Second time through Mick might play the B minor up at 7.. listen to the live movie version. Just fun to mix it up. He would grab a fill sometimes. Played this last night at a show and spent some time nailing the timing of "and the spiders from Mars" lyric while playing that line . It's out of synch and you just have to muscle memory it! Great lesson Carl. I forgot to turn off my "cocked wah" and was half way through the next song wondering why my tone sucked!!

Is it just the tone that’s producing the higher line on the riff? Sounds an octave higher on the record but in videos Ronson plays it just like you
@ferpiopiogm2 жыл бұрын
Guys! Got a question here. Do you hear a dissonance in the first C chord it's played at the begining of the song? It's really annoying me. Cause i hear it and it's not caused by the distortion. Perhaps the guitar it's not perfectly tuned. Although I reckon there's some note no one teach in youtube videos. And I wonder if someone can solve the mistery. Cause personally I think that sound is where the magic of the riff lays.

The song dates from mid 1972. Glad you have the correct Dm at the 5th. I saw Ronson play it there, although the open D is a reasonable alternative ;) That C walkdown was kinda used in Boston's More than a Feeling ('76) and Status Quo's Whatever You Want ('79). It seems like there is a Cranberries Zombie inspiring playing there too. One notices there's a bit of Stairway ('71) in there too. Thanks Carl.

Thanks for the lesson. There's a lot of good ideas in here I'm going to use to improve my playing here. I think you missed a chord on the verse though. These a quick B major (I think) in the first half of the verse on the "spiders from Mars" bit where on beat 3.5 he hits B for two 8th notes, then hits C on beat 4.5 in passing before landing on the D for the next measure. It goes like ...Bm || C C | C C | r B | B C || D ... on the 8th notes (r is an 8th rest) I think. At least, that's how I've been playing that part.

Hi Carl I was fortunate enough to see Mick Ronson do that song live a few times back in the 70s and of course covered that song myself in bands out through my lifetime saying that I would like to say that you did a outstanding job on that lesson you could not ask for more you give a great guitar lesson thanks for all you do🎸🎼😊
@stratdoc4 жыл бұрын
Paul baluch.Mick never played the same way in the few recordings I have seen. He was a "feel" type player. It so amazing that David fired the"spiders" after the sacrifice they made too get him over the top! The influence of his NY management no doubt. Maybe Nick took a little bit of spot light..? Either way you saw him without Bowie?
@paulbaluch4394 жыл бұрын
I seen Mick play with Bowie back in 1973 and I agree he would play different each time you would see him somewhat. the biggest example I would give would be the way he did moonage daydream yes I agree that Bowie fired the guys it was unbelievable not really cool in my opinion the Ziggy album was the best and Aladdin sane was pretty cool after that I didn't really follow him that much Bowie definitely was for Bowie
