Zikz is great, only having saddle high hurts it though. I've seen players bottom out trailers (especially the 8-slot) and get stuck. I say the KOLOB's due to active suspension are still the best choice for the absolutely massive trailers. With the 8-slot it honestly seems like ground clearance it more important then power. It doesn't matter at all how powerful a truck is, if you bottom out a 8-slot, you ain't moving.

I believe the reason for the traction bonus you mentioned is due to the fact that the game doesn’t only use grip values found on maprunner when calculating grip: tire width is also a factor. I watched Firefly’s tire video and he mentioned that the Zikz 605Rs tires are wider than they appear (with video evidence of the tires catching on poles despite not touching them).
@NProvince
@NProvince 2 жыл бұрын
I saw that, but I also have seen bumpers catch on other vehicles hit boxes when there shouldn’t have been any collision. Yea the width of its track is indeed larger which allows to to benefit more from Grip provided through weight. I’ve gotten confirmation from Focus Home and Saber that weight is a large factor in grip as shown in my mud running tips video. To be honest the zikz is in a league of its own lol

The fact that the Zikz tires are only a 3.0 is a real shock to me. I would have guessed a 3.5 minimum, I suppose it could just the heavy weight and always on AWD and Diff lock but still. I'm 100% with you on this one, I just broke 1100 hours in snowrunner and idk they just don't feel like 3.0 mud tires. At this point time starting to sound like a broken record here but your videos are always top notch and imho the best snowrunner truck reviews on KZbin.
@NProvince

I dont have that many hours on the game so I'm really relieved that you agree with me on that. I feel like they are a 3.5 at least minimum rating as well. Seriously, Thank you Vincent! Its been a blast to do this and reading comments like this are really encouraging. As always brother, thank you for the support!

I think the reason is due to the the width, the tyres are wider than what the game renders them to be. And I think both contact coefficient and tyre width will collectively decide terrain grip

Unlocked this a few days ago. Knowing how good its supposed to be, tried to stress test it from the get go. Towing a trailer and a scout. Then towing two trailers. All while taking shortcuts that are probably not meant to be taken. I’ve found that aside from lack of chained tires, the only downside is it makes the rest of my fleet feel like highway trucks :D

@justinlynch3
@justinlynch3 3 жыл бұрын
Fyi Step-Deck semi trailer is the best. You said the sideboard is the best because if it rolls you may be able to catch the cargo. Well something better then that is having a trailer that simply straight up doesn't roll at all. Yes the sideboard trailer can maybe catch loose cargo, but the sideboard trailer also rolls over super easily. The sideboard trailer will try to roll over before most trucks are even ready to go, the sideboard will try to go first and it'll try to take you with it. The sideboard is only good with the likes of a White Western, Tayga, or Voron AE. Trucks with so much stability they can actively fight against the sideboard trying to roll on them. The Step-Deck on the other hand, that has SAVED trucks for me. I remember doing a mission in Wisconsin with the Bandit and the Step-Deck made it so the Bandit would not roll over, and anyone who's ever driven a Bandit would know how tippy that truck it. Had I been in the Bandit by itself, 100% Bandit would of rolled. Had I had a Sideboard, 100% would of rolled. But because I had a Step-Deck connected to my truck, when the Bandit tried to roll over the Step-Deck was just like "yea, how about no." Step-Deck has saved me so many times where other trailers like the sideboard would of either not helped at all, or started rolling first and try to take me with it. I remember a mission in Phase 4 we had to right a rolled over sideboard and pick up the cargo, actually Phase 4 had 2 or 3 of those missions, and I had the same truck, the Bandit. What a awful experience, roll over after roll over after roll over. The bloody sideboard did literally nothing to help keep the truck stable. I was like "Why can't Sabre ever put a Step-Deck in these missions, at least that doesn't try to roll over every 5 feet." Thankfully I keep a Tatarin on hand so I could recover the Bandit any time it rolled. But still, it was all the proof I needed. Step-Deck - Actually tries to keep you level and stops you from rolling over. Sideboard - Always trying to roll over at every opportunity with the intent of taking you with it. I rather stick to a trailer I know I can trust. Step-Deck is easily the best trailer in the game.
@vladvulcan
@vladvulcan 2 жыл бұрын
Well, it's so long and yet 5 slots of cargo, while it can easily carry 6 or even 7. Yeah, it adds stability, but it catches on everything and turning with it is a nightmare.

Maybe I will sound weird but the ZikZ is neither my King nor my fav. I remember playing hard in Amur just after finishing the base game. Why Amur, because like many, I wanted so hard to have the Zikz in my garage. And then came the day I saw the thing just in front of my truck. First thing I did, I stopped all other activities and brought back the beast into my garage. Then I wanted to upgrade. First choice, loading crane. What? No loading crane. Ok, not a big deal, like my beloved Derryl Longhorn or the mighty Tayga, I will put a low saddle on it and pull cargo (like you I mostly use low saddle attachment). What again? No low saddle. Was somehow a little disappointed. Yes the thing is good, I like its look and sound, it's powerful, it has an insane grip and can cross almost any terrain. But for my playstyle, what can I do with it? So, the result for me, the Zikz spends most of my playtime taking fresh air in the parking outside the garage, waiting for an emergency situation. Some sort of reinforcement truck but never my first choice for a job truck, because I have most of the time another one ready to jump on the task (looking at you my beloved Derryl Longhorn ). TL;DR : most of the time I don't know what to do with the Zikz. Yes I know it may be sad but, that's the way it is.
@NProvince
@NProvince Жыл бұрын
Understandable, so the thing we need to understand about heavy truck class is that they aren’t meant to have things like low saddle and small cranes. The zikz doesn’t have those because it would essentially replace most vehicles ya know? Low saddles are more or less for vehicles with a lower ground clearance. Now yes some heavy class trucks have them, but if the zikz did you’d see most people using it non stop. To be quite honest on most streams I come upon people are using the zikz for most things already, but I do understand what you mean

Another small con would actually be that somewhat archaic rear suspension construction, which you mentioned has its upsides. It doesn't make rear wheels fully independent, but 2 rear wheels on each side are actually pushing each other and the frame up through a hard lever. On the whole this solution is too stiff and inferior to both Kolobs' independent+spring rear suspension (especially considering they have raised). So overall Kolobs with the lowboy trailer are superior from the suspension traverse and geometry perspective. It is true though that ZiKS/Maz has somewhat better tires and utility advantage. I do pull out Kolobs more often though and prefer both to this one :)

Also I would question MapRunner. I drive the Tatarin all the time, Tatarin and F-750 are two of my main scouts. The Tatarin does have very good special tires, but I don't believe for a second they are coded with a 8.0 rating. Like you said the Zikz 605R feels like a Tatarin in truck form and I'm willing to ber that's mostly on the tires/axle setup. I think the Tatarin tires are more around a 3.0 like the Zikz 605R is. There is no way that 8.0 rating for the Tatarin is actually correct, especially since it can get stuck. It's not easy to get stuck, but it is possible to get a Tatarin stuck in mud. Trust me as someone who uses it all the time, I know.
@boyjorge
@boyjorge 3 жыл бұрын
It really has 8.0 in its in-game xml file, if you are talking about deep mudpit. I believe that(deep mud pit) ignores tire traction by a lot or That deep mud pit affects the vehicles' height as to why tatarin is slowed

Personally I think this needs a mention as it is an issue (for me at least) (Possible) Con #8: the suspension is SUPER stiff. Whenever you hit small rocks or even wood in the road, the truck loses all balance due to how stiff the suspension is.
@NProvince
@NProvince 3 жыл бұрын
It is kinda stiff I agree. I haven't used it that much on paved roads especially in Phase 4. The Walking beam seems decent tho in the rear axles. It could just be the stiff front suspension then.

☝️ Playing the game chronologically here. ☺️ After 100%’ing everything up until and including Wisconsin I was not looking forward to Amur much due to all the difficulty horror stories. About a week ago I started on Urska River and indeed the start of the map was kinda rough. I did not rush to get the 605R ASAP though, I was focusing on scouting and repairing most bridges on Urska. After that I opened the Cosmodrome tunnel and kinda stumbled upon the garage (not looking at any walkthroughs or spoilers, I was expecting Imandra-style garage opening shenanigans again 😅). First scouted all watchtowers (partially with the Tatarin but big shout out to the Tatra T813 which I very efficiently used for scouting as well). It was the T813 (with empty sideboard bed leftover from Urska missions) that first got to the ZiKZ 605R but unfortunately I could not completely repair and refuel it. So I got the Tatarin there as well who gave the 605R whatever it was still lacking. And finally the 605R is mine! I already brought it back to Urska to craft some metal beams since I need those for bridge repairs in Cosmodrome. I’m using the 605R in a 2+4=6 cargo configuration since those metal beams are 2 slots long. I was also glad to see that none of its upgrades were locked (when you play the game in order). I did get a few upgrades on Urska as well, so I don’t remember if any of them were for the 605R. But great truck indeed and this brings back the nostalgia of that big beast with thick black smoke from MudRunner. From an audiovisual perspective, it felt more powerful in MudRunner though, I think they nerfed the engine startup sound and smoke a bit. 😅

Hey there guy I ran across this and watched it for a bit. Question, Out of curiosity Do you mostly Utilize the Reg Tranny or Do you use the Off-road? Or the Advanced off-road if option is available. I’m curious through all the time on this game I personally stuck to Off-road with the 4 gears. I wanted power out of the hole, especially off-road, enough so the Top Speed on The limited paved roads will suffer. But worth it to me dealing with so much off-road Driving , hauling, delivery. Ect.

Id said if you use Low gears alot, then yes the advanced special or the Offroad Gearbox is gonna be your friend. I actually made a gear box video on this. Oddly enough the offroad doesnt seem to be that much slower than a balanced gearbox despite having 1 less gear. However the advanced special is a faster gear box than the special gearbox. The advantage of the 3 Low gears is really good for trucks with swithcable DIFF Low because you can go a lil faster pending terrain
