Do u have to eat like this forever if u have autoimmune disease I just don’t want to stop meat
@stevenk692220 сағат бұрын
Well done for reversing your UC. I tried Dr Goldener's Smoothie protocol 6 months back but only stuck with it for 2 weeks before going back to vegetarian with dairy. I have UC myself and after 5 months of being relatively symptom free, I'm experiencing another flare. I'm going to try Dr Goldener's raw vegan protocol for 4 to 6 weeks then add in some cooked vegan foods and see how I go. Thanks again for your advice and recipes 😊
@showmemovegan13 сағат бұрын
Thanks! Yes, Dr. G says she has lots of success with UC. And I especially think keeping the dairy out would help. I eliminated dairy before I went vegan, and that drastically reduced my symptoms, before going fully plant-based cleared it up the rest of the way. UC can be tricky and some people might do better with some cooked plant foods, so I think you have a solid plan. Good luck!

Thanks Wendy, this is a really inspirational video 😊 I also have ulcerative colitis and felt much better eating more plants and I very rarely have ultrprocessed foods now. But I wanted to ask you how long it took you to heal your colitis after going on a WFPB diet? And whether your diet has completely eliminated your symptoms? Thanks so much. And I'm sorry to hear you lost your friend too. ♥
@showmemovegan20 сағат бұрын
Thanks for your comments! I'll start by saying I was very lucky that I figured out what was going on pretty quickly and only had mild UC, so depending on the severity and how long someone has suffered with it, the results could be very different from my experience. Also, it's hard for me to give you an exact amount of time and it depends on what you consider "healed." I never did a repeat colonoscopy, so in that sense I can't say definitively that my colon healed. And I only did lab for inflammatory markers annually, so it wasn't until I did that the next year after switching my diet that I saw those markers had normalized. But as far as symptoms, *warning for anyone who doesn't want to read graphic content to stop here* my main symptom was blood and mucus in the stool and that was gone within the first couple weeks of switching my diet and has never returned. I also had fatigue/brain fog which was gone just as quickly. Besides that, everything is much more "regular" than it used to be. Occassionally I still have some irregularity, but I no longer consider it to be related to UC, it's just more "normal" irregularity based on exactly what I've been eating recently. Best of luck to you in healing!

@@showmemovegan Thank you so much for sharing more detail. At the beginning, my symptoms where the same and they were most severe while I was eating ultraprocessed foods. I've cut out ultraprocessed foods and meat a about 2 years ago and I now mainly eat a whole foods veggie diet with dairy. I do feel much better. I will transition to a vegan diet again over the next week. Thanks again Wendy and take care 😊

Great idea to use soaked walnuts! You could always soak the dates as well. If you’re really loving it a jar of the spice blend would be handy to keep in the pantry. ❤

Yes, great tips! I like to discard the soaking liquid for the nuts but not the dates, so that's why I don't soak them together. And I love your idea of keeping the spice blend on hand...that gives me the idea that you could even package the ingredients up as a holiday gift idea!

@showmemovegan4 күн бұрын
I've only done it with dates, but I'm sure maple syrup would be good too! I'm not sure how much to use, but you probably wouldn't need a lot, so I'd recommend adding just a little, taste it and adjust.

So no more animal products you can eat ??
@showmemovegan4 күн бұрын
It depends on what protocol you'd like to follow. The hypernourishment protocol focuses on adding vegetables, water, and chia or flax to any dietary pattern, so technically you could still include animal products, though Dr. Goldner recommends avoiding all animal products if you are trying to heal. Her Goodbye Lupus Protocol and Goodbye Autoimmune Protocol are fully raw and do not include any animal products.

Family members think that eating veggies will not be beneficial at all for ones health. How can you debate someone that doesn't even use logic or arguments but is just irrational and emotional?
@showmemovegan5 күн бұрын
I recommend not trying to debate with them. Dr. Lisle has a great talk called "Getting Along Without Going Along" that has some great strategies: esteemdynamics.com/2020/04/24/getting-along-without-going-along-v1/. If someone is genuinely curious or concerned, you can try to explain what you're doing and why, but most people will become defensive and don't really want to discuss it rationally.
@floraly885 күн бұрын
@showmemovegan Thanks, I will look into that. I would never argue with someone that says "I don't like to eat veggies" because that's a valid opinion. But saying "eating veggies will not be beneficial to health" was just a trigger, because it's not an opinion but just plain out wrong.
@showmemovegan5 күн бұрын

@showmemovegan8 күн бұрын
On my channel I try to share mostly SOS-free recipes (no added salt, oil, or sugar). But feel free to add salt to taste if you are used to eating it. I have many family members who must eat a low sodium diet for health reasons, and so I don't add it in my cooking. Though I do use some condiments and canned products that have some added sodium.

Another informational and inspiring video! I also use Cronometer. A couple of times a year I’ll track for up to a month at a time. It’s time-consuming, for sure, but a great tool to understand what your diet REALLY looks like, not what you think it looks like. Even for someone who is very aware of portion sizes, sodium, calories, fat content, etc. it can be eye opening to identify patterns and actually see the gaps or surpluses in even a healthy diet.

Before I had major surgery recently, the pre-op nurse heard I was whole food plant based. Of course her first response was "where do you get your protein"?. I asked her where she gets her fiber. I do use a chronometer to make sure I'm getting my nutrition. I like adding a whole, peeled lemon to my smoothies and it's very good.
@showmemovegan11 күн бұрын
Haha! Yes, I love your fiber comment! And I've heard that about the lemon but I've never tried it yet.
@aboutsupplies11 күн бұрын
A chronometer is only a feel good crux ... it doesn't tell how much nutrients are absorbed for use. Plants have nutrients less bioavailable compared to whole animal products. Secondly, if you are low fat your essential fat-soluble vitamins are inhibited. And no , eating high fat plant foods like nuts don't help much due to polyphenols obstructing the absorption of the essential fat-soluble vitamins.
