People that lean back like that think they're cool, but in actuality they just look like a douche and putting others in danger. They should be ticketed for driving like that.

These videos are great! To promote this flatter posture, would it help to have an office chair with a flatter backrest at the top ? So the shoulder blades are supported. I have been wondering why chairs considered ergonomic leave this gap to shoulder blades

Hi, thanks for your insight as a medical professional! I just want to share my experience as a gamer who uses this mouse for both work and gaming-occasionally for 12-14 hours a day, 5-6 days a week. It’s the only mouse I can comfortably use for low-stress but high-time-intensive PC work. I even play World of Warcraft and other more chill games like TFT with it and never feel at a disadvantage. My grip is the three-finger bent-in style that the company advised you to try. I think it comes naturally when you use the mouse over a long time. It helps me transfer stress from my hand and wrist onto the table. This is the first product I genuinely love with all my heart and truly fanboy over because no other company offers anything similar. It completely changed the way I could work and enjoy working, whereas normal mice-whether standard, vertical, trackball, or any other type-never worked for me since I have wrist issues. If you're struggling with similar issues, I highly recommend giving this mouse a try. It's quite expensive, unfortunately, but they do offer some more affordable models, and you might even find one used.

I have been using a kneeling chair on wheels for the past 2.5 years and I love it to bits. 1. It's the easiest chair to get in and out of, because you just need to swing one leg to the side and stand up. So there is little or no impediment to standing up, unlike a normal office chair. Or sometimes I push my wheeled kneeling chair backwards with one (or both) feet on the floor and immediately I'll be in standing position. 2. Since it is easy to stand up from sitting position, there is one less psychological obstacle to moving about. 3. The kneeling chair supports different sitting position - one leg out; one foot on the shin pads; two feet on the shin pads, two legs on the floor, etc. So if you get bored of a certain position, just to change it up. Sometimes I even change my position subconsciously, cos it's way easy to do so. Unlike the conventional office chair, you're not restricted to a single sitting position. 4. Remember when we were kids in school, many of us love to hike up our chairs so that we rock back and forth on the front two legs of our chairs because it feels natural to do so? That's exactly the sitting position of a kneeling chair!! And safer, of course! 5. Yes, the chair will natural lead you to engage your core muscles, but you can slouch too if you want. There's no back rest restricting your movement. There is no strain on my buttocks or knees at all. I'm not sitting on my tailbone either. In fact, when I had to change back to an office chair for a period, I felt so uncomfortable in it and opted for a padded stool instead. The kneeling chair is definitely better than any ergonomic office chair out there, and much cheaper too! The sitting position definitely takes some getting used to, but the transition period is really short. Remember, the key is NOT your sitting position, but the fact that the chair lets you move about freely even when you're seated. Mobility is everything. TRY IT!

one thing i don't understand is why don't desk tops have a 'notch' in them cut out for where you torso/stomach are so that your elbows could rest lightly on the desk (when adjust to the correct height so your shoulders are not pushed upwards.) otherwise in the closest position you can get with a normal desk top, you MUST push your arms slightly forward to rest most of your forearm on the desk.
@LEETGAMER2 күн бұрын
but what about having your wrists on the edge of the desk seems like it causes problems also the more i look into ergonomics it seems like there is no healthy position

I must be the only one listening, that after an almost 7 min. video, still don't understand what you said or what point you were trying to make. I have listened to a number of your videos specifically related to car seats. I could have sworn that some of those you indicated there may be a need for angled cushion on seat. did I misunderstand? can you show me specific videos that relate to car seat wedge cushions (or is wedge cushion same thang as angled cushions????)?

Hi Olivier, thank you so much for doing these videos! Very much appreciated to find honest ergonomic advice! I am a pathologist and spend a lot of time using the microscope. Our Occupational Health desk assessments usually address posture while using a computer, but not the microscope. A large proportion of pathologists will experience some form musculoskeletal pain in their lifetime (50-80% of questionnaire respondents in most studies!). Would you consider doing a video on proper ergonomic set-up for microscope users? I am happy to provide more detail if helpful! Thanks again!

So if I have mild loss of cervical lordosis, you're saying it can reverse or be fixed by fixing my posture, more so than doing the exercises? Note to add: I haven't had any "trauma" to cause this as far as I can remember...most likely due to poor/forward head posture..?

What if I have: 1. Good typing technique (using all 10 fingers), 2. A small keyboard (without a number pad), 3. A Logitech MX Ergo Trackball Mouse... As you can see, I don't do a lot of arm movement. Can I rely on the armrest, maybe not to completely rest my arm on it but to slide over it while it gently supports my arm?

I'm glad I've found this video, I've worked and gamed at my PC for years and although I have really decent equipment I always struggle with a bad back. The tip about the back support being at the belt line is the magic advice I needed, I've had it too high for a long time and it ever so slightly pushes me forward which is obviously putting strain on my back over time, it also affect my aim in game and gives me a sore wrist after working for a long day because I'm kind of pushing my hands into the mouse mat. I watched this video and your last one about a week ago and it's really worked wonders for me. I do have that exact footrest that you pointed out as bad though 🤣🤣

@@OlivierGirard thanks. I saw it yesterday when searching in your channel. Really useful, but funny is my conclusion seemlike it's best to use only 1 monitor, any more than 1 monitor setup is hardly to provide the ergonomics fully as single one.

Hi Oliver, I’ve just purchased the Embody gaming version of this chair. I had an l4/l5 discectomy two weeks ago. Is this a chair I can trust to guide me to fix my terrible posture and lead me to a healthier lifestyle?
@OlivierGirard6 күн бұрын
Hey mate... the chair is a good chair. My issue is more price / quality ratio... but anyway, I'd love to answer positively to your question... however, a chair is just a chair and it's job is just to support your pelvis. "Punkt schluss", in German 😅 In other words, once on a good chair, your posture is at least 50% behavioural and your lifestyle at least 90%... your chair is just a small part of the equation 😀

Thanks Olivier, I have been watching your videos and they are always so clear and helpful, a truly great resource. I do have a question about the seat pan adjustment though! You say not to go further forward if you can feel less pressure... But if I have it with the pressure I find it digs into my back and causes it to become sore or have a burning sensation. Is there such a thing as needing to move it forward to relieve pressure?
@OlivierGirard12 күн бұрын
Yep, precisely :) When the backrest is too aggressive (rare but that happens), shifting the seat pan forward can be tested :)!!
@ChrisG15213 күн бұрын
Something i cant answer after watching all your videos is this: if you dont want to touch the shoulders on the back of the chair,which i agree, wouldnt it make sense for ergonomic chairs to make a curve forward on the upper part to hug and/or match your upper back? Im asking this because i always feel easier to keep a posture if something is touching that part of the body and prevents me from balancing the posture in the air,which is why sometimes it feels natural to touch the back of the chair with shoulders simply because thats where the body meets the obstacle and finds the pressure to stop.
@OlivierGirard13 күн бұрын
What you say makes sense... but it's a double-edged sword: - the backrest coming close to your shoulder blades will prevent you from shifting them backwards - but it will also increase the temptation to lean on it (e.g. transfer your weight at shoulder blades level), which will make your pelvis slide forward on the seat pan. It may also prevent the mobility that you may want to have from time to time to relax or do XYZ on your side. That's why there's ergonomics on the one hand and personal preferences on the other. Those of us who sit fine won't mind a backrest away from the shoulder blades. Those of us who tend to lean back would be better inspired to choose a backrest that comes closer to their shoulder blades. The choice of having a backrest close to the shoulder blades is something that has been made in car, but that's for safety reasons (prevent extension of the spine in case of an accident). Does that make sense?

Hello Olivier, Unrelated question but I'd love to get your thoughts on the Anthros chair. I’m really suffering from ulnar pain, work from home in software. I’m very tall 6’5 and with my stand desk as low as it goes and the chair I have as high as it goes my elbow and arm form less than a 90° angle probably more like 45° and my wrist is always compressed. I either need a desk that goes lower or chair that goes higher I think? I don’t have a ton of money to spend, any help you may offer? Thank you for your video.

@OlivierGirard11 күн бұрын
