I live in a 2 story condo. I have central air. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs. They all are very warm in the summer, and never cool properly. 2 rooms face the outside back wall where the AC unit is. The 3rd room is on the front wall. AC units are not permitted out front. Would a mini split be a good idea here?

I have been having a nightmare with mr.cool 3 ton unit it’s about 4yrs old and the Evaporator coil is leaking real bad and the HVAC company that installed the unit said it needed a new one and they are having to deal Directly with Mr.Cool because the Distributor he gets is units from stopped carrying Mr.Cool so they called Mr.Cool to get a confirmation to replace the evaporator coil and it took over a week for Mr. cool to get back with them to approve the replacement of the evaporator coil and then Mr. Cool told them that I would have to pay a $268 shipping charge and that it would have to be shipped by rail to say that this pissed me off is an understatement my HVAC said he would pay the shipping bill himself and eat the $268 so they sent Mr.Cool the $268 shipping charge and 4 days later Mr.Cool finally called them back and said they received the money for shipping he asked them when the evaporator coil with ship and they said they could not give him a date when it would ship this has been going on the third week trying to deal with this companyAnd they still have not contacted us and we still have not received the evaporator coil I live in North Alabama and it’s been 95° every day Mr.Cool has horrible customer service and is a horrible company with a horrible Warranty that will not pay for labor or Freon and will expect you to pay any shipping cost I would stay as far away from this company as I can it has been three weeks and I’m still sitting here in the hot thanks to Mr.Cool !

I called Mr Cool's sales number on Tuesday morning, the 2nd of July 2024. I wanted to find out about the heat pump rebates that are available for qualifying equipment. I wanted to know which DIY models were eligible for the rebates. There is zero information on their website. I stayed on the phone for 30 minutes, and every few minutes, I was prompted to press * to get a call back when the next sales person was available. I finally decided to try that. It is now Friday afternoon. I have not heard back from them. Imagine how much fun it would be to get service, if they can't even get back to a sales lead after 4 days! I won't be buying a Mr Cool unit.

Crazy timing! I just installed a Cielo Eco for a customer who bought it off amazon and I helped them set it up; it works really well! Customer loved it, it worked reliably, had a nice interface on their phone, and was cheaper than Kumo Cloud. Cielo Eco is cheaper than the Max, but it doesn't have screen. Customer just wanted to use it on their phone since it was a lakehouse they rent out so they have control over their minisplit when customers leave. Great product!

to note - warranty from Mr. Cool: warranty form dated 6/27/2022, standard 5 years parts, and 7 year compressor warranty (reading the fine print - warranty starts 120 days after the manufacture date of the particular unit). you can enroll in a limited lifetime warranty for the compressor by agreeing to the " MrCool Care" program -a bi-annual charge, providing you with a cleaning kit to clean the condensing coils. let's be real, of course you get what you pay for, and for a decent quality unit, it come down to the initial installation and maintenance-up keep on the units. i'm quite sure you'll have to replace the odd part (noisy motor) on a Mr. cool unit a few times before a properly installed and upkept Mitsubishi unit has any issue... cost + capability of installing your own equipment VS. paying the going rate for the top quality unit, installed by a pro, considering longevity... if you get 10 years out of a Mr. cool unit, for about a 1/4 of the cost plus your time to install, worth it to some? i do not own a Mr.cool, or any heatpump-split unit yet, but i'm considering options currently, and am the handyman type capable of the install. (i'm actually looking at Senville and other cheaper units that seem to have good reviews)
@gotductlessusa
@gotductlessusa 4 күн бұрын
Exactly! Good summary of points that every purchaser needs to consider. Btw Senville is probably made in the same Chinese factory as Mr. Cool. It's just different private labeling. The customer service is what makes or breaks the brand. We have had a good experience with Mr. Cool because we have one of their reps on speed dial who can make quick decisions. If you don't have that, I'm sure it would be difficult to work with them. Same applies with Senville and others.

Great video and honest review. I like your quote "you get what you pay for" . We installed the 12k Mr. COOL unit and have had several issues. They definitely do not stand behind their product and Customer service is non-existent. We are having the current unit ripped out and replaced with Mitsubishi from local HVAC company. Mr. Cool buyers beware. Buying their product is like rolling the dice. Maybe we just got a lemon.

Good points. Mitsubishi can also have issues if its not maintained or installed properly. A big thing that separates the two brands is Mitsubishi streamlines their customer service so there are plenty of decision makers in the supply chain to get things resolved quickly. You can lack this customer service if you buy Mr. Cool from a big box store and your only access to their customer service is through their main line. We have not heard good feedback from people calling in (as yourselves). We have had a great experience because we work with 1 rep who can make problems go away quickly. Thanks for the feedback!

Does a mini split move more air then a comparable window unit. If i got a 48k btu mini split vs 2 24k btu window units are they comparable cooling power?
@gotductlessusa
@gotductlessusa 8 күн бұрын
The data point to measure airflow is called CFMs (cubic feet per minute). On average, window units and mini splits have around the same CFMs, meaning they can move air around pretty similarly. The real plus of ductless is that they are much more efficient and quieter.

Have a question - I need to install 12 k unit in one bed room inside the rooms, so I cannot run line set outside directly but rather through attic to condenser, which means line set will go vertically up from air handler unit to the attic . Is that ok.
@gotductlessusa
@gotductlessusa 28 күн бұрын
Yes, the line-set can go vertically as long as you have a plan for the condensate line. That either needs to be go directly outside or you need to install a pump to push water to wherever you can drain the water.
@davelimbaugh3730
@davelimbaugh3730 Ай бұрын
I'd be interested in your thoughts about running condensate lines in climates where freezing occurs. For example, running a 1 inch pvc drain line through an attic to an exterior wall - could it freeze? I've also heard of lines running not vertically on an exterior wall freezing.
@gotductlessusa
@gotductlessusa 28 күн бұрын
The units only condensate when in air conditioning mode. If you are using air conditioning in the freezing winter time then this can be an issue. Then it is best to insulate the drain line to prevent freezing. If you plan on only heating during the winter months, this condition shouldn't worry you.

Also worth noting is that the display on LG can be turned off. LG also has self cleaning, which dries the indoor coil prior to the louvers closing. LG is cheaper than most Japanese brands but offer the same warranty and good quality. On some Mitsubishi models, the outdoor fan will continue to run when the power is turned off, so it can cool the electronic board. Mitsubishi hyper heat has a lockout and will shut off to prevent compressor damage when its gets extremely cold. LG does not have a lockout and will continue to run.

What is the documented reliability of the various products, and the documented support by the company? Anything else is just pure speculation and supposition. The Internet is replete with articles about how great Mr. Cool is. However, what is their real world reliability and how long do the products actually last?
@gotductlessusa
@gotductlessusa Ай бұрын
You would have to read customer reviews in order to get any sense of documented reliability. Gauging support will always be subjective because expectations of service range. We share in this video the experience our customers have had with Mr. Cool. We don't sell products that have mediocre support because then we have to deal with the issues rather than the manufacturer. We are not making blanket statements but instead sharing our opinion on whether it's a good brand or not based on certain categories that we deem important. We think if you are just looking at reliability as a factor then there are better options out there (Mitsubishi): but that doesn't make Mr. Cool a bad brand. Values range so therefore the answer to this question does as well.
@cyberreefguru
@cyberreefguru Ай бұрын
@@gotductlessusa So I totally get all that, but your video only covers subjective and qualitative measures - I'd like to see something more quantitative or concrete. Customer reviews are notoriously unreliable -- the 1% that are happy and the 1% that are not are the only ones that provide comments. Clearly "good" or "bad" is subjective, but I'm looking to make a buy decision, I need something more than an overview. Do Mr. Cool products last as long as the competition? Does the OEM have a good track record for warranty support? The internet is full of questionable information in that regard - I simply cannot find any credible information that says they are "as reliable" and "as supported" as competitors. As a professional with intimate knowledge of the product and experience with break/fix issues, I feel like you could have been more specific about your direct, real-world experience. Just a suggestion for the next video.
