I'm now in week 5 and cleared to do WBAT with a boot. Non-operative route with a full rupture. I was hesitant to ditch the crutches the first few hours. Eventually had the courage to do it after taking a nap. It will come naturally for everyone. Very painful the first couple days, but I don't think it's surprising since I didn't do any weight bearing for 4 weeks. With breaks, I'm now able to walk all over the place. Feeling confident and excited to progress in PT.

The iwalk helped me for a critical week i needed to stay off my foot. But, it also put more stress on my good foot and i needed to stop using it before i had two bad feet. Balancing and lateral movements require more from the good foot.

Hi SJ... I ruptured my achilles 7 Sep 2024...my wife drove me to hospital and the physio/nurse (can't really remember her title) put me in moon boot and no cast...she did the Thompson test and was confirmed by Dr that it was a full tear...she told me to walk up and down corridor with the crutches and put some weight on the injured.. Didnt feel any pain and continued to do so on my second day.. Still no pain..is this usual?..Just waiting on hospital to book me in with an orthopedic surgeon...

Hey SJ I’m almost 8 weeks into my recovery and I’m a bit scared/ nervous that my tendon is elongated, is there anything you think I could do to improve the likelihood that the tendon can be tighter. Example- If I was to flex my foot In a more downwards position so it could heal closer together? Thanks Mate these videos have been great for reassurance

Thanks SJ. I am just past 1 week since the injury. I found your videos today and feel very fortunate to have found this early in my injury. I am in UK and on NHS protocol. None surgical route advised. Was in a moon boot for 3d after injury whilst waiting for assessment appointment with specialist. Now in a cast until a week or so when will be fitted for the boot with wedges. Watched your 1yr and 3yr anniversary videos as the light at the end of the tunnel. Looking forward to being mobile again and getting back to weightlifting as that kept me in some sort of shape at least. Played football/soccer after 8 years of not playing as last time picked up a bad leg injury also which resulted in knee brace for weeks and months of recovery! I never seem to learn. Thanks for your videos (I was particularly attracted to them as I lived in Aus for 4 years so your accent spoke to me!!).

I still can't do one at the 7 month mark. My doc told me to not even attempt to do it until the 6 month mark but I am concerned. It's still so weak.

It’s been 6 wks since my rupture. Swelling process has past and pain isn’t as crazy as it was the first 3 wks. It’s a 1.2 cm tear. I see a doctor next wk finally and would like to go towards surgery route for sure. If surgery will be roughly 2 months after the rupture, is it worth saving if I do surgery still?
@Always_Never
@Always_Never 2 ай бұрын
I'm no doctor. But 6 weeks since your rupture (as long as you've been held in the right foot position and immobilized) wouldn't it be wise to go the non op route? As you would only be like a week out from transitioning to shoes? Where as, if you go with surgery now...your whole recovery period starts all over again. I'm only 2 weeks into my Achilles rupture, and my doctor convinced me that non op will be fine, since I was splinted already and saw him asap. And if I was to do surgery, he's nearly 3 weeks booked ahead...so I would start my recovery all over again.

@@thehealthyhooddude it happened in February of this year. Around the second month. I was depressed thought I wasn’t ever going to walk right again. I started just walking around with just the boot and no crutches. Whenever I took my boot off at night i started noticing I could put a lil weight on my foot. So every week after I just started walking around the house without my boot. Whenever I left the house I wore my boot cause I would be walking more. Just keep your foot elevated at night and try an anti inflammatory. I still drink cayenne,ginger and turmeric shot. It helped also. Anyone had this experience. I was casted and flexed down for 3 weeks for a full rupture after a game of tennis. Went to my appointment the doctor said I was healing extremely well. He put me in a boot but angled at 90 degrees with only one wedge. I was told not to put weight on it. I followed the directions for 12 additional days, but honeslty, after researching and doing watching some videos including this, the benefits of early weight bearing seem better. I started bearing a little weight on my left with both crutches and I'm not going back between two/one crutch hoping to be walking in week. There is some minor pain/swelling but nothing alarming. I'm just worried about him not providing me with wedges, although my foot was immobilized for almost 5 weeks. Anyone have a similar story.
