And right back to Ansel Adams and his Zone System. Thank you - great tutorial. I don't use "grey cards". Lucky me - my dog's coat is an average grey - he is always on my side outdoors - focus on my dog and voila - exposure is smack on. Almost every time - there are always exceptions to the rule.

I am trying to get into making KZbin videos. Would I use these cables, etc., for connecting my camera to a laptop? My camera doesn't have a swivel screen (Panasonic Lumix LX100-Mk2) so I would like to view what I am doing on the laptop, which is a new Windows Acer Aspire 3. The camera does have a small HDMI port, and my laptop has a large HDMI port.

Yes, you could use the video capture card and an HDMI cable to go from the camera to the video capture card. Then connect the capture card to a USB port on your laptop. Forget the HDMI port on your laptop, that's for outputting a video signal from your laptop to an external monitor, TV, or projector. Good luck.

Thank you. Make sure you connect the Yeti to your phone using a USB cable, then have your headphones plugged in to the Yeti's headphone socket. You should then be able to monitor your audio, but if it does not work, it could be because the microphone firmware have been updated (deliberately or accidentally). But if you're looking for another microphone, one that I like is the Maono PD400X. Unlike the Yeti, it is a dynamic mic but has the advantage of having dual outputs (both XLR and USB). Plug your headphones into the headphone socket on the mic and then connect the PD400X to your phone using the USB-C cable that comes with the microphone. I hope that works for you.

First, I would connect the Yeti directly to your computer. As far as which mic is better for spoken word recordings depends on a number of factors. These can include which one best complements your voice and the environment you will be recording in. If you're in an acoustically treated and sound proof room or voice both you might find that the Yeti will do a better job (it can be very sensitive and will pick up background noise and a lively room tone), but if you're in an untreated room the SM58 maybe a better bet. Since you have both mics, try them both and see which one performs best for you. I would however suggest you get a good foam windscreen and a separate metal screen pop filter, (like the Gator Frameworks Metal Screen Pop Filter amzn.to/3Pi9A0b ), so that you can get 6-8 inches from the microphone without popping. If you search on KZbin you'll find there are videos that show how you can make the SM58 sound a little like the SM7b. Finally, if you do use the Shure SM58 I would advise getting an inline mic preamp like the Coda MB-1 Microphone Preamp ( amzn.to/4gXwDcr ) that will give you 25dB of clean gain, so that you won't have to turn the input up so high on your Scarlett, and therefore have a signal with less noise. Good luck.

I got both the blue yeti and scarlet solo for Christmas. Is the sound quality appreciably better with both rather than just yeti to computer? Because it seems like the latter is easier, at least for just recording books. (But I also have a Sure SM-58 and a mixer for live guitar vocal performances. I could hook that up for recording music. ) What’s my best choice for recording spoken word?

Is the Video Capture card necessary when shooting only still photos? Also, does this setup blank out the camera's optical viewfinder?
@DIYVideoStudio
@DIYVideoStudio 15 күн бұрын
If the camera is UVC/UAC compatible you may not need the video capture card, since you should be able to connect the camera to the phone directly. Otherwise, yes you will need the video capture card. I've only used this with mirrorless cameras so cannot confirm what would happen to the optical viewfinder of a DSLR, but assume you would have to be in live view so the optical viewfinder probably would be blank.

@DIYVideoStudio
@DIYVideoStudio 16 күн бұрын
If it says "...no space left on device.." I assume you're trying to record to your phone and that you need more room on it. If your phone can take an internal SD card you can expand the storage space that way. Although this setup does let you record video to the phone, that's not the primary purpose. The main reason is to allow you to use the larger screen on your phone as an external monitor for easier composition and judging focus. I hope that helps.

Can this be applied to Zoom H5n as well? It seems like the usb has DC 5 v on it….so maybe just connecting it to a power bank then?
@DIYVideoStudio
@DIYVideoStudio 17 күн бұрын
Kind of, but with a variation. The H5 doesn't have a DC power input on the base, but unlike the H4n, the mini-USB poet can be used to supply power to the recorder. You can simply connect a power bank to the mini-USB port on the H5 and rge power bank will supply power instead off the internal batteries. With the power bank connected, the battery icon in the top right corner of the LCD display disappears, but if you unplug the power bank, the battery icon will suddenly reappear on the display and show the power left in the internal battery. From my testing you can plug and unplug the power bank with the H5 powered up. Also, you don't need to remove the internal AA batteries. I hope that helps.

This is not a cheap alternative to something like an Atomos Ninja V, where you could record video to an SSD in the quality you are after. Although this setup can record video to the phone, its purpose is to have a larger screen than a typical camera LCD display. I only recommend recording on the phone for specific purposes, such as showing your audience what you can see on the camera's screen, but it will not be high-quality 4K. Although the video capture card used in this setup can accept 4K inputs the output is 1080p. I hope that clarifies and helps.

Premiere Pro sometimes does unexpected things. Check whether you have applied any effects or transitions at the point where you see the problem. Then, disable the effect or transition to see whether the problem has gone. If it has, can you apply the desired effect or transition in another way. Other things you could try include clearing the cache.

You could in fact use condenser mics with the EXH-6 capsule if they had internal battery power or an external phantom power supply. I hope that helps.

The RF16mm f2.8 STM lens is a cheap wide angle that will give you a slightly wider field of view but you will be stuck with that one focal length. Depending on room sizes you might benefit from a slightly wider view. You could consider the Canon RF-S 10-18mm f4.5-6.3 STM lens. Although it is slightly slower, that probably wouldn't be an issue in real estate photography. Nothing is moving so you can use longer shutter speed. When combined with your existing 18-45mm lens, you will have a fairly wide range of focal lengths.
