Just a final video with a closer look at my replacement knife along with a few thoughts. For those interested I'll make a video of the knife in use in the field over the coming weeks. Enjoy.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, aye you cant beat a scandivex edge it certainly beefs up the durability of the edge. I have a Casstrom No.10 in Sandvik and a No.14 in Boehler 720 with the former at present being the most used not just for mooching about the woods but also for gralloching and butchering deer. I met the owner of Casstrom about six years back and was impressed with the range of knives that the company offered at the time. I didn't have the money to buy a knife of him at the time and ended up buying one when in a shop near Falkenberg in Sweden. I'm glad that you Casstrom sorted out the issue with your Lars Falt knife, looks like a beauty of a tool, I too am a sucker for the traditional and agree with your advice on beginners on starting out with a Mora of which I am a huge fan and user. They may be cheap in price but the steel quality is excellent. Subbed your channel. All the best from Scotland. Garry

Thank you for the videos. I'm interested in how this one performs in the woods. Even though I have some very nice knives (also customs including a Jacklore) I think about getting this blade and build my own handle. I m not a blacksmith but i want to try to build a knife myself and this blade seems to be suitable (I think the factory handle would be too thin for me :)),

I'm in the market for 1 scandi grind, carbon steel midrange production knife that will outlast me. It will take months to consider as there won't be any more bought. This one is on the shortlist along with the Helle Temagami and 3/4 others. I got a bad Mora years back and had lots of "experts" telling me there's no such thing or it was something I did. It happens with most knife brands (there's a vid of someone breaking a Ben Orford somewhere on YT) and haven't had a bad Mora since. You are right that most knives like these bushcraft knives are a bit of a vanity. I get sick of the plastic of the Mora/Hultafors knives but a Marttiini Lynx is wood, leather and inexpensive so back to the vanity argument!

Try the Enzo Trapper as an option, it seems to have a good following and they offer it in Emma's steel if you wanted something with excellent edge retention. Good luck with your search and enjoy whatever you decide on. Stay Safe.

@@adventureoutdoorsuk9271 I've got a Trapper in N690c with a flat grind, was a gift and it's had some heavy use, only knife I have that is better with wood is a Hultafors chisel knife. That things brutal. The N690c sharpens fairly easily too. I'm hoping a carbon scandi will be better than the flat N690c, it will have to be pretty good.

Agree with you about stropping and eventually ending up with a micro bevel. I find it does make the edge more robust and still very sharp .

Hi, i must say I had a little heart attack when I saw your video.I have the Lars Fält knive too. I like it a lot. It came RAZOR SHARP out of the box. It's my first O2-steel knife. I wonder wether the etching is deep, can I clean it up ? Or will I remove it. What do you think. I really liked you following up the story. Thanks a lot, Spooler from Holland

spooler hi danks voor je antwoord. ik spreek een beetje Nederlands. But my spelling is bad. I clean all my knives with a little warm water and washing liquid. After drying I use a good coat of mineral oil or Walnut oil for food knives. The etched logo should be alright if you don't rub hard, it seems to be etched pretty deep. Good Luck. Dank je

Ranger Bill - yes it's held up a dream and worked out to be a real workhorse, all round blade. Definitely more of a camp knife for your camp utility uses. It strops pretty quickly to a really keen edge which I like, the edge retention is actually surprisingly good for a mid range steel. I've taken it to the stone once and sharpening was easy enough. I have looked after the knife and sheath, as result they are both still in excellent condition. If you are after a larger bush blade you will enjoy this woodlore style knife.

Hi Florian, in a word..Yes. It's a great knife. Seems to hold a good edge, although I haven't used it hard over multiple days to really test it's wear resistance. The main issue I have found is that for bushcraft specific tasks it is a little large. It's great as an all round companion and camp knife, but just lacks the finesse of slightly smaller blade. Certainly not a draw back for me as I always carry a folder or my Mora 125 for the fine carving details. The knife still remains good value for money in my opinion. Nice scales fitted with liners and brass hardwear in a sturdy Nordic style sheath. It's as close as you will get to a custom built woodlore style knife for this price band. If you are fussy about steel, I would research Bohler K720. Good Luck.
