@sovietunion764311 ай бұрын
what i like about chaos in fantasy, is that it actually feels, well chaotic. chaos in 40k seems much more of a somewhat unifed or maybe federalized force. sure chaos marines will fight sometimes but it honestly its meh. in fantasy its always stated the chaos gods are openly at war with eachother in their respective domains at all times and followers from other gods will fight. even things like beastmen show how chaos actually feels more than just 'muh dark gods' like in 40k because it shows the warp as more than just chaos, but something that is inflicting all of the world. even the skaven could be classified as warp beings as they are so warp mutated that even if they aren't from chaos they are from the warp. its really just more interesting to me than just the 'dark god' approach 40k does. also nurgle doesn't make any sense in 40k. why did the warp spawn a chaos god of disease when most races don't deal with disease? only humans really deal with diseases and even then most of them are somewhat curable. nurgle makes more sense in fantasy where pre industrial society has just so much disease going around that a chaos god makes more sense.

The newfound unlife which the kings awoken to by Nagash's doing much in contrast with the Necrontyre found themselves in a state of unlife a mockery of the immortality they sought. The other kind is a lot more interesting as they are a mutant(potentially chaos aligned) that exist in Necromunda and we see these ones a bit more as there is one in the Kal Jericho series. These things have most of the same powers as a regular vampire though as you can imagine they aren’t really doing anything special in the wider narrative of 40K.

The 40k ratlings, ogrens, and the original squat concepts are a direct taking of these but in space. The knightly orders also are the concept the space marines derive from but they have diverged wildly from the origin point. Wheras ratlings have recieved almost no attention and have also seen almost zero divergance.

There are several things I disagree with. So I wrote them down, but otherwise great video. 1, the empire of man has guilds that function the in many ways like the tech priest in 40k, the wizards are more like the astropaths noble house of 40k. 2, The wood elves were not created because of the elf civil war. They fled into the woods to escape the dwarfs during the war of the beard. 3. Beastmen are common in the empire's dark forests (like drakwald) and swamps. 4. nord men are not slaves to darkness and will sometimes fight with the empire against chaos invasions. 5. chaos dwarfs = dark mechanicum. both use a lot of demon engines. 6. the if the unified they would be able to defeat all other factions is used for both greenskins and the skaven.

I would like to point out the Skaven share some similarities with the Tau, like they're are ruled by a cast of grey furred wizards. But also most clans are off shoots of a major clan fulfils a niche like Clan Eshin being the assassins, Clan Moulder providing Monsters and Clan Skryer providing technology. But what get's interesting is when you look at Queek Headtaker who seems to have a lot of none-Skaven traits like honour and also has a deep hatred of Greyseers, which kinda makes him the Skaven version of Farsight especially considering he might be falling to Khorne. Plus both Tau and Skaven have a short lifespan and they both mirror humans with the Skaven representing the absolute worst aspects of it while the Tau represent the sinister side of governments.

My controversial head canon equivalent of races between fantasy and 40k (fight me!), AND PLEASE HEAR ME OUT I'M NOT INSANE: - Skaven = Tyranids (they are both an all consuming swarm race that seeks to consume all) - Loyalist Space Marines = Bretonnia (before Knights had lore) (just think about it: heavy armour, light colour schemes, heavy hitters with knightly codes of honour and that are heavily inspired by crusader knights in the sense that they live in "monasteries" and go on crusades) - The weirdest one: T'au and Lizardmen (HEAR ME OUT! They are equivalent, but in a comical way. I think GW made the T'au as a way to say "what if we make 40k Lizardmen but as the opposite". They're just too opposite to be casualty: the youngest and most naive faction, they're very tech focused and have near zero contact with the Warp, they favour range combat and are diplomatic and do not look down on other species like the Slann and their servants do)

Found this: “The warlock engineers soon discovered the Device of the Great Beyond, a communication apparatus that spoke to beings from beyond the stars. As they swirled its many dials, a querulous voice spoke through the stone speakers. That voice, fair and clear caused the Skaven to bolt away. The device was something like the far-squeaker, but the melodious tones that issued forth were, if anything, kin to the despised speech of the elf-things. I'd argue that the Space Marine equivalent of Fantasy are Bretonnian Grail Knights. Superhuman champions blessed by their god to fight Chaos and the enemies of their people, seen as divine beings by the common humans, they follow codes, they live in special holy buildings (Grail Chapels vs Fortress Monasteries), and their greatest foes are their own fallen brothers, Mousillon and the Blood Knights for Bretonnia, Chaos Space Marines for Space Marines. You could say that there's some Empire of Man influence in there too with the knightly orders being similar to the Space Marine chapters, and the Blood Knights are clearly the inspiration for the Blood Angels, but I think if you're looking to narrow things down to a single race it has to be Bretonnia and their Grail Knights.

I'd actually say that the Colleges of Magic are closer to the Adeptus Telepathica, and the equivalent of the Mechanicus being the Imperial Engineering School and Artillery College of Nuln. With the Wizard/Psyker comparison, both are greatly feared across the empire, actively hunted down by a form of state-sanctioned enforcer, if left unchecked can cause massive destruction, and can only actively learn, practice and improve their arts after going through a state-sanctioned training institution. (and lets not forget that the 40k 2nd edition Psychic Phase was an almost 1-to-1 copy of the Fantasy 4th Edition Magic Phase) The Imperial Engineers, however...okay, it is a bit more a stretch, but they're basically the ones that keep the Empire running, much like the Mechanicus does to the Imperium. They're needed to keep forges going and upkeep a lot of the infrastructure across the empire. This is on top of coming up with all sorts of weird inventions that occasionally don't kill the user, such as the Carriage-less Horse, Pigeon Bombs, artillery pieces, armoured fighting vehicles, drilling machines etc. Finally, I think Imperial Knights are the equivalent of Space Marines - Knightly Orders draw their recruits from various places, each have their own holdfast where they train and equip their members, each order has their own traditions and beliefs, their loyalty is to the Empire first and foremost, and are considered the elite of the Imperial armies. And if a count does manage to convince a Knightly Order to join him for battle, he'd be well advised to defer his leadership to the order's Grand Master. And then there's the fact that Archaon was originally an Imperial Knight - who managed to read the wrong book one time...

If you do more fantays lore videos could you go over the orcs and goblins, mainly goblins characters like grom and skarsnik dont have any 40k equivalents and their pretty interesting in how they effected the old world Edit to add i think the closest thing space marines have in fantasy are the bretonnian knights both have asperants and squiers going through riggerous training to become super soldiers

Goblins are done so dirty in 40k it's not even funny

I’m sure someone has mentioned the squats being dwarves, and yes 40K did also have chaos squats as well at one point a very long time ago. They are no longer part of 40K universe, LoV are just the new squats, and hopefully we’ll get chaos leagues lol

an interesting comparison that can be made thanks to recent lore changes is that the Newly introduced Children of the Dragon Emperor are Basically the fantasy Primarchs

The warhammer 40k factions feel like condensations and decomposites of often multiple fantasy counterparts (which is odd considering 40k is an entire galaxy and faantasy is limited to a single planet). For example the Orks are both the Orcs and Scaven. The undead egyptians of the tomb kings is obviously filled in by the necrons, but the Thousand sons also fill that role up from another angle. Ogres are obviously Ogryn, but from a narrative/thematic role, you also have the tyranids/great devourer.

The adeptus mechanicus know a LOT about technology. What they generally dont do is innovate or invent but the STC that they do have they have encyclopedic knowledge of and guard ir fiercely

Chaos dwarves are the dark mechanicum in 40k. Both use demons as spicy batteries.

It's worth noting that Sigmar's divinity was never really in question before the End Times. Pretty much everyone acknowledged he was a god. Also it's eorth noting a major difference between the empire of man and the imperium of man is their religious tolerance. Multiple deities are worshipped in the empire, even Sigmar still worships Ulric.

I would say that a grail night is pretty similar to a space marine Skaven are a lot similar to mechanicus Orks in 40k are just orks from fantasy. Because while they do slap stuff together that is because they have innate knowledge on how stuff works, while scaven on the other hand are like tech priests where they don't really know how their stuff works apart from a few very smart skaven that are somewhere doing something else or dead. They sometimes invent stuff but most of the time not really.

I could argue that the tau and the dwarves match up the best. Simply because of their technological innovations and advancements in both universes. Plus both races on rare occasions allow humans to join their society. Their powerful range attacks and hatred for orks also come to mind

I mean, the best comparison in fantasy to space marines would be the stormcast eternals. But i'm not sure if they were present in regular fantasy on account of not being familiar with the thing

I think that the wood elves are more like harlequins, cause the wood elves as a faction appeared after the war of the beard, not the sundering, both factions are kinda isolated from the rest, in 40k they guard the black library and in fantasy the Oak of ages, they are the only elf factions that have gods actively helping them, Cegorach/Ariel and Orion, plus the wood elves have the wardancers, they like to fuck with the rest of factions and are mysterious for bretonians and man, and basically the goal of both factions its fighting chaos
