One day I was walking with an college student in the city and suddenly he threw his trash onto the street. I ask him why he does this… and his answer was, that soon there will come someone to clean the street… and he always does this, cause- why not? / so… in my opinion, he was just arrogant… enjoyed the thought that someone is cleaning his trash after him…

I pick up other peoples trash all the time, but at the same time I feel a resentment towards them for leaving the trash and being so uncaring. I never thought of it as they don’t love themselves enough to pick up their trash. I’ll try and feel compassion for them from now on.

oh wow- i got the obvious impression from you that you were upset with something and wanted to share your thoughts on it. And here i am, having shivers throughout your conversation. Regarding to everything that is happening in the world and inside ourselves, it is truly something that people should, with their clear minds, understand, accept and then recognize that it is something evil and it is everything that people throughout history was avoiding to become. We need understanding, and sympathy towards humanity. Only then by our actions we will become something more than what we value externally but become the very thing that everyone is longing for, is to be a part of a family…

I would like to disagree. A human being is fully capable of holding space for both of them. I am complex enough as a human that I can resent the systems and specific things but that doesn't mean that I am full of resentment. I also love to love. I can love humans to the core and I can also resent the systems they have made or their actions they have done to my guts.

Amen! That's the truth! You are known for your impression on others. It's a rather hard thing to swallow in the unraveling of life. . . People believe that they are excused from their actions upon other people and that life exists outside that interaction and act. However, waking up to that idea that they are a product of the consequences of their actions is like drowning into the rabbit hole which leads to forced God-like isolation and solitutde until the Spirit smacks the human flesh up for the rest of their life that it is THEM who is the maker of their misery and anger... That people are not close in proximity to them because people have to heal from vicious acts imposed on them by the person. It may takes decades for someone to wake up to that.... Glad to be back to feed off stoic, philosophical masculine wisdom with great hair! ;)

Beautiful reflections, that underscore Simone Weil's ideas related to attention and will. Specifically: when she wrote: "Attention, taken to its highest degree, is the same thing as prayer. It presupposes faith and love." and " Absolutely unmixed attention is prayer." and "If we turn our mind toward the good, it is impossible that little by little the whole soul will not be attracted thereto in spite of itself." I had not read Gravity and Grace until you mentioned it, recently, and am just now having the pleasure of soaking in some of this timeless wisdom, and am understanding better what the stoic philosophers offer as well..many thanks for the weekly food for thought.

Having come across an obscure reel of you on Instagram from an anonymous account about 26 weeks ago I started this journey as a student. My teachers mostly you and Seneca. I have to express how much more calm my life feels, but I am so torn. I am 26, and many of my peers are often offended by the change within me, there’s so much I’m letting go of and it’s a bit pervasive. Would love to see a video one day on change, letting go and this pit of self reflection I’m falling into.

I was thinking about this the other day, it's especially your consistency with those actions that shapes how others see you, and how you see your own self really. You being late one time doesn't make you a flakey person, but you doing that repeatedly is what really makes you one.

My #1 goal in life is to heal into a heartspace where I can look at everyone and everything that ever hurt me, with love. To say "you tried to taint my mind, my heart, and my soul. But I took you and alchemized you into understanding, love, and strength" Because, in that moment, it'll be as if it never touched me at all. Just temporary shadowy monsters that only made me sad and cower and hateful for only a little while Hurt people just go on to hurt more people. And then what? We hurt the world because WE didn't take the time to learn to stop hurting our OWN selves I apologize for the rant. It just kinda happened so I'll leave it lol

Most people experience a deep grief as they connect with the parts they had to cut off because of coping or surviving. Linking back the source of who we always were facing your demons can be challenging, difficult and brave. Taking back, your power to live your life the way you desire, an instant relief, it's like coming home.

Thank you for this! I really struggle with the concepts of and required actions in "loving oneself" and "self acceptance" all the while you are not what you want to be/who you want to be/still have many flaws/unhelpful undesireable habits. Normally, if we don't like someone - we move away from them; certainly we don't stay around any longer than we must, and certainly we don't go out of our way to be in their company and finally, it's a relief when we can get away from them. In one of Laura Marling's songs, there's a line that says, "It's hard to accept yourself as someone you don't desire". Tricky.

Another great video. I had this concept in my mind for the past week, but thinking about the bad decisions we make within society and our personal relationships. No one wants to be burden by financial debt because we made bad choices. So why burden ourselves spiritually through social debt and be perceived negatively for bad acts? Of course we don't want this level of guilt on our conscience. Let's all be mindful of how we are, what we do and how we hold these acts against ourselves. Looking forward to the next video!

I initially read the title as "You are known by your cats" and I was ready to just run with it haha. This topic reminded me of an entry I found in one of my journals from high school. I determined that while I do not have power over much of the world, I have power over absolutes. Stating that no one cares about something is untrue if I care about it. Stating that everyone is bad will be untrue if I am good. To this day caring, having empathy, and living up to my own ideals brings me comfort because at least I know for sure that somebody cares.
