When you enter the town in Silver Lake from either side, you'll notice a big, wooden sign with the words "Gateway to Holidayland" on it. This is an homage to to the 1982 film First Blood (Rambo), which was filmed in the town of Hope, British Columbia, in Canada. The town shown here does bear a resemblance to Hope and the surrounding scenery.

@@trulgn Hi there, this just a freecam code, which includes an option to lock the perspective to the vehicle. I just zoomed out. It requires either a modded PS2, or the emulator PCSX2. You can find the codes for it on Burnout 3's TheCuttingRoomFloor page.

@@OmniGlitcher wow amazing! I have pcsx2 where/how to add the codes?
@OmniGlitcher4 ай бұрын
@@trulgn Assuming you have the latest version of PCSX2 Nightly, and the US version of Burnout 3, here's the steps: 1. Create a cheats folder in the same location as your PCSX2's exe file, if it's not there already. 2. Inside that folder, create a blank text (.txt) file 3. Rename that file to "SLUS-21050_BEBF8793.pnach.", making sure to change the ".txt" file extension to ".pnach" 4. Open the file with notepad, or some equivalent. 5. Copy and paste the following: patch=1,EE,D04F50DC,extended,0000FFEB patch=1,EE,005179C0,extended,00000001 patch=1,EE,D04F50DC,extended,0000FFBB patch=1,EE,005179C0,extended,00000004 6. Save the file. 7. Launch PCSX2, go to the "Emulation" tab of PCSX2's settings, and enable cheats. 8. Launch your game, toggle the freecam with R3+D-Pad Up, if all goes well you should now be in freecam! Press R3 to toggle locking on to the car or not, R3+D-Pad Down brings you back to the regular camera.

To this day I still wonder what the developer of Burnout 3 were thinking when they chose my home country, Thailand, as part of the "Far East" track. You would that being a racing game inspired by a Japanese arcade. This would include a Japanese track instead. They also use Thailand as the main country too. Featured as a location for 3 out of 4 maps.
@OmniGlitcher5 ай бұрын
Thailand is actually seen as a sort of staple "Far East" country in my home country, the UK, where the Burnout games were made. So it's not too unsurprising of a choice. Burnout 1 was planning to have a Japan track, but that was cut. Then Revenge and Dominator both have Japan tracks to compensate.
@Heylanda-fb9xb5 ай бұрын
@@OmniGlitcher Didn't know that was how the UK see us. Normally, you wouldn't use the term "Far East" to associate with Thailand. Asian like us use "Far East" to describe the absolute Eastern edge of Continental Asia and the countries located or have territory there like Russia, China, North/South Korea and Japan. Thailand as a South East Asia country are more associated with the term "Indochina" "Kochin-China" and "ASEAN" more.
@OmniGlitcher5 ай бұрын
@@Heylanda-fb9xb That's very interesting. I would generally agree with how Wikipedia defines the Far East, which includes Thailand and Indonesia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Far_East#/media/File:Far_east1.png Admittedly, eastern Russia and maybe Mongolia would not be in my usual consideration, though I can see the argument for them to be. Everything else is though.

Shows how they were able to build a convincing landscape. All that was programmed was what you needed to see. This is the secret behind how they could keep that silky framerate with as little processing as possible. While it feels like it's all just smoke & mirrors when shown in this fashion, it was really just very clever coding & engineering on the programmer's part. Long live the nostalgia of old gaming <3

Yep, there was terrain down there! At least according to the map first presented to the press. However, I'm more inclined to say this is a test scene, as the trees are all of different types and a section is laid out in an entirely straight line.

how do you get the free camera to do that? can you do it for any other game or just Burnout?
@OmniGlitcher7 ай бұрын
For GameCube games, like Burnout 1 and 2, you can use the inbuilt free look feature of the emulator. This can work with any GCN game. For Burnout 3, the freecam was accidentally left in the game's code, and can be reactivated with cheats. The code changes based on what region your game is from. The codes are collected on TCRF. For Burnout Paradise, it's a mod, plain and simple.

1:23 The exit on the left was intended to be a track from Interstate 88 to Big Surf, but was cut from the beta. I think there should be a remaster of this game where all the regions are connected and you can free roam, with more accessible streets and areas that were never accessible before. Maybe add police variants to all vehicles and add an option where you can be the suspect in Pursuit mode, adjust the heat level (affects how many police cars are in pursuit and the type of units they use), and have events as an officer where you have to shut down multiple racers rather than just one. Perhaps there could be a final race in Championship mode where you go through a tour of all regions, being pursued by the cops throughout the race. I loved crash mode in this game, and now that we have more advanced technology, I imagine it could be more chaotic and fun if a remaster was made, with explosions and more features. Criterion should definitely remaster this game.
