You bring up "weaponized incompetence" but are neglicting the opposite side of it. I know several guys whose gf made them get rid of any decorations when moving in together, furniture, or other objects (like towels) bc it didnt meet their ideal "aesthetic". So many men dont want to try in the first place, or they eventually break up and men just dont feel like putting in the effort and money again just for the next girl to maybe do the same thing.

As a woman, I think the whole bed frame argument in particular is ridiculous. Most bed frames are expensive. We currently don’t sleep on one, but tbh I prefer it that way. It’s lower to the ground and more comfortable. Also it’s not necessarily a necessity. I’m not going to spend close to $1,000+ to make people online happy who will never see my room.

Love that you mentioned that moving production "local" doesn't magically make it ethical. I think some people think exploitation in the fashion industry only happens in sweat shops in Bangladesh and similar, and are actually willing to pay extra for things made locally were people are still being treated like dirt and the markup doesn't go to those people anyway.

Man I hate the term "weaponized incompetency" 99% of the time it's used to describe laziness, a lack of enthusiasm, or a genuine lack of understanding something. But we must morph every single action we dislike into a form psychological torture. "Weaponized" as if not seperating the whites from the colors is the equivelant of a hand grenade. I work 55 hours a week. I do chores when I get home. I try to balance in maintaining friendships and relationships and working out and having some semblance of a hobby. I'm just so sick of constantly feeling like I'm not good enough. Now I'm also an abuser because I don't wash my sheets enough.

As a person who went through a serious ED and has been doing sports consistently for over 5 years now (including pilates, weight training, running, etc.) I hated this video lol. Your understanding of sports is pretty shallow imo. The arguments are based on a couple of articles + your own experience watching tiktok (as if tiktok as a medium isn't an obvious display consumption), so the whole essay looks like a meaningless rant. Also, Alo and Goop are not influencing everything everywhere (e.g. Eastern Europe).

I actually got into Marie Kondo during the pandemic and have learned to give away things that I haven't used in ten or more years and store things properly without just shoving it mindlessly. It practically helped me with my mental health. But I don't follow every single rule of Marie. Its good to be flexible too. It doesn't work for everyone. Its always a stressful journey and not everyone has the mental or emotional requirements to do so.

I actually read Priscillas book when it came out, I was 14,the same age as Priscilla when she met Elvis. I remember feeling weird about it and commented to my mum why would a grown up man want to date someone my age . Obviously being 14, I was too young and inexperienced to grasp all of the events in the book. I watched Priscilla yesterday, it made me feel so sick and I cried through a lot of it. Basically, Priscilla was groomed. A very young and average looking girl is suddenly in the orb of the greatest star of that time. He flatters her, makes her feel sorry for him , boo hoo my mamma died and I miss her. Then he goes ,ignores her ,then demands she drop everything and move in with him. Be displays extreme coercive behaviour, telling her how to look, behave etc. He leads her own sexually but refuses to satisfy her needs. He introduced her to drugs, booze and a hedonistic lifestyle. It was horrid and yucky and really upset me. It's very interesting to see how Elvis is betrayed when a woman views him. Couldn't be any more different than his portrayal in Baz Lermans film. I think that Priscilla was definitely a victim of grooming and was in an abusive relationship. What grown ass man finds 14 year old girls desirable. Bletch. . You should talk about Jerry Leee Lewis he married his 13 year old cousin and she'd for 2 kids by 16. She really looked like a little girl too. ....

No I don't need a coffee table. Or a pretty vase. Or any other clutter. No it's not because I wait for a women's magic touch to do it for me. I just don't need those things. I keep my place clean, I know for a fact that I cook better than average women, I just don't need all the clutter. I can walk through my apartment in complete darkness and not stub my toe once. Oh and the best part? It means I spend less time cleaning. I will not, in a million years find a reason why I need a fucking pillar of crystallized salt on my shelf like you do.

i'm from the northeast us and southern culture is so insane to me i genuinely don't understand why anyone would join a sorority like these i met my partner at college and their fraternity (one of the queer coed ones) issued me a bid just because i was around the house some and they liked me (ie the way many bids were issued, which made me decline as they were not great judges of character :| ) but like. they took *me* out to dinner. people really pay hundreds of dollars to rush sororities ??????????

The sororities in the south really make me sad because basically if you’re a girl who wants to stay in the south you HAVE to play into the politics. You’re only valued post graduation if you were in a sorority and how exclusive that sorority was, nothing to do with actual education helps in the southern affluent life style. I’m sort of glad there is a lot of people that move around in the country because this toxic southern bell culture is truly disgusting if the only way you’re valued as a woman is if you get SA’ed by some stinky frat little boy and are mercilessly bullied by b**ches for four years. It also drives me nuts when people (especially men) fall all over themselves when they praise southern women for being so “beautiful”. Like wow, thank you for reinforcing patriarchal hegemony and a culture that asserts control over women’s bodies…

I just wanna say, as a man, I have an amazing bedroom. First, the walls, the best combination, pink on the top, brown on the bottom and white on the trim dividing the two. Next, the bed, got a pink comforter with grey cats on it, sheets are grey and white checkerboard. Last, the room is clean. Yes, it is all for the neopolitian scheme; and yes, I am bisexual.

The health aspect reminded me that when I was dealing with graves disease (meaning your thyroid is overworking), so many people told me they wished they had it too because it generally keeps you thin (because your metabolism is very high). Definitely felt weird and rude, not a lot of empathy for me (and other people dealing with it) being sick, just them seeing the physical aspect of it. Another health thing; I think weighting yourself is often kind of unhealthy and unhelpful. I think it's definitely tied to 'health advice's' from teen magazines, but it doesn't tell you anything. It's never focused on what your body can do, and if you're actually being healthy. And when it's needed for a doctors exam, doctors have a weighting scale. I'm honestly of the opinion most people don't need to weight themselves, it just gives you anxiety and makes you focus on the wrong stuff. I wish that social media was more focused on finding comfort in the body that you have, than constantly needing to feel you have to change yourself and your body has to look a certain way to make you feel like you can belong and are worthy of being you. I personally got into a deep dive into kibbe's bodytypes a couple of years ago, and while it's definitely difficult to understand at first, it helped me a lot in embracing my own body, and to stop comparing it to others. To understand that there are so many different body types, and that not one is better than the other.

Not going to lie, I've found myself buying products that were prominently featured on social media. Some were fails (I'm looking at you, storage containers meant for cold cuts and cheese slices that left everything slimy and wet). Some are actually worth the hype and money, like the Simplehuman paper towel holder with the on-board spray wand. I have ADHD and love having things look very minimal and uncluttered, but the double edge sword is that having things tucked out of sight in cabinets and drawers can feel overwhelming and contributes to my executive dysfunction. Having things in my line of sight, within reach AND being clean and aesthetically pleasing is a big win for me.

my partner is thin and conventionally "healthy" looking and has been recovering from an ED for the last year. Their weight gain lately has been a point of celebration. I am walking around with a dad bod also recovering from my own ED but the goal for me just to gain weight. it is just to eat when im hungry and not withhold food from myself. We have the same history with food but i get told to eat less and they get praised for their thinness. Bodies will always be different even when two people starve themselves the same way. We even live together, eat 90% of our meals together, and they are often the same meal. Same lifestyle. Same diet. Very different bodily reactions.

I myself am studying at a college in the Netherlands and for us it’s completely different with frats and sororities. Here‘s a small breakdown: In the city I study at called Breda, we have just like the US a plethora of different „dispuuts“ the Dutch word for frats and sororities, in order to join most of these however you must first be part of a student association. In order to get into one of those you also need to „rush“ in a way, but differently. Some have a so called „ontgroening“ which basically means hazing - no one by the way is allowed to talk about it nor does anyone know what happens there, the only thing I know is that it’s horrible and that in other parts of the country people have died from it. Granted you made it into the SA - congratulations, you can now run for a dispuut, they will invite you to their activities and in the case of the fraternity I was hanging out with in the beginning of freshman year we did all kinds of fun stuff, like wine tasting, bowling, we had dinners together and of course parties. After that initial phase they select a few candidates and then move on to the fraternity hazing, again no disclosure of it, all i know is it takes several months and is unrestricted by University, so they can do anything. Then if you made it through that alive and without emotional or physical damage, you are part of them and have obligations to attend all events. Honestly I kinda feel like we are actually stricter than the US with our systems…

"The main critique I've seen leveraged at Saltburn is that is falls short of its message of "eat the rich". But like...I never saw it as as that. Saltburn (to me) is steeped in a specifically English class context of nobility. There is this gap that cannot be bridged. Oliver throughout the movie has this deep frustration that he does not permanently belong in the sphere of Saltburn. Multiple people specifically goad him with this fact. Oliver is privileged by most people's standards, but it isn't enough. It's not eat the rich as they're all terrible its eat the rich as consuming them, absorbing them, licking the plate clean. The film came across as less a class critique and a hornier knives out but rather a psychological horror story about desire and not being able to have what you want the most. Oliver will never belong truly at Saltburn. Oliver despite worming his way into the family never has physical intimacy with Felix. It's not skewering the rich, it's commenting on the deep desire to inhabit their skin." Credit to surprisearson on Tumblr
