Sonic Satam is the most overrated piece of Sonic media to date so frankly no it doesn't deserve more credit

This is a video about the SatAM version of the character. Not to mention, a vocal part of the modern day Sonic fandom is outright hostile to SatAM fans and the show.

22:23 I have heard a theory (I think it was from Shayy's Flowey video?) that hes not talking about people watching playthroughs, but to the PLAYER specifically. Were controlling Frisk to do all these horrible things, while the player sits behind the screen, on some level isolated from the consequences of what happens, just watching through a screen.

I fall into the camp of disliking Alphys because of the DT experiments, though I also give Asgore some of the blame. Because Alphys does not at all seem to me to be qualified for this position and thats the sticking point got me I can’t get past. For one thing the wording that Asgore ‘asked for anyone who’d fallen down’ heavily implies that the victims of the DT experiments were not able to medically consent to their bodies being used for science. Which is…extremely upsetting. There’s also the fact that Alphys was hired under the pretence that Asgore believed her to be knowledgable about souls because of Mettaton. But Mettaton being a ghost inhabiting a robot instead of a newly created lifeform by Alphys is a secret to most of the Underground. Meaning that Alphys was hired because Asgore believed her to have more knowledge on souls than she did and she *took that job without correcting him*. She accepted a position that had her act as a biologist and medical doctor when all the info we have on her points to her specialising in the completely different field of engineering and coding. Asgore should have investigated the validity of the Mettaton myth more thoroughly and Alphys shouldn’t have accepted a position that powerful based on false (or at least overhyped, depending on how you look at it) pretences. Finally, almost as is to prove my point that it seems Alphys is not formally trained in medicine, her reaction to the DT experiments not working was to just…inject more until it did something. Not necessarily a bad move on its own, but the way she writes indicates that instead of simply the next part of the experiment, this was a desperate, emotion driven decision on her part and…you don’t really get the luxury of making those when dealing with another person’s body. (Especially one thats still alive, albeit comatose). You dont get to just…inject them with more goop because you’re panicking that an experiment isn’t going the way you hypothesised. Alphys clearly wasn’t mature enough to think calmly here, pointing again to the idea that she was not qualified for this kind of work. She also specifically says ‘i’ll just keep injecting EVERYTHING with determination’ which is EXTREMELY unprofessional. If Alphys was trained for this kind of medical work, surely she would have taken a single subject to test this upped dosage of determination on first. I don’t expect her to have predicted the amalgamates but what if the determination messed with her ability to get the dust back to the families? What if she injected too much for the experiment to work and just destroyed her entire supply of fallen down monsters in one fell sweep? It’s the exact kind of medical malpractice you’d expect from an engineer with no formal experience in medicine. Alphys was not a trained doctor who did everything she could and the DT experiments were a freak accident outside her control. That would be truly tragic and make me sympathise with her. But that’s not who Alphys is. She was knowingly unqualified for the job in the first place and continued on anyway even when she had actual lives in her hands. Asgore shouldn’t have hired her, Toriel was right to fire her and Alphys should have spoken up before the DT experiments were even proposed.

I see Toriel and Asgore’s ignorance with raising children with mental illness to be a parallel to the message of the pacifist route. They believe that enough love can solve all problems which is correct and incorrect at the same time. Love can go a long way but you cant just blindly love someone, you need to pair it with knowledge of them and their problems and understand that not everything has a quick and easy fix. The whole mechanic of sparing monsters is about solving puzzles to figure out what each individual needs from you in order to befriend. And your belief that everyone can be befriended is challenged again and again with characters like Undyne, Asgore and Flowey. Ultimately they can all be spared but it takes more than love alone it takes effort and really thinking to find a way to help them. You cant spare Flowey by hugging him super hard the same way Toriel couldn’t cure Chara’s mental illness by mothering them super hard.

I actually disagree with sans not remembering the resets. You could say reload and reset are different, but they’re generally the same. Like if you kill 2 enemies and die and go back to your save, you technically did a reset or “reload” if you will. The time traveler Easter egg, for example. You keep coming back and he sees this as an opportunity to pick fun in you that leads to his room to get a key for his lab. Also after killing sans then resetting, he knowledges that you killed his or the fact that he knows exactly how many times you died. Sure the killing him and him reading your expression is one thing. Doing it once has him say he won’t “grace it with a description” then doing it again has him call you a freak, he knows it happened twice, which a expression can’t really tell. Then him knowing how many times he killed you, he can’t just know he killed you 7 times with an expression. Now I do believe his knowledge may be limited since doing a genocide multiple times didn’t change anything, but that could be Toby not wanting to bother literally rewriting another path, or that sans wouldn’t go crazy like the fan made dust tale sans does.

Terra's story was my favorite in BBS. Out of three main characters, he had a completely different narrative that's very different from anyone we have seen in the series. Sure, you can argue that he was like Riku when it came to using darkness but unlike Riku, he was willing to rely and use it without any hesitation. He didn't realize Xehanort was evil because why would he distrust a great keyblade master? After Xehanort revealed his true intentions, Terra made sure to kick his ass so bad that even his sheer willpower can invoke nightmares into the old man's mind. On the other hand, Ventus and Vanitas just felt like a Sora and Dark Sora story with how much the game focused on their connection. Still had a great narrative nonetheless. Meanwhile, Aqua had the weakest story that was only redeemed by the Final Episode, Secret Ending, and 0.2. Basically, she was just there to chase after Terra and Ven for the entirety of the story while following orders like a lost puppy.

Big fan of this video! Particularly when you talk about the mario RPGs- paper mario 64 is one of my favorite games ever, but a lot of the stuff you mentioned I didn't even realized until now! I would assume you haven't played it, but paper mario the origami king uses leitmotifs pretty consistently as well. One of my favorite ones is how Olivia and her brother, olly, have small leitmotifs that are reused in a lot of songs related to them. Olivia has a small leitmotif that plays in several songs related to her, and olly has also a small leitmotif that plays in songs related to him. What i think is neat is that the main theme of the game is a conjunction of both character's themes!

I always thought the detail of papyrus having such control over his magic as to not hurt you unintentionally when even toriel doesnt was linked to sans having only 1 defence. Papyrus going to the lengths to learn that level of control over his magic for his brothers safety and never making a big deal out of it or mentioning it feels very in line with their dynamic where both lie and do things behind the others backs to try and protect each other

I always interpreted Chara to be unbelievably curious. It's not necessarily maliciousness, but I thought for a long time that many of the things they did was out of a thirst for answers for every single question they had. Why can't flowers be tea? What happens if I eat too much of the flowers that got dad sick? Can we actually leave if we combined our SOULs? Can I really see my old village? Why shouldn't I hurt the ones trying to hurt me? What happens if we erase the world and try again? Curiosity is what leads us to the No Mercy route to begin with. Curiosity has lead players to finding all sorts of secret. I think Chara was determined to satiate that curiosity even after dying. After all, they got their answers and then got more questions. But none of the Dreemurr monsters were aware of how far it would go. The parents especially were ill prepared for a child that didn't have a strong sense of restraint.

Sometimes I do feel that certain characters should have been called out about their actions, you said all that really needs to about Undyne but Toriel also isn't called out enough. Before the second human fell, Toriel was just as guilty as Asgore about the sate of the underground and is never called out on it. After Asriel and Charas death, Asgore in his grief of losing half his family did an irrational purely emotional decision in declaring war on humanity and what was Toriels reaction? To leave him. She didn't try to argue with him, to calm him or anything she just left without any warning, an equally irrational and emotional decision that just made the situation worse. I've always wondered if she stay,if instead of not only leaving Asgore in his grief but worsening it by leaving him, making it so he lost his entire family that day and tried to talk him out of it if any of the six other fallen humans would have died. The second the second fallen human died Asgore become unquestionably worse then her morally but before that they both made terrible decisions in their grief that led the underground to be how it is in Undertale. This isn't a bad thing, it makes Toriel more complex and makes me like her much more then I would otherwise but just like Undyne should be called out for her actions in lying to Papyrus even if it worked out in the end, Toriel should too.

Ive always loved Asgore. And so I never got how people couldnt forgive him for the murder of humans, but could forgive Flowey for litterally doing every possible combination of manipulating, murdering, befriending etc with his control over the timeline. Like, how many of the kids Asgore killed were brought to him enthusiastically by Undyne? What about what Alphys, lying to the families of the Amalgamations about their fate? Or what about the fact Sans clearly has the power to stop you, but doesn't even if you kill every monster but one?(Including his own goddamn brother) Or Toriel being 100% willing to trap you in the ruins with her forever despite how much you have to make it clear you want to move on. Or the fact literally every monster you run into is trying to kill you at first. Ive always had a harder time sparing flowey at the end of his boss fight, since he killed Asgore, robbing us of more screentime with him, but still did. Like I wish so hard that we could sit down and have some tea with Asgore and talk to him. Like i don't think toriel should ever forgive him, thats her right. But to hate him entirely because she does, despite everything so many other monsters say about him, despite the fact he is scared when you show up, because he knows what he is about to do, feels wrong to me. He is arguably the most tragic of all the characters in the game apart from Asriel, or maybe Sans with all his secrets. But this is the undertale fandom we are talking about, so fanon misinterpretations are not at all surprising. (No hate though, I liked glitchtale Sans for ages before replaying the game again and reconsidering my appreciation of Sans and what his characterization means to me.) I hope deltarune fixes his fanon representation.

Undyne might give the player a spear as a shield out of kindness But Papyrus gives the player a way out, just to make it fair He could trap you in a cage of blue magic and then send bones to obliterate you, but orders were to capture the human, so he doesn’t He is totally giving himself handicaps just to make it fair

While I kinda get why people don’t like her, even if I strongly disagree, people hating on her for the true lab stuff is idiotic. For one there was literally no precedent that what happened was what would happen, and ironically that’s generally the case in many science experiments that discover something new. That’s what makes them important. Is Galileo dropped the cannon balls and they did fall at different speeds, his hypothesis would have been wrong, however they didn’t and he was right. If injecting determination into monsters preventing them from dying than Alphys hypothesis would have been right, but they turned into amorphous creatures instead, so she was wrong. The point is science is always a gamble, if it wasn’t, it wouldn’t have any point. In addition to that, the monsters were DESPERATE too. Alphys only did what she did because it was genuinely the only avenue she saw, and she considered the consequences to be worth the risk if it meant having a ghost of a chance of breaking the barrier.
