You guys should totally do the pick-a-design-out-a-hat challenge! You can have your own mini World's Fair for skoolies. Crazy designs push engineers to think outside the box. It is so easy to become so rigid and overly practiced that you miss opportunities to discover something new. The best inventors have a little bit of crazy design and engineering curiosity. That would be awesome to watch.

I started out hating this video. I guess based on the cluelessness of the interior designers. Ended being pretty enjoyable. Busted out in a laugh when Chuck asked, “is that what rockstars do after concerts is go out to the bus to take showers and eat soup?” Classic Chuck. You both made great points and had fun. Thanks for sharing

Big difference between an architect and a designer. Hump lady is the winner. Even tho no one mentioned they were back just a little forward than usual. Then they go back to the original position. Bald guy just got inspired by a side road by the hour motel inspired on Barbarela. I was just waiting for Jane Fonda to pop out from the shower. Coffee/dinning table is the perfect opportunity for a decapitating missile in a crash.

The “rockstar airplane” inspired bus’ walls could be done easily with vacuum forming, (watch Full Custom on Motor Trend for how-to). The rest of the build was ugly to me. Too much reflective surface and a monochromatic color palette. It felt more inspired by an ice hotel. The Doctor’s office build lacked a lot of practicality, especially without internal access to the kitchenette and toilet or sufficient storage. That enormous skylight could be made, (again by vacu-forming), but would be scratched up within a short time when exposed to the elements and any amount of sunlight would heat up the interior to intolerable levels. I agree with both of you, the cuckoo clock build is the best of the three. The cabinet toe-kicks could be further storage pullouts and still keep the same pattern look. The window to the shower wasn’t a very good idea, (unless you’re an exhibitionist), a pocket shelf would be a better use of that space. Wheel well height can be lowered to a point, depending on your weight, suspension travel and tire sidewall height, (lower profile tires are obtainable, for instance; my super single rear tires are 50-series vs the standard 75-80 series). If you were to decide to have a build-off, put Steampunk Steve and myself on that list!

What I noticed is that each time they added something to the bus the dimensions of the bus changed. You can’t have chairs, a coffee table, and a couch in the middle of the bus and have any room to walk around it. Also their concept of space seems to be altered in their length of a feature. Were they added a shower and sink and toilet and then put a bed in you’re talking about A minimum of 10 feet of space and it looks like they only gave up a couple of feet.

I enjoyed this critique session. Some serious commentary along with the humor, staying on target with the reality of making a bus that will be sound & secure, well insulated, and nice to live in, of course. The comments back and forth between you two were cute and insightful, too. Highlighting that designers come up with some far fetched ideas sometimes, but then Reality walks in the door in the form of the contractors who can tell you what really is possible. This made me think more seriously about different elements I want in my bus. If you do another session like this, it might be fun and helpful to talk with some every day DIY’ers. Maybe have them show us what they did in their bus and then have them compare it with what they would do now, after having lived the life for at least 6 months to a year (full-time living), either with or without kids.

This is great. CC was on and got to read "naughty elder floor". I hope you're joking about e=mv2 being important for fuel economy. Wind resistance and rolling resistance are the issues for hwy mileage, and mass plays a part in rolling resistance (which is less important than wind resistance above 45mph, so I've heard). Kinetic energy is minor and stable at cruising. I love the designs and light hearted critique, even if they're crazy.

I need some advice. Im helping with a bus build and the main power source for now is going to be an anker 767 power house. Its going to be in a 2001 ford e350 7.6 turbo diesel thomas 5 window with the handycap door schoolie. My question is, given the roof space, she also wants a max fan, and the pv requirements of the anker, whats the best solar panel combination for that setup? Also would a 20A dc to dc charger be sufficient alternator charging? Any advice will be greatly apriciated. Your channel is such a valuable resource 🤙we've got the bus bug lol we're also doing a 40 foot flat nose pusher bluebird😅

First, you are not designers, so why are you critiquing them. 2nd None of them have ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST context. 3rd SKOOLIEs have a culture of a personality, the customer has needs. 4th None of them had a personality that they were working for. Or That they connected with, anyway. 5th Your picture in picture of their work should been large and you two should have been small. 6th They should have been given a budget, rusty bus, and a real person, single, retired, married with kids, fat, slender, bald, metrosexual, young, older, animal lover etc. REAL LIFE.
