Potato is a genetically diverse crop and the seedlings do not grow true. That means that every seedling grown from TPS is genetically unique and will produce tubers with different characteristics than the parent. Every potato plant grown from seed is a new variety. There are thousands of potato varieties with different colors and forms found in the Andes, but these types are a challenge to grow in North America because they do not form tubers until very late in the growing season. Andean potatoes are more readily available as TPS than as tubers.

I've been growing a lot of the ones from the grocery store that we kept too long for the last several years. This year, I'm going to save the seeds to see what I can pull out of the genetics gacha. That is, if my chickens don't eat the berries (they have before, and scared the living hell out of me)

A little dirt never hurts until you get tetanus 😂
@blackkennedy3966
@blackkennedy3966 9 ай бұрын
Not likely. You need a deep wound that gets soil in it or punctured by something that has been in the ground like a rusty nail which forms a deep cut. Tetanus bacteria needs low oxygen conditions like inside a deep cut to grow and infect you. Otherwise if in a shallow cut the oxygen will kill the bacteria by oxidation.

QUESTION !.......How can you ferment cucumbers using vinegar in the brine?........My mom made home made pickles using plain water, spices and cukes......They say no vinegar..?......
@Mrsnufleupagus
@Mrsnufleupagus Жыл бұрын
Answer.... you can't ferment with vinegar, then it would be called pickling. Fermenting is done by using 2% weight veg to salt, which is often mixed with water to make a brine. The salt starts the fermentation process and after a month or so....fermented pickles!!

From what I heard it’s an extra 2-4 weeks compared to planting from tubers. potatoes are from the Andes so they need to form tubers quick!

Thank you for this video! I had to thin the seedlings I planted for seed starting today and it was making me sad to get rid of so many, until I thought about microgreens and realized a lot of those little thinned seedlings were probably good food. I've now got thinned broccoli, cabbage, and amaranth seedlings that my husband and I are going to try on pizza tonight. Do you know if anyone has done zinnias as microgreens? That may be a little out there but I've got a TON of zinnia seedlings I need to thin, and supposedly zinnias are edible...
