I think it's more an answer to the implied accusation that these offer sheets were somehow 'personal' because of the GMs involved, or were meant more to throw a monkey wrench into Edmonton's finances than to improve the Blues. But look at these two players and then at the Blues franchise depth, and you'll see that Broberg and Holloway fit in perfectly with the stable of young players the Blues have in, or on the cusp of starting in, the NHL. They now have 12 former 1st round draft picks aged 25 or younger that will be trying to make the team over the next 4 years or so (in addition to a few other young players who are also projecting to be regular NHLers). They're all individually gambles, of course, but with the cap space to spare and some older veterans likely to move out over that time frame as well, a shrewd GM will make this move every time. I think Bowman and his team did a nice job coming out of this still fairly well off, especially given that Edmonton's cup window is NOW, while the Blues will still be retooling for a few more seasons before emerging as a potential cup threat. Both teams may be better poised for their respective goals.

Why would we revisit an aging, offensive d-man, who’s not known for his defending? He wouldn’t get much PP time with Bouchard running things. This isn’t a popularity contest, it’s time to win the Cup! Schultz isn’t a shutdown, hard nosed blueliner either. Goofy ideas & some of these dreamers are actually getting paid to write this drivel❓ Championships are won with DEFENCE. Why waste the money⁉️ 👎🏻

For the right price I guess Barrie could slot in with Kulak, would be nice to have him man the point on PP incase Bouchard goes down, but Nurse also has PP experience. Barrie could be a little bit of insurance incase Emberson don’t work out with Nurse. And if the defence don’t look good by trade deadline then it’ll be time to upgrade.

I wonder if Dante Fabbro might be pried loose. He's on 2.5m AAV, which is not outrageous, he's a right-sided defense-minded guy whose contract expires at the end of the season, and he's been played alongside Josi, meaning he's seen serious minutes against top players. Ekholm would also know him well, so they'd have an inside scouting report.

@@Kjell777Iverson Is Emberson ready for a top 4 role on a competitive team? He does not have a great deal of experience, and Nurse is not the easiest guy to play beside. Sounds like a major risk. Playing Emberson on the 3rd pair with Kulak would be an easier way to break him in and assess what he can do. Still, Nurse/Emberson might be the only option until the trade deadline. I hope the Oilers forwards can score a shitload of goals, because they might have to.

I watched almost every oilers game last year and it's Ekholm and than sewage, Bouchard is a tire fire defensively and the most irrelevant 80 point dman I've ever seen and if he left oilers fans would turn him faster than woke progressives canceling a white man. The minute he signs that 10 million dollar deal it's another Nurse anchor. The only good thing I'll say about him is his shot but other that his contribution is a drop pass to McDrai for the assist. People say but look at his analytics well he's incredibly sheltered and plays basically every shift with #97 and unlike a guy like Quinn or Cale who actually are good defensively, Bouchard doesn't drive play or is the reason the ice is tilted and unlike them he's a complete disaster when he's not paired with his usual partner and not sheltered, Ekholm completely carries him.

I know some say Stecher should be 2nd pairing with Nurse and Emberson 3rd pairing. To me does it really matter where a guy is penciled in vs where they end up? I have Emberson with Nurse mostly as Emberson is a SHUT DOWN D man freeing up Nurse to roam a bit which we know he likes to do. Basically Emberson will Butt Cover Nurse. We don't really know how Stecher is doing after the surgeries but I did like what I saw last year before them. Comparing players to those now with other teams and whining about it doesn't change reality. No one will take Nurse's contract without so much sweetening it gives the planet both Type 1 AND Type 2 diabetes and the Oilers don't have that much to give so he's here until someone wants to pay for the privilege of a 5 to 6 million dollar D man paid over 9 million and Connor and Leon are okay with loosing one of their best friends and a big voice in the locker room AND he agree's to go (about the same odds as walking on the surface of our Sun and expecting it to snow). PTO wise it's a free way to evaluate guys and put bodies in the lineup without forcing your stars to play meaningless games risking injury. In so far as Leon goes when he decides what he is willing to accept and the Oilers say "Yes Sir" while bending over and spreading the wallet we then will have to worry about Evan Bouchard who can also resign this year. Connor is next year along with Skinner. Enjoy the anticipation of anxiety all of those contract extensions (or NOT) will bring. Take care all.
