Thanks for the pruning info👍🏼 I’ve propagated roses- some from roses in a bouquet and others from the roses in my garden. I used slightly varying ways to propagate them. The first one ever was a small 2 inch shoot that broke off a new rose during shipping. I kept that one in a small pot, about 3 feet from a window in my kitchen, under half an empty plastic pop bottle until it rooted. Then I propagated some bouquet roses using short cuttings (again) only about 2 inches long. They’d already started sprouting lots of small new leaves whilst in the vase, after the blooms went over, so as they looked keen to grow, I cut up the stems and pushed them into some compost which was already in pots from some previous failed seeds in my coldframe outside, as it was cooler weather at that time, being the end of the year. I also moved the first rose cutting into my cold frame to overwinter with the bouquet cuttings, without the pop bottle by then. I managed to grow 6 rose plants from the bouquet cuttings (as not all of them took) and the first cutting from the new rose delivery was also successful. I’ve recently been shoving short rose cuttings into pots and leaving them in a shady area of my garden. I no longer bother covering them for humidity at all but make sure that the compost stays damp-ish. Last week I trimmed off a crossing branch from a rose in my garden, so I cut off the youngest end of that, to use as a cutting and pushed it directly into the soil in a shady border and it’s still alive. All my new cuttings which are outside at the moment with no humidity covers, appear to be alive and sprouting new green shoots. I would say that the cuttings I’ve used successfully have all been more green than those you’ve showed in your video, so not as thick in diameter but not soft. I usually leave a maximum of 2 leaves for photosynthesis and I also scrape off some of the outer layer of bark beneath the lowest new bud which will be buried. I scrape a few stripes into the outer bark, running from just beneath that bud to the end of the cutting (using the edge of a scissor blade or a knife) to prepare the area from where the roots should grow. I no longer bother using rooting hormone powder as I’ve found it doesn’t make any difference to my cuttings. I’ve managed to propagate floribunda, climbing and shrub roses using the same method. I’ve also propagated Photinia (Red Robin) and Camellia the same way.
