It's a pretty genius way to train by mixing mma and parkour 😮

3:28 not sure if it's the same in the US but in the UK there is zero stigma around approaching blackbelts to train or spar. I'd say it's encouraged if anything, since when 2 beginners are sparring the risk of injury is quite high, whereas although a blackbelt will ragdoll you, you'll probably find you're less likely to get injured just because of how clean the throws tend to be. My club was pretty small, and around 50% of judoka at randori were always blackbelts, so I was sparring blackbelts pretty much straight off the bat. Edit - never mind, saw you covered it later in the video! It's probably one of my fav things about judo vs BJJ - much less snobbery around rank.

Such a humble video. I didn’t think Nakano Sensei would achieve a flawless victory like that. Truly impressive.

Great video. You should come up to canada for some Judo, big scene up here. The Edmonton international and the Matsuru cup would be great tournaments to go to. Good luck in your journey!

A wise division 1 wrestling coach was once asked how he would create the perfect MMA fighter. He said something to the effect of, "first I would teach him gymnastics, so he can learn to control his own balance. Next I would teach him Judo, so he can learn to control his opponent's balance. Then I would teach him Jiu Jitsu."

In lower divisions they use a blue belt to differentiate the competitors. At the senior (brown/black) level they typically require one blue gi and one white gi.

Would a Judoka transition to BJJ better than a BJJ practionioner into Judo?
@joshbeambjj
@joshbeambjj 14 сағат бұрын
I’ve seen both cases! It really just depends on the level of both of them. Of course the judoka is gonna have good throws against BJJ people, but the newaza is probably gonna be pretty lacking (and vice versa, I’ve had an easier time with newaza during judo practice, but my throws are terrible 😂)

6:32. Man that’s the truth! I respect every single person who can step on the mats and put it on the line. When I started BJJ last year I remember telling myself I’d never compete. Now I have my 3rd competition this weekend and this was what I needed to hear. Thank you

Nice! Well done - it would’ve been nice to hear a bit more about the throws you got ippon with, and your general approach to your judo matches. Especially in how it compares to your mindset and approach for BJJ tournaments?
@savi00r
@savi00r 15 сағат бұрын
Hey @josh beam bjj Keep going solid start ! you should really pick 3 throws in Foot sweeps and throws and get a good solid foundation on them prior to the next tournament these sacrifice throws wont work as well when you get higher up in the divisions! You will find that judo will become a lot easier with confidence and if you feel that you cant throw people in Judo you will have a very unfun time. Fluidity and smooth is fast in judo. Get more rounds of nagekomi in (movement throwing uchikomi) to help build that fluidness, it'll help you be less jagged. Move with purpose not because you feel like you need to. Technique over muscle is a must in judo or you risk injury to people trying to muscle things through 3 seperate acls at my club torn due to this (thankfully not mine selfishly) the reason you got hurt with the drop seio is because they did it very poorly :p

If you're short, Kouchi and ouchi gari are great, Seionage / ippon seionage kata guruma If your tall Harai goshi uchimata Osoto gari hane goshi all good throws all of these throws also translate pretty well to your BJJ too!
