I got a question I want to get my bachelors in construction it’s 4 years but I work full time in the field would I be able to do it online after work? It’s at LSU but I live in texas
@planandspecКүн бұрын
It would be extremely difficult without a doubt, but people do it. If you're trying to accomplish it in 4 years, it's essentially working/class/studying around the clock. I'd suggest working part time or school part time if either are possible to still give yourself a life - but it's really what you want.

Does the main contractor have to take out insurance so that the sub trades get paid if the main contractor goes bust?
@planandspec2 күн бұрын
Sometimes the Owner will require the GC hold a payment and performance bond, sometimes GCs will have the subcontractor hold payment and performance bonds. This is where a bonding company would step in if there was a failure. Not exactly insurance, but known as a bond. I'll make a future video on different types on bonds.

I’m currently working on my associate degree in CM. I am also a realtor with some investment experience and want to use what I’m learning to transition into a general contractor role starting off with my own residential projects to build/renovate and sell. Would this degree work in my favor?
@planandspec5 күн бұрын
It would certainly help - but running your own business vs. managing projects for another company are very different. You need to know more about running a business.

Now that I'm 25, I've finally decided that I want to pursue a degree in CM. However, I'm wondering if it's too late to start.
@planandspec6 күн бұрын
I wouldn't say it's too late, many people dont figure what they want to do in life until their 30s, 40s, and sometime 50s.

What determines the difference in labor prices between assembly 1,2 and 3?
@planandspec6 күн бұрын
The labor cost per hour is dependent on the regional pay scale, union vs non union, benefits, etc. The labor hours to install are dependent on the duration it takes to actually complete the task. Hope this helps

how do construction management engineering and structural engineering differ???
@planandspec12 күн бұрын
The engineers are responsible for the actual design of the project on paper, construction managers facilitate the actual completion of the work

Awesome videos and an awesome teacher! Just subscribed! I am new to this journey and am exploring. Your videos explain things so clear and full of useful info! Ive got a couple questions. Does residential project usually require a construction project manager? What schools would you suggest to get a degree from?
@planandspec23 күн бұрын
Depends if it's a mass residential builder - typically they have PMs (subdivision buildout), but smaller home builders usually wear all the hats. Google top CM schools in your area, then look at their curriculum. See if it aligns with the job you're after

I want to swrich to the construction sector, but I have no degree in CM or work experience in the industry. How do I break into the construction industry with my 8-year PM experience in marketing/advertising? Thanks
@planandspecАй бұрын
Likely you'll have to start with a PE (Project Engineer) role as the curve for construction is so specific, without previous experience youll need some time to pick it up. Look up PE jobs and see if companies in your area are hiring
