Have you considered using JIS screwdrivers on these Japanese bikes? It might have gotten those two screws out. I have known about JIS screwdrivers for years. But I couldn't see the difference from Phillips screw drivers. And I couldn't see paying $15 for a screwdriver. I finally broke down and bought a #3 Jis screwdriver and I love it. It doesn't cam out and round off the heads. It often works on damaged screws. Also can be used on regular phillips screws. Now I have a set of them and they are almost the only ones I use.

Tom.. great videos.. is there a trick to getting the tubes seated on the carb.. mine are close but not quite there. Just won’t seat

If the rubber on the inlet is hard, soften it up in boiling water and smear some oil on the inside. You have to push quite hard and twist 40 yr old rubber.

To drain the carbs, just let it run for 10 minutes or so until it dies. But, if you rode it often enough you would never need to do any carb work. I have had my Valkyrie 27 years, 114,000 miles and have never touched a carb or been in the engine or trani. However, it never sat more than three months. Ride it. People who have carb problems on these bikes are not bikers, they aren't even weekend warriors. They are like Harley riders. Buy it, polish it, look at it and put it back in the garage.

Hey Tom I have an 81 interstate. I have the same red wire on the accessory terminal. It’s spliced off the smaller red wire from the ignition switch.i do not have the green wire like yours. What’s the story with these wires , cause I’ve seen other interstates without them. I also have the cycle sound radio

Mine was full of gelatin but luckily the piston was still moving. I just cleaned out the reservoir and flushed the lines but now my front brakes are dragging and have destroyed one of my rotors. Guess it's time to pull it all apart and fix it right. Thanks for the video.

Hi thanks so much for your video. I got a 81 gl 1100 about a year ago and just rebuilt the carbs watching your video it helped me so much. The bike was sitting for a long time before I got it after I put the carbs back on it fired right up but after about 5 minutes it started to smoke anyway I think it is my valve stem seals but it could be the rings I'm no mechanic just watching KZbin video's the one thing I'm confused about is when I put my camera scope into one of the cylinders there was a lot of gas pooling on top of the piston and the intake valve when I had checked it the next day. I don't know who to ask about this situation just thought you may have an idea. Hope you are still doing well.

Hi Tom. I wanted to followup on the issue I mentioned below. I solved it. One of the compression springs on the opposite bank of the #3 carb was in incorrectly and prevented it from closing. A quick change and it was fixed so I did the pre-synch and all's good. I really appreciate this series that you did and probably would have put the carbs back on the bike and not found the issue until I went to start it up. Your pre-synch step got me to look at everything and catch the issue beforehand!! Much appreciated.... Good riding.....

Hi Tom. I watched quite a few videos before tackling this on my '97 Valkyrie 1500C, yours were the best for me. I re-did the carbs because I was always having trouble syncing all the carbs with Carb 3. I have a digital carb sync device. Your pre-synchronize test with the light showed me that the butterfly valve was not closed (bottomed out) on carb 3. I can't understand why it would even be open but it is, a lot. I obviously have to fix it although I would have put it back on the bike had you not shown me that test, so thanks for that. My question is how do I get the master carb (3) to close so I can adjust everything to it? I am guessing it has something to do with the bolt on the side of that carburetor. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
