Before you criticize, I have analyzed and I realize I must topologize, harmonize and optimize my compromised and almost unrecognizable font.

if your clean-up : merge by distance command didn't do anything to the pointiness...go back to the step at 2:18 and type in 0 after 'S' - don't just do it by eye (like I did the first 6 tries...LOL)

This is exactly what I've been trying to figure out how to do, and a supremely helpful presentation of the topic. I can't believe more tutorials don't use this and I hadn't heard of it before!

I have a similar issue, I had a logo that I converted into an svg format using inkscape and imported that file into blender and then converted it to curve then to mesh but the resulting mesh has a very dense geometry, which I just filled with 'F' and then extruded to give it some thickness but now beveling is a problem as it has some tight corners where bevel can be as big as I want.

It makes no sense that these features are hidden in addons.

I was struggling for a week or so with a car model where I wanted to create shapes like you did with the loop tools. This tutorial helped me a lot, now I understand, how this tool works and it has great potential...thank you!

what did miss? I can't seem to bend the array correctly. Only he z axis works but the ring formed at 360 is flat. Update: Forgot to apply rotation. All good!

Honestly, if I was starting in Blender I wouldn’t listen to your answers either. Not because you’re wrong, but because I wouldn’t know enough to understand what makes your answer better. They’ll figure it out eventually!

This is the tutorial that you avoid watching when you are learning because it looks complicated, and after watching all the others you realize that there are no shortcuts, you must do all of this to get a good topology 🥲

in previous videos you said loopcuts around the entire mesh are bad, why is it okay here? would there be a way to avoid it?

and you know the top answer on blenderhelp was some rubbish like a boolean and the second most upvoted answer was "why" or "just do something completely different instead"

While I love all tutorial creators and I wouldn't have ever started otherwise, it's great to finally find these specific tutorials. New people won't understand how many good habits they're going to pick up and veteran hobbyist of Blender are going to have their minds exploded constantly. Addressing the community's bad habits, explaining why it's bad, and showing how to do it better. Take notes everyone, this is how you make a tutorial.

Very rarely! they can be useful to get the profile of a shape when cutting out another but the cutting object needs to have good quad topology first. Take a look at my boolean sphere video for a simple overview. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXTYm2Zmi86erLc

Thank you, however I am making the cylinder to upload to a game and using the sub mod at the end sends the verts/face numbers rocketing to over 4000. How can I work round this to make it low poly please. I'm still learning :)

I learned a lot although I believed to be pretty good by now. It's maybe obvious but to me the most important piece of infromation was that the "unselected" mesh deforms when using the curve tool.

Ian the topology master returns! Hey Ian your hard surface models are just spectacular, but I was wondering how would you tackle something really warped and organic looking like a tree log with hundreds of scratches and dents in it? Would you use the same sort of techniques for all of the geometry or would you do more of the sculpting+normal-map baking type thing? Thank you very much for your videos they are super informative!

Doesn't this basically bias the edgeflow of your cube though? It's no longer symmetric on all three axes. 🤔
