I agree with all you guys are saying. I’m a software engineer myself from Virginia and I deal with this everyday. It’s hard finding a job in IT as a black person. Especially when your name disqualifies you in seconds. I’ve been in systems administration and software engineering and I’m still learning others. I just hope this will change now.

Great video! These were some great topics. On the wage gap issue. Do you think there is a wage gap between minorities because it is something we are not accustomed to and there for makes us bad negotiators? For example in my case I have taken some low offers but at the time I thought it was really good money because it was more than my parents had ever made. After a few months I realized that my coworkers were able to negotiate significantly more money.

The bottom line is that companies should only hire the best person for the job. It does more harm to have companies hiring for balancing their diversity statistics. It negatively affects us all when stereotypes are created because people who share a certain appearance have a pattern of not being as good as other people because of the lower entry standards. The accessibility of software development careers is primarily a class issue. Race only appears obvious because there is a high correlation between race and class.
