I have to ask you. When my core is extremly week after some knee injury and consequences, now I have a big problem with a thorasic spine and stability of vertebrae. In case of plank level beginner, I think this exercise is very hard to do and be stable. But I’m trying everething I can do for recovery of weak core. So, basic plank would be first step before doing this one?

it is... tricky. We should have made a video just for that. Basically you have to straddle it, put one foot on top and strap it in and then switch it up for the other. Crawl down with your hands then prop your feet up and go... Simple, right?

What’s the benefit of the hot potato movement?
@functionalfitnessva Жыл бұрын
It should make your "core" do a thing... Reactive tightening, or reactive stability you could call it. Turns into a whole body kinda engagement as you go down through the squat.

Does this correct pigeon toes after hip replacement. I had bilateral THRs. Pigeon toe is on the right only. Thanks for video.
@functionalfitnessva Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it "corrects" pigeon toes. It's a non weight bearing low intensity way to get some hip rotation, both internal and external. I'd be careful after hip replacement and make sure you control the movement without letting the legs "drop".

Difference between this and a "Seal row"? I'm still not quite clear on what a seal row is....
@functionalfitnessva2 жыл бұрын
They are more or less the same thing. We were just introduced to this as a "Bat Wing" row before hearing it called a seal row. Most of the time the seal row is done for full range though. That can require a specific bench or some stilts.

should the T's be done thumbs up? i get conflicting advice on this
@functionalfitnessva2 жыл бұрын
I prefer the Thumbs up position because it almost automatically "packs" the shoulders. Nothing is wrong with a "knuckles up" position, just make sure those shoulders are packed towards your hips and not climbing toward your ears.

My girlfriends PT actually taught her the Is with arms down by the side and squeezing and pulling the shoulder blades down. So really a different exercise than the video’s Is. These are very important exercises to anyone who has neglected shoulder blades, so like 90% of the population. These are all very small muscles around the shoulder blades that you’ll be working with these exercises. That means it’s important to do these without weights unless you’ve done them for a while and progressed. And if you do use weights, start with 1 or 2 pounds only, as these are such tiny muscles and easy to damage.
