Nice video! Also can you try making a video on how to make an ant setup using potting clay? I really want to make one.
@EnderAnts3 күн бұрын
I’ve never heard of a potting clay type ant farm, but that sounds like a pretty neat idea! I’ve made a hydrostone formicarium that’s kind of similar in material you can check here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJKzdpaAjbJri5Ysi=gMMCN7g-XyLmjdb_

Don’t forget to spray the sand with water everyday as it might fall down and kill the queen due to the sand being dry
@EnderAnts9 күн бұрын
I no longer create these types of setups, but in my experience after it’s dried it stays hardened and doesn’t fall. I think it matters on the kind of sand though for sure. But thank you for looking out for me!

Bro people in colorado are lucky, i went there for a good half a month and i messed with some ants in a tree, i kept messing with one, never hurt it just messed with it, and it NEVER bit, wich is crazy i love the ants there, frim texas i got like 10 blisters from tryna down an ant nest
@EnderAnts14 күн бұрын
colorado has beautiful scenery! most of the ants in the southern, especially desert climates, usually have stronger bites and stings because they need to be able to kill their prey quickly. this is due to how sparse food can be compared to lush forests in colorado.

Hey man, I know this is off topic. But I live in Colorado and idk if there’s many night fliers so I can’t blacklight, and I’ve only found tetramorium at my house. I also do not yet have my drivers License so I cannot drive to other places to find them either. Any ideas to help me catch a few queens? Even if I do blacklighting, I don’t care what species I catch, I just want a different species from Tetramorium and I just would like to catch any ant queen. If you have a solution please tell me. Also nice video :D.
@EnderAnts25 күн бұрын
You can go to a park or around your neighborhood. Hopefully you’ll be able to black light some time in the future, you can find a lot of different species all throughout summer. Thank you!

Late message but question Doesnt their substrate need to be deep so that they can burrow and actually build nests? Or is this not a permanent container for them?
@EnderAnts25 күн бұрын
This is a temporary container for them, and I keep the substrate thin so I can track how many workers they have in the test tube

Hey man! My parents are letting me get ants so I was wondering what is the best way to light them? I’m planning on keeping them in my room but I was concerned due to sudden light changes. I had a few ideas, the ants I’m going to keep are Lasius Americanus
@EnderAntsАй бұрын
That’s great to hear! I keep mine on my shelf with a small stick on light on the under the shelf above where I keep them. For a founding colony with just 1 queen, you won’t need any light since she’ll be stressed out. It would be best to keep her in the dark where she is undisturbed so she can lay eggs.
@ThatAntKidАй бұрын
@ so would that mean once my colony has grown a bit it is okay to expose them to some light? Anyways thanks for the input!
@EnderAntsАй бұрын
@ThatLoonKid Yes, once they're already moved into a formicarium, you can just cover the nest portion so the queen can remain in the dark, while the outworld area can be lit where you can see the workers forage whenever.

@ thanks!

Can you make an ant farm just with dirt and no ant house/underground ant base? Or it will stress
@EnderAntsАй бұрын
Yes you can, that’s pretty much a tubs and tubes setup. If they were out in the open without a test tube and not enough substrate to make a chamber, it may stress them out a bit.
