Finally, a motorcycle review that has meaning and value for me. I’m 72 years old, my upper body strength isn’t what it used to be, I have short legs, and I ride like an old man because I’m an old man. I love riding a motorcycle just for the joy of riding a motorcycle. There are plenty of people reviewing motorcycles knowing their audience is a young male who demands performance. I appreciate that, my son is one of them. My son rides a BMW 1000 SS something or other and takes it to the track. I like twisty mountain or valley roads where a motorcycle is just plain fun without going fast. In that way Doodle’s review is just on target and very unique. I believe there is a very large audience for this type of work once she is discovered by more riders.

The MT-07 is by all accounts a phenomenal motorcycle. Personally though I love an inline-4 too much to ever be interested in a parallel twin, so I went for a CBR650. Next up will probably be a Z900. The dealer I bought my Honda from had a Z900 demo in hand and practically begged me to take it out for a little while. Not wanting to be rude, I spent an hour riding around Daytona, including a sprint up I-95. So yeah, I'm pretty much sold on that bike now. :)

What a clear and concise bike review! I think the difference in throttle response you noticed between your Street Triple R and the Yamaha may have to do with the different model years. Your Triumph is a few years older and was probably manufactured to comply with Euro 4, or earlier. Each successive Euro standard is more stringent and manufacturers are struggling to maintain performance and feel, such as initial throttle response and smoothness at take-off, as they make design adjustments in line with the tougher standards. Having said that, there are also differences among throttle and engine mapping and it is possible Yamaha intentionally implemented a milder throttle response on the MT07 to make it more approachable for newer riders. It's weird that the older Triumphs, or some of them, did not have hazard warning lights. I think the newer ones have a separate switch for that. (I believe the European bikes at least have a "parking light" function which leaves the appropriate rear light--depending on market-- on after the ignition is turned to or past the lock position.)
@PetrolJunkie3 жыл бұрын
I can tell you that BMW has been putting hazard lights on the GS for some time. The 1150, 1200 I test rode and the 1250 I own have all had them. US spec bikes.

MT-07 is the bike I wheelied through town during license training (not on purpose - the instructor was unimpressed). Swapped to an er6n for the actual bike license test after that for a more predictable low speed throttle. I prefer my current Trident over both in honesty - but I’m a grandad so that’s perfectly ok ;)

That spec you keep mentioning is probably ride-by-wire vs cable throttles. A physical cable moves the valves open on the motorcycle. And it does so exponentially-ish. A ride-by-wire system tries to read your inputs and compute them as a linear input. Engineering Explained has a great 3 minute video breaking this down in cars. It's called Drive By Wire. I typed all this before researching and both the MT-07 and Street Triple are cable actuated throttles. It could just be that the high points of the torque curve is available more often in the ST than the MT-07. Which does appear to be true. So the power is more available through the rev range, which is also what people say about triples. And some bikes just rev easier than others. If you're riding like a grandma, and I do this too, it'll take some bikes longer for that power to snap on because they're meant to be ridden higher in the RPMs. I believe its called "Lugging the engine"

7:26 Maybe the MT-07 has more torque higher up the rev range. Which might not be something a grandma rider would experience. I doubt you reve the bike up to the red line much. Whereas the Street Triple R is supposed to have even torque right through the rev range. There's also something called fueling that might have an effect on what you're describing.

You noticing the difference in the throttle between your Triumph and the Yamaha comes down to fuel injector throttle mapping. The Yamaha does a more exact computer interpetation of your hand twisting the throttle so it seems to react slower. The Triumph is not as specific. Also, the Japanese manufacturers have to sell their bikes in Japan which is ferociously safety sensitive. It's just safer to have a throttle on a motorcycle that does not dump power into the bike extremely quickly. That Yamaha has a better throttle in it.

I've had my R3 for around 3 months now and put about 1000 miles on it in Western NC (Where I currently live, only 20 minutes from the Blue ridge parkway and 1 hour from TOTD). After riding a group member's MT07, I am highly considering trading in the R3. My R3 is amazing in the corners, and I am as fast or faster than everyone in our group in the corners with much bigger bikes, but the torque of the MT07 is amazing. The MT07 also seemed to turn in much easier than my R3, but that could have been an issue with my front tire cupping. It just got a new front today. Seeing that you are from/ were in Atlanta, have you been to Mountain Motorsports? They have a few MT07s that I am interested in.

For any cycle information on Google ( make model wet/curb weight ) will give you this- The Yamaha MT-07 (called FZ-07 in North America until 2017) is a MT series standard motorcycle or UJM[6] with a 689 cc (42.0 cu in) liquid-cooled 4 stroke and 8 valve DOHC parallel-twin cylinder with crossplane crankshaft, manufactured by Yamaha Motor Company from 2014 and US release in 2015.[6][4][7] As of 2018, the bike is designated MT-07 in all markets. Peace.
