Back when I was about 16 I started lying a lot, I was neglected by my parents emotionally and just started lying to get a little bit of praise or attention. The weird part is once lying had become normalised, I started lying for no reason, I could'nt stop and it was just causing me problems. Eventually I went cold turkey with it, and stopped. Funny enough, my Mother made a big deal about it, was very indignant. Then much later on, I found out that just about everything she had ever said was a lie. These lies had the purpose of manipulating and controlling family members (myself included).

Just found this fantastic video describing my exact current situation with my younger sister- the dynamic is extremely painful and has caused estrangement in our family and I find myself breaking down, feeling helpless about how I can get her to be honest 💔😭

Thank you. I'm sorry 😔 It's so difficult having a sibling like this. I see so many families going through this but we don't talk about it as much as we need to. It's really hard to "coax" someone into being honest. That's a decision she will have to make with her heart and her mind. I will be doing a live chat soon on why we can't change individuals who lie. Stay tuned. Fridays and Saturdays 6pm and after.

My sibling has been lying about me since i started walking. My sibling continued to try and triangulate me and our mom. But my mom never fell for it. I guess im so used to her lying about me it truly doesn't affect me anymore. You can't miss what you never had .

My sibling was a pathological liar. No rhyme or reason behind the lies. It caused a lot of trouble for them and others. They passed away a week ago. I'm trying to unpack so many emotions. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Online resources like your channel have been a life line.

My sibling lies and blames other people, while she was the one that did it. She did it already when we where kids and always got away with it. But she is also a dark triad. She even lies when a lawyer is her neck…and she’s so good that they believe her. As she tells half the truth but twist it on somebody else who did it. She I s also doing smear campaigns behind my back. And she learns her kid to lie as well same way she does. She blamed me of sexual harassment with her son, there is a huge difference between affection for your nephew and sexual approach. She gives me the silent treatment for 5 years (as punishment) and left with the will of our mother. It made me very insecure with myself …these bloody lies…my family believes her ..but not me(scapegoat). And indeed I flight, don’t want to have anything to do with her anymore. And because my Steph brothers believe her story, I left them as well.

What an asset to have someone like you to uplift humanity . Understanding is major in overcoming anything . How important is your work anyway?? Priceless . Judge Judy is spectacular as well . Most people want truth or nothing at all . That's a 🎵 🎶 🎵 🎶 by Pattie Labelle ❤

Turns out everything my high school bestie told me about her life was fantasy, story telling, ... her stories were worthy of wonderful novels. I tried to encourage that career, she's a librarian. she never admitted to the lies... i finally figured out the dead boyfriend never existed... just a boy she watched from a distance. The creeoy part... she married the guy she fantasized about and had turned a character in her elaborate lies abouther life. They have been married for decades now, just wow!!!

What about a teen who you say something to, and she completely makes it into something different and negative. It happens consistently. She also makes up lies often as well.

These kind of individuals are tricky because they "play around" with words, sentence structure, and perception. You really have to know the truth or find some way to confirm the truth because you will never get it from them!

By the way, how do we know someone is a compulsive or pathological liar?
@TherapistTamaraHill8 ай бұрын
This is a great question. It will be difficult for most people to spot. This is more so for the professional and for the purpose of identifying certain behaviors to treat. Common everyday people do not need to make this distinction.

Respectfully In any of the additions of the DMS-5 TR makes everyone have an mental issue. All you have to do these days is disagree with someone and they will say you are social awkward. An sadly the majority of my family are liars but they say something is wrong with me when I call them on their BS/lies. So because I speak the truth, it makes them dislike even more. Black Sheep/Scapegoat Life.

While I don't agree with everything you say here, I can agree that most people would fall under the DSM in today's society. That's one of the biggest gripes about it. And the fact that it is called "the bible" of mental health is a joke. But I don't agree that "all you have to do is disagree with someone and they will say you are socially awkward." There is likely a backstory here and maybe more behaviors that can be observed. Even if someone would be tagged "socially awkward" that doesn't mean they would meet the full diagnostic criteria to receive a diagnosis of social anxiety or autism spectrum.

This one is difficult to get the mind to accept . Even though I can think back and remember the times my older brother wasn't on my side, he'd support the friend or other person over me, wasn't protected , plenty of situations he didn't have my back. Now he has pushed me out of the family and lied about me and everyone of them allows his behaviors and doesn't question his lies.

I'm sorry to hear about your painful experience. My younger sister just did the same thing to me last week along with our mother. It's hard to deal with, especially after protecting her for the past 39 years. But I've always been the family scapegoat. They call me when they need me, though. SMH
