Even though I can understand why people don't like the idea of giving the Symbiotes so much lore, you gotta admit that the now canon explanation for why they are weak to sound and fire is *METAL AS HELL* Basically, the first Symbiote was forged by Knull in the head of a celestial he had killed. And the process of the forging, the heat and the ringing of the hammer, was so intense that it gave the entire species *generational trauma* that manifested as physical weaknesses. Its also why each subsequent generation is stronger and more resilient. Like any good artist, Knull is constantly trying to perfect what he had created. Like, you gotta admit that's facking *cool*

Man, nobody ever lists my favorite X-Men saga when they're listing either the best or most underrated: the Phalanx Covenant. Though honestly, I was never that in to X-Men itself, I liked the spin-offs more, like Xcalibur, X-Force, and especially Alpha Flight. Always seemed like the writers for those series had more freedom to do what they wanted, especially Alpha Flight. If you can't tell Alpha Flight's one of my favorite comic series ever. For me, it's right up there with the original run of Deadpool as well as Hellblazer back when it was under Vertigo. Honorable mention to Mike Baron's The Badger, published under First Comics.

Short version, Nux, is that Venom (specifically Eddie Brock with the Venom Symbiote, as Spidey had it first and there was another antihero after Brock that had Venom for a brief while, see "Agent Venom") STARTS as a Spider-Man villain vefore character development sets in, with the likes of Carnage (a red Symbiote with Cletis Cassidy as its sole host due to literally infesting Cassidy's blood when it split off from Venom, long story) and other foes occasionally forcing Eddie and Spidey to team up from time to time. Eventually it went from Venom being the "villain that occasionally teams up with the hero to deal with a bigger threat" situation to Venom being an antihero, and then we get the symbiotes' backstory and the exact reason why they need a host, and what type of hosts they prefer as a result of how they affect said hosts. My favorite canon is Deadpool being the first host when he was messing around with machines at the Fantastic 4 HQ, then he puts Venom back into the machine that held him a minute later realizing Venom can't handle his mind, putting him back into the machine, and then Spider-Man walks in as Deadpool is walking out and Venom then bonds with Spider-Man a minute later making Venom crazy and obsessed with Spider-Man like Deadpool is. Edit: Also if I remember correctly Eddie was the first Venom Host that was a "Bad Guy" then Flash Thompson become the new Venom Host that was crazier then Eddie but later turns Venom into an Anti-Hero as he learns to work with Venom... And Flash joined the Military to become a better person due to bullying Peter Parker and others, then he comes back from service and becomes Venoms Host and becomes a full Hero and later becomes Anti-Venom working with the Guardians of the Galaxy and S.H.I.E.L.D.
