Not all of humanity. Just enough to keep things in a new normal state. And I’d argue without power grids or mass importing of supplies village life is exactly what people would do. You gotta get you some farmland someplace can’t do that in the middle of New York City in its current population. We would thin and spread out almost certainly. It would get tribal really fast

I think you underestimate how the world would devolve in such a situation. People these days have friends and loved ones they are only in contact with through phones and internet. And the things we need to survive, rely on electricity. How are you going to supply the world with food without electricity? Without the mechanical farm equipment we use today? How are you going to transport that food to keep supply centers stocked? We can only produce the amount of food to sustain life today because of the equipment we have developed to be able to farm such massive amounts of land. How are you doing to get water to people who don't live near a water source without the electricity to run water pumps? A village can survive without electricity. But if we lost power today, the majority of humanity would die out. What is left would survive... but you're still talking about probably 95% of the global population dying off before they reach a sustainable point. And I'm going to guess the people you are talking about still have access to things like modern medicine. Things that would become extremely rare in a world like that.

Solar and wind while sporadic could be used to charge a battery or a bank of batteries. A diesel engine could made to burn any kind of oil.

So let me get this straight. HOW does electricity no longer work? I understand EMP frying everything one time, but how is electricity in general no longer work? You put copper and zinc in acid and it just doesn't make voltage that would light up a bulb or spin a motor? Cause if yes, then all life would just die. All cells use electricity every second. If humans are alive, they're alive because electricity works, on surface of cell membranes. If that works, then by necessity batteries work, and if they do, then you can just build electrical devices and pretty soon have robots and microchips again. Ya gotta think, what happens if you stick zinc and copper in a lemon. If it makes the usual voltage, then right there you put a bunch of lemons in series and can start stuff 😄

Spoilers: There's nanorobot things everywhere in the air that prevent any form of electricity from occurring, those pendants they carry are the key to disabling them. So hydorelectric power can't work either, literally no electricity can function, that guy with the taser stick and the woman with the computer are able to prevent those nanorobots from entering a small space, which is how they can operate electric devices.

I’m not an electrical engineer, but the movie doesn’t make any sense, that’s not how electricity works, it’s not a network, not having electricity won’t stop cars or generators to stop working, won’t make planes ✈️ fell of the sky, won’t stop charged batteries from working, won’t stop solar power, So it’s a crappy movie if you ask me, nothing on earth can stop all engines from running or generating power, not even something supernatural 😂😂😂😂

My thoughts exactly. If electricity really stops working, everybody will drop dead that minute as all the cells in body rely on electricity, voltage difference between inside and outside cell membrane. If that works well enough for people to be alive, all the rest of it has to work. Even if some event like EMP fried all devices one time, next morning you could start making fresh devices just fine, even if old microchips are fried.

@@calinfx270 cells use chemical charge, potencial is made using charged ions, not by electrons moving in mass. Its not the same. Also you cannot use your machines if they have electronic key componets as everything does nowadays. Still, not my intention to defend a shitty script, but is not *that* shallow
