Do parents give them any care now, or are they totally on their own for their food? Beautiful but sad too. I think they were kisses between mom and the last one. Makes me feel better anyway. Wish them a long and happy life.

They are still young yet and have not learned to hunt for themselves. The parents will continue to feed them. Dad will teach them to hunt. Last season, I was able to watch the young all the way into late September/early October. I think that's when the parents said enough was enough. At that time, it was time for them to seek their own territory.

I love how they climb steep branches. Simply - birdies :D And cuties! It was so relaxing to watch this family. Abundance of food, unbelievable harmony between parents, permanent care about chicks! Great experience!

They remind me of 16 year old kids who just got their drivers license and suddenly the world is a whole lot bigger than it was before :-D

Last summer, sitting quietly by the stream, I had a young Horned owl fly and land right across steam from me....15' from me. I sat frozen. The eyes are amazingly yellow. It stood, drank and looked at me for about 5 minutes. A few months ago I had at least 6 different ones all hooting at same time. They are very cool

That is really a dark mother. No brown in her plumage at all.

Had no idea the adults could screech like the babies. Can here the baby starlings in the background.

When the female owl brought the rat, both the owlets and she began to utter the 'I'm hungry' screech. I watched a pair of GHOs raise their two owlets near my house in 2016, and at times the female would screech the 'I'm hungry' squawk. It's part of their universal owl language.

I could tell they were going to leave, but missed the event :( I could watch their antics all day, but geeez not 24/7!! Thanks for this last vision of them, I hope they do well and the magpies let 'em alone!

They were fun to watch. Yeah, you can't watch them 24/7

Maybe they came back. It's seems too early for them to leave for good. Thank you for posting.

I feel relieved now that I know they're okay. I've been watching them for over a month so suddenly seeing an empty nest this morning had me worried. I had seen the live feed when Luke fell out of the nest and was hanging by his beak. Gave me a freaking heart attack and I didn't know if it had happened again. I named them Luke and Owen (Wilson) since the one was a bit goofy. Luke was always on the lookout while Owen loved playing with sticks and chewing on his brother's toes. He was also a mama's boy, still sleeping with his head tucked into her chest. We had joked that he needs a nest basement so he could stay close to mom. :)

We have a nest set up but squirrels are occupying it. Yours looks quite high up. How high?

We had 3 owlets last year. They hung around through the summer then poof! Gone. The pair are still here, hooting up a storm. More babies I think on the way soon.

Poor mom, they were there and now they left. I'm sure she's glad knowing they are ready but look how she's looking for them, like where did you both go?
@Jusywho7 жыл бұрын
Mom and Dad know where their brood are. They need to to ensure they are fed as the owlets are unable to hunt for themselves. The owlets will also fly to their parents demanding to be fed :)

This nest is located in Charlo, Montana. Each season the Owl Research Institute finds a nest the can be streamed live through explore.org. As the owls in this area do not use the same nest each year, we see a new pair of Great Horned Owl parents each year.
