Old joe and Ben and their politics in bodybuilding. Interesting but not surprising what happened to Padilla. Maybe that’s why he has that part in pumping iron where him and Arnold are critiquing the competition. It was his reward for being a company man. Great video. 👍🇨🇦

Excellent video I was a young kid around this time and I first started following bodybuilding and buying the magazines. Brought back a lot of good memories and some of the competitors at that time I had forgotten about I ended up competing in various federations for 20 years from the mid 80s right up until the 2000s

Denny Gable training with Arnold really paid off! Padilla had to be in incredible shape at 5'3" to beat 5'10"/5'11" guys. Giant Killer Indeed!

@12:47 The story went that FRANCO COLUMBU was in charge of choosing the three team members to represent the U.S. in South Africa. According to the whitewash at the time of the report, Franco felt the U.S. had the best chance for U'S' victory with the two heavy weights Waller and Katz. This bum move actually occurred while in South Africa. Two things that always struck me was how the decision served the script of the movie Pumping Iron and how it eliminated the threat Danny Padilla may have posed to Franco's own '75 Olympia ambitions.

Great content, new subscriber here! Have you done any videos that mentions AAU competitor Larry Samuels? He won a few titles in the mid 70s. I saw some pictures of him, he had big arms and small waste like Sergio.

This particular video was very nostalgic. The first BBing mag I ever bought in 1975 (Muscle/Builder Power magazine) had coverage of these events and many of these very pictures were in that issue. At that time MB mag use to put contest results in the middle of the magazine printed on yellow paper. Nice coverage as usual! The inside details are amazing. Where do you get these inside stories? I remember some from reading the mags but yours go beyond that! Well done!

The hot water bottle didn't actually explode. Franco would blow it up to a certain size and then pop it with a sharpen fingernail on his pinky finger.
