I fought in that war supporting 2ACR and took part in the battle of 73 Easting in a thin-skin humvee. Funny how you never know a battle will be famous till years later. During the build up of 'everything' for Desert Storm, I'm sure I saw the JStars at Riyadh AB. I mean, there was almost every aircraft passed through there. I figured it was a case of pilots getting familiar with the different bases available in case of any future need for a quick landing. Great video.

scenario idea if there's models for it: Had the XB-70 been armed as it was originally intended to be, how effective would it have been as a Mach 3 bomber? And this would be able to span multiple eras to test how long it would be effective. Start with 2nd gen aircraft and SAM sites and work up to 5th gen.

Why people even like Challenger 2? This tank is the only one managed to store explosive ammunition with the crew and not having an autoloader at the same time. This is a pure WW2 design.

I See they have finally agreed to retire the A10 and replacing it with the F35, they say its better to use a multi role aircraft than a dedicated aircraft for CAS. The GAU 8 Is no longer cost effective or effective in the modern combat arena due to extensive collateral damage due to the huge area of rounds missing the target due to the cone of fire at the max range, and with the effective range of only 3660 m puts the A10 well in the range of all manpads. Shame really but it its been around since the late 70s so its had great combat life.

There really wasn't a lot moving on the HoD from 25-28 Feb 91. In fact, it was shown that the kills that were attributed to the AF during the air war were inflated because they had been bombing the same targets day after day. Just hitting hot spots whether they were moving or not. One thing you don't show here is the smoke from the Al Wafrah Oil Fields burning. You also didn't model in the hundreds of ZPU 24-1 and 24-2s on all the hillsides.

Y'all should check out the AMAZING podcast series "Blowback" the first season is about Iraq and our involvement with it. The other three seasons are amazing insights into other historical events too. Highly recommend them. Basically though, Gulf War 1 was much more nebulous and complicated and we weren't as innocent or "the good guys" as the traditional historical narrative suggests. We all but told Saddam directly that we wouldn't mind his taking Kuwait, and essentially we used Iraq as a scary boogyman and our actions in the past directly influenced and caused the later tragedies a few decades later. Honestly IMO the series is so good EVERYONE should listen, particularly if you are interested in historical events and understanding the real ground truth.

Not really that complicated. The ground truth was that we stated we would not allow Saddam to invade. Desert Shield was months of us telling him not to invade. Id go as far as to say that its one of the most clear cut, straightforward military events in modern history, possibly human history. You can try to obfuscate it by saying the coalitions intentions or Saddams intention were unclear but thats only if you have a very bad translator for both sides.

@@poiu477 it is true the US had no alliance with kuwait, and its also true the US generally does not care which arab has issue with another. Neither of those statements consitutes an invitation, a blessing, an enticement, or an official guarantee of neutrality. Especially where one leader who is hostile to the west is about to seize the oil fields from a nation who is a business partner in the most blatant act of aggression for territorial gain since the founding of the UN. The coalition of UN nations did not wait until it was too late to snap back at Saddam either. His invasion commenced in August. Desert shield lasted until January. He had at least four months of UN speeches by american, british, french, german, australian, latvian, lichtensteinien, etc telling him that they would not allow him to engage in conquest of kuwait. ESPECIALLY since his stated goal was to destabilize western energy markets. He could have called it off and accepted that he acted too hastily to attack his weaker neighbor. He didnt, and got a taste of the military industrial complex. I watched this on the news as it was happening when I was in college. Only if you corrupt the timeline and delete four months of very clear hand waving and head shaking could the American position be considered some sort of political trap.
