Some 30 odd years ago a friend of mine (Rotterdam, the Netherlands) booked a room in the station/hotel of Hohtenn to have a first row seat for trainspotting. For me, it was Kandersteg, the favorite holiday destination of our family. Thank you so much!

That gives me ideas for travel once the Pandemic ban is lifted. I take these videos on one screen, and googlemaps on a 2nd screen, and follow the train from A to B. I did the video from Brig to Basle a while ago, and when I found this one in the other direction, I felt a familiarity with Kandersteg, and Hohtenn, and all the rest from the other direction. Thanks for the idea!

I doubt there are too many railways where the greatest danger of the driver being distracted is due to how spectacular the view out the windows is, but Switzerland seems to be one place where that's true. The trip over the mountain is of course really fantastic. Reminds me in some respects of the Tirano to St Moritz which is also brilliant.

@@lorirocks777 thank you very much from me too!! :0) I have one question for you, I hope it's not a too stupid one :-P From time 52'08" to time 52'16" approximately, you can see what looks like a second pair of rails, placed inside the two outer main rails, just like it was a short segment of a narrow-gauge railway (of course it's not the case!). What is their purpose? I remember to have seen similar pairs of inner rails, for a short lenght, also in other videos. I'm puzzled!! Thank you very much in advance! :0)

If the camera in use has automatic exposure then I doubt if you will be able to do anything to fix lens flare. The camera lens is still wide open after adjusting itself after entering the tunnel. Besides the effect lasts for just a couple of seconds. Why give yourself all the bother of trying to sort it out? If viewers don't like it - tough. I know why it happens and make allowances for that. I have to say that I was not mightily impressed with a rear-looking 2nd camera. Adding that perspective to the forward looking scene is only giving you extra work. That, by the way, was great. More Swiss railway footage, please!

Great Video of my favorite route through Switzerland. Question: You mention that most south bound trains use the tunnel, but that some still use the mountain route. How is that decided?
@lorirocks777
@lorirocks777 5 жыл бұрын
Trains without ETCS always use the mountain route. At certain times, it may even cost less for a railway company to order the mountain route. The other factor is capacity. The base tunnel is mostly single tracked. Trains forced to take the base tunnel include heavy trains without enough power / bank locomotive to take the steep route and to my knowledge, double decker passenger trains.

Why do some European countries allow graffiti? In the United States it is not considered art. It's considered an act of vandalism. Graffiti smeared across buildings and roadways is unattractive. There is no originality in the subject matter, composition or execution. Is it allowed because there is no money to remove it? I am surprised that the countries where I see graffiti are countries that, otherwise, are very, very clean and beautiful. So, why allow the unsightly blemish of graffiti to spoil the landscape?

In the place where I live graffiti is not allowed and is done away with ASAP. And, I am speaking of the majority of the state and surrounding areas outside the state as well. The only place I recall major graffiti was in the Blue Ridge Mountains at a place called Lovers Leap. It has a magnificent view but the rocks of the overlooked were defaced by a high school class that partied there at the close of their graduation.

I think it's debatable if graffiti is art or not. Yes it can be damaging to some parts of the city/country but i much rather look at interesting graffiti in a concrete jungle than just grey as far as one can look.
