Coyote? COYOTE? We don' need no steenking Coy-oh-tay! This was, hands down, the best quick and down-and-dirty on how to just-as-quickly turn the 300-hp 3V 'Stang engine -- which some people (mistakenly) thought was kind of a dog, let's be honest here, and I have just as much HP in my 2015 V6 3.7 AWD Taurus Police Interceptor sedan -- into a serious performer. Now I'm Jonesing for a 3V mid-aughts 'Stang because, for one, that'll certainly save some mean green in these here "uncertain economic times" and, Numero Due, it's not nearly as difficult as some people might think. Eh, I grew up watching my shade tree mechanic dad constantly tinker with the 289 small block in his '66 Mustang. Pretend for a moment we DO know what "butterflies" are...now, do we gain anything by adding both the delete plates AND the manifold? Increasing runner length and doing the manifold should increase volume but also velocity aka ramchargers yes?
@BrenspeedEngineering10 күн бұрын
I understand what you are asking. There would be a lot of issues trying that. Im not sure what would happen to the injector spray pattern. Not to mention the manifold not having the provisions to mount delete plates to it. Then you would also have a huge hood clearance issue raising the manifold higher as it is already a tight fit. Then where the cold air attaches the throttle body would be really high and hit the front of the hood also. Really never thought about it to be honest but those issues are off the top of my head.

Great video! If I didn't know better, I'd say the guy at Crane and you are the same person for the info given. I'm kinda thinking he watched your video and is suggesting the exact things to people. I was going to purchase thumpr cams next but he talked me into Detroit rockers. I installed 4.10s last month. Now my car won't shift correctly and feels like it lost lower. FMS said the computer can't keep up with the info from the new gears. I am now looking at a programmer but don't want to spend a ton just to change the axle ratio, especially when other things will need tuned and I lose the tune when retuned. If that makes sense, lol. I bought forscan but have no references for what all the codes mean so haven't been able to change anything but turning the traction control light off which seems to be the most common thing people post for forscan. I'll be doing other mods in the next year and wanted to order a programmer to do them all. But after talking with Crane, it seems I may have to just take it to a dyno shop. It's just that I'm not doing everything at once and need to drive the car as a daily. 2007 GT/CS.

So for the F150 4.6L 3V your intake and throttle body set up is different. Best bet is yes you can use the cams, tuner and tune, I believe you could do the underdrive pulleys, and then get a cold air specific to your F150 so it fits perfect. The mustang cold air would not work with your current throttle body.

Saw another video where the Dyno numbers were better with stock manifold throught the entire curve. They had at least 3 different sets of Dyno numbers. Reason is the butterflies cause air turbulence causing a better air fuel mix. He had the new FR intake, but put oem back on because of it. Just what I saw recently.

Gotta say I don't understand people who put in cams for sound. If you aren't putting in cams for power you're wasting your money. Great advice on cam selection of blower cam v NA cam too, btw. Richard Holdener and Engine Masters have proven over and over that any good cam is a good blower cam.

For the same reason people buy chin spoilers, wings, mufflers, anything that does not add power. They like the way it looks or sounds. In this case though, you are getting power and sound and yes some people just do it for the classic muscle car sound because they enjoy that. Thanks for watching!

This video is on 3V mustangs, not 2V, but thanks for watching!!! Also realize you can do 3 pulls in a row on a NA car and not change anything and 8-14 HP difference just because of temps and fluids thinning out. Thanks for the comment!
@Elver_Galarga_jugo Жыл бұрын
@@BrenspeedEngineering I can't imagine newer accessories are less efficient than older ones. That was 7whp across a 3 run average at the same coolant temps. The HP delta from highest to lowest was under 3whp between runs. So again, 7whp from not spinning them, you're telling me spinning accessories 25% slower yields more power than not spinning them at all? So how much power can be expected from not spinning them in the 3V? 30whp? Makes no sense.

Question for you on the drivetrain. On my 2007 Roush, I'm wanting to replace the two-piece drive shaft with the ford performance one-piece as shown in your video. The main reason for me is to eliminate the clunking noise/backlash in the rear end. My question is how much is too much backlash? When taking off in first or shifting into second at low rpm if I don't time my acceleration just right I get some clunking noise. Is this normal? I plan on changing the fluid as well although the car only has 23k miles. Thanks in advance. Great video
@BrenspeedEngineering2 жыл бұрын
Could just be the two piece clunking. You won't know until you get a one piece shaft. The FRPP one is a good piece. We normally stock them and use them a lot. Thanks for watching!

If you add the Boss 302 manifold or the Ford Racing manifold, will the strut tower brace need to be removed? If so, how does that affect ride quality? Thanks.
@BrenspeedEngineering2 ай бұрын
Well on a 3V, the Boss 302 will not fit as that is for a coyote. If you add an FRPP intake the brace normally will not fit. I do not see a difference in ride quality when I remove them and honestly I never run them on my own cars.

Great video. I live just up the road in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario (CANADA), but may venture down to the shop next summer to get some work done on my 08 GT/CS or 07 Roush 427. TWO QUESTIONS: 1) Our fuel is a bit pricier here so I'm wondering if the larger cold air intake and a tune would give more HP, torque, throttle response and still lead to better fuel economy (assuming I don't mash the throttle more to hear the improved sound) or should I stick with a smaller Roush or K&N if I need to consider fuel economy? 2) I currently have a flowmaster cat-back exhaust on it. If I got a cold air and tune a) could the tune factor in both the intake and exhaust, and b) if I were to add high flow cats, long tubes, intake manifold, cams, etc later on do I pay for each incremental tune I get from you or are tunes provided free once the tuner is purchased from you?
@BrenspeedEngineering3 ай бұрын
Several things. No tunes are free in the future but we do not charge full price. We charge a fraction of the price for new mods then email the tune. We have a link in our tuner section that will show you revision pricing. We do tune for CA 91 we are familiar with that. Yes a better CAI and tune adds power but we can tune for your octane so that is a good thing. Also we do not advertise or claim MPG up or down. Clients do report often an increase in MPG as well as decrease if they drive the car hard. Typically it is not a huge difference either way but everybody drives different......
@acushley13 ай бұрын
@@BrenspeedEngineering Thank you for the reply and additional information. Sounds like I'd be best off determining how far I want to go with mods, doing them all at once and getting the tune at that time rather than incrementally. Also good (for others) to know you tune for 91 octane as well, but I buy my fuel in the USA since I live on a border town and my gf is American. I'm gathering most of your clientele are running 92 and oriented for pure performance, rather than running 87 and orineted for best bang for buck performance. Will the larger diameter CAI NEED a tune or will there be benefits leaving it untuned like with a smaller diameter K&N, ROush, etc?

Yes if you are getting IMRC or butterfly codes this intake does not have them so you just get a tune for it/install it and then you have no butterfly codes if they are not working currently.

I love your videos, but they seem to evolve around a Paxton or Novi ( basically the same) supercharger. It's a good kit, but do you do On3 turbo kits? Base cost is almost 1/2 and gives as much or more hp , and sounds so much better than that whistle. Love the deep throaty sound.
@BrenspeedEngineering2 жыл бұрын
There is a reason we no longer do very many turbo's. Back on 06/07/08 we did a ton I mean Hellion largest Mustang turbo dealer. In the end the aftermarket turbo's are not so great for a daily which is what we mostly build. Seal leaks, all sorts of issues. Had enough issues we sort of left that world. Yes they work and yes we do still do some but it is nowhere near my choice. I have to install parts that hopefully last a long time and are little issue years later. That is not always the case but for sure the goal. Turbo's have always been problematic from a high volume install stand point so im not really into it. We really try to do more OEM quality low maintance type items when possible as most people want low maintance. And FYI in the end a cheap price typically means a cheap product. Not always, but that is a true statement most of the time and that's from 20+ years experience building these cars non stop. THANKS!
@terrywalker90922 жыл бұрын
@@BrenspeedEngineering Thank you for your assessment of the turbos. There are options you can ensure better performance. Like ceramic bearings heat blanket, etc. Most options are minimal. So someone like myself that drives 3000, miles a less every year on my 3v is more than likely ok? I know that you sell things that are the best performance for the long-term care of the car. I personally wouldn't recommend anything else. I believe that a supercharger ( even non intercoolered ) is a better choice in the long run. 😉

Love this content, my only question would be what do you recommend for rotating assemblies? Like if I wanted to stay NA. Would a high revving and high compression build be worth it?
@BrenspeedEngineering Жыл бұрын
We use Manley for rotating assemblies. I would contact them to see if you can get high compression pistons. We have not done that NA as everybody wants the built engine for supercharged applications and normally stay around 9.8 compression on pump gas. As far as worth it I would say higher compression NA is going to get you more power for sure but just not sure how much.
