Good review as always sir . about 1.5 years ago i went looking for my first ever good camera/full frame camera , on that one day i looked at canon offerings/ eos r/ rp also , nikon Z6/7 and Sony A73/ and 7R3 , at the end of the day , i had the Z7 and A73 in my hands , and i did actually like the look and feel of the Z7 more , but my gut told ( and a lot of research and reviews :) ) me go with the runs on the board model , one other thing at the time i thought was handy , and that was being able to still use the A73 while being charged by cable ...... which apparently a lot of cameras cannot .... or at least the ones i looked at ( probably a small thing , but old farts think of stuff like this :) ) . So i bought the A73 with tamron kit lens , i agree with all your comments , as a hobby shooter who does not get out as often as i`d like , it will still probably take me years to become totally familiar with the sony menu :) , but i too rarely use it or need it , and i`m still very happy with my A73 , and i have some pics im absolutely over the moon taken with the A73 ( i`m a bit partial to landscape and ocean/sunset type shots . Still very happy with my choice of the A73 .

Apart from the video vs photo, if you really value small size then go for Fuji xt-4. Everyone compares the body size but the lenses on Fuji system are so much smaller and lighter (and often cheaper) and it makes a big difference when you have one body and several lenses. But if that doesn't matter to you, then Sony is a great choice too.

I think this is a great camera. I also think the Olympus EM1 MK2 has the best IBIS out there. Because of the smaller Micro Four Thirds sensor is actually does better. Anyway, I really like your reviews of this camera. My two favorites right now is the A7III and the EM1 MK2.

If I'm shooting 75% video and 25% photo, would you still recommend this over the Fuji X-T4? I feel I'm going to miss the 10-bit, 4k60, 400 mbp on the fuji even if I have the "full-frame advantage". Lenses are lighter for that system as well. Just wish Sony had a 10-bit camera and I'd bite instantly

No, it is possible to shoot 4K 60p with crop using Sony IMX410 sensor, but A7 III cant do that. Only Panasonic S1 and S1H equipped with that sensor can shoot 4K 60p.

Hello, My A7iii works with IBIS ON when connected to Ronin S gimbal. I use the setting "USB connection" set to "Mass storage".

@@TheHybridShooter Update: it works with IBIS when I use it with the optional DJI MCC Multi cable, and with this cable the wheel on the gimbal acts like a zoom wheel. When I use the regular MCC-B cable the camera will only work with PC remote setting, so without IBIS :(, and in this case the wheel on the gimbal acts like a focus wheel.

Thank you so much! When I found the price of the Tamron 70-180 mm is 2/3 of the GM 100-400 mm, I ordered the GM yesterday. But it was the last store with the old price of the GM, as the other stores have increased the price with 30%, from 29.000 N.Kr. to 38.000 N.Kr. So even if I regret my purchase, I guess I can sell it for 33.000 N.Kr. in autumn, and still make a surplus of 4.000 N.Kr. But who will be able to buy new gear in the coming years, with these horrible new prices? For me I used a whole year to adjust the menus of the a7III to my shooting style! But now as I got used to my setup, it goes automatically, and I never think about the menus anymore. I only shot with my Tamron 28-75 mm and GM 24 mm until recently. But when I saw the prices on camera gear skyrocketing in Norway because of the corona virus, I could not sleep and bought the Sigma 14-24 mm and the GM 100-400 mm in panic. Already the prices of these lenses are out of my reach, and the 24 mm GM has increased with 4000 N.Kr. as well. For the future I guess I can only afford cheap third party lenses, like the Viltrox 85 mm, which unfortunately not has a retailer in Norway still. Too the a7III got me into Capture One, as it with it follows 50% off the price of this software. I didn't learn Adobe, and now I got used with Capture One, after a little more than one years of use. I think I got all the gear I need now just before the price skyrocketed on everything. I might get the Viltrox if they get a retailer in Norway, and then no new gear for me. If my camera brakes I will definitely buy a new a7III!!!

I expect the exact opposite, manufacturers will have to bring out more affordable cameras and lenses, because photographers and filmmakers will have less money to spend. There is no valid information about the the A7 IV, so I can't help you there. If you want something new, you can get a new lens, battery grip or some other accessories.

Save for the A7 IV. It will have much better AF (Real Time AF). Not sure about any other upgrades, but expect the same excellent sensor as the III and a body just like the A7R IV (better grip, better buttons, better sealing). I had the A7 II, and now the A7 III, and the III is night and day compared to the II. A massive difference that's hard to understand until you actually use the III. There's a reason it's still one of the best selling, if not THE best selling, FF cameras today, 2 years after launch. Don't expect such a huge jump in the IV, but coming from the II, it will feel like you jumped ahead in time by 10 years. ;)

@@BlueBomberTurbo the a7iv doesn't exist yet, but it will bring only minor upgrades... (Not like from the 2nd and 3rd gen.) A better body (like r4 probably) it's not enought to justify the expense. The af of a7iii it's already, almost perfect... The unique cons of the, if we really want to find one, it's the display quality. It's not bad, it's just ok.

Those are mostly stills oriented cameras. For video use, the line skipping would be a weakness, although they are still capable video cameras.

The Hybrid Shooter disagree. D850 has better continuous AF with fast moving subjects, sports, wildlife. I’d also rather have the D850 in studio settings because of the ovf. I’d rather have A7R III for street/travel, certain portraits where eye af is useful and video. The Sony is smaller and lighter but you sacrifice ergonomics, build - weather seal/rear screen quality and battery life. Both have great lens selection to choose from. Both are great, depends on use situation for which is better

@Marc Nappier I disagree about that continuous AF and I would also much prefer EVF in studio settings because of the live exposure preview, focus magnification and so on... I also prefer A7 ergonomics over FF DLSRs because they are just huge and cumbersome. In my opinion, the A7R III is superior camera, so in this case I will universally recommend it over D850. You are free to have different opinion of course.

The a7iii has served me very well since its release. i've now paired it with a second body, the a6600. Very happy with their performance. The a7iii will still be a strong competitor in the coming years.

That is very good combination same mount for both sensors is a big advantage of the E-mount.

Thanks for the 2 year review. I believe that the Sony A7Rmk3 is probably the most under-rated camera on the planet. Same form factor as the 7mk3 but a much better EVF and a reasonable amount of resolution. The A7Rmk4 is over the top in resolution to the point that people have to upgrade their entire post processing hardware for thousands of dollars more. If I was going to buy a Sony FF camera, it would be the A7Rmk3. It is probably the most balanced of all the Sony cameras in the hybrid camera arena, again in my opinion. Again, I am older with weak eyesight that demands a better EVF than you do, be glad you are still young!! Take care of yourself!!

A7R III is a great stills camera and very capable video camera, but I wouldn't give up full sensor 6K - 4K video and 693 point AF, so I still prefer A7 III for hybrid use.

@@TheHybridShooter Ah, see, different use cases as well. I am a 98% stills shooter, mostly in daylight with mostly static subjects!! My biggest worry is when to use or not use my circular polarizer filter. One other item that really caught my interest was when you compared the size of the S1 with the A7. For some reason, this large of a difference had never really struck home with me. Same with the difference between the A7 and the GH5, which is interesting because the Sony is actually a little smaller in some respects. I can see why the A7mk3 is popular given what it can do at the price point it is at. The A7Rmk3 solves the eyesight problem with the EVF but the menus for me is a showstopper. Keep up the great content, I read and enjoy every one whether I agree or not!!!

I personally don't care about the crop mode, so I am not complaining. I want to use full sensor and get the best possible video quality, which is the case A7 III, but not with A7R III. People are just often asking about the crop mode, so I wanted to mention that.

I keep wanting to swap for better low light performance and access to sigma glass, but the price of the swap is just daunting to me. I got a g85 with a portrait lens, standard length, standard zoom and a macro lens for 470 eur. Sooo much in such a small package.

I own it, i love it. My Gear is: - sony 24 105 f4 g - tamron 17 28 2.8 - godox flash - joby gorillapod - some filters ------ Light, compact and great quality. In my wish list; - 50 1.8 Sony - 85 1.8 Sony - 35 1.8 Sony - 100-400 4.5 - 5.6 sony or other brand (if they decide to produce it).

haha pretty cool , I went for the same lenses. Tamron wide-angle for panoramas and the Sony 25-105 for travels. I have the 85 1.8 for portraits and it's pretty nice: small and sharp! I recently got a used 35 2.8, you may wanna consider that. It has quite some vignetting and it's not too bright, but I don't think there's a better lens for street photography. I use it when I want to go around with very little gear and when I have that lens on, the a7 iii becomes like a compact camera. Nobody would notice it. :)

I have never had any overheating issues, not even in tropical climate. It has 30 min. limit because of the UE camcorder tax that was effective back in 2018.

Just sold my A7iii with the Tamron 28-70 and the Sony 70-200 f4 . Specs wise and autofocus nothing comes close at this price range, but the ergonomics, menu, and EVF were bad enough for me that I had to sell it . I was never excited to pick it up and go out and shoot and it felt very cheap. Trying out the panasonic S1 after loving the way I feel when i shoot with the GH5 . S1 might be seen as a more expensive downgrade but at the end of the day if a camera doesn't make you happy when you pick it up then it's probably not the right system for you (Sony in my case). Again Sony specs are insane for the price especially with the Tamron, but ergonomics wise not the greatest feeling system.

I guess that it depends on your preferences. I personally don't like the ergonomics of the S1 simply because it is so huge and cumbersome, so I still prefer A7 III. GH5 is probably the best compromise, but it isn't full frame.

I will really miss the autofocus of Sony definitely a downgrade going to Panasonic autofocus system. 2020 has a lot of options which is a good problem to have for us shooters
