Lisa, what about 3 years later? Would you still recommend this camera at $2,000 USD? It would be a pretty huge upgrade for me as I'd be moving on from the Sony A6000. I only have the A6000 kit lenses, so I know I would have to get some full frame lenses as well. I'm seriously thinking about spending the $ to get a proper full frame and a couple of prime lenses, but I don;t know if this is the camera for me just yet. I do however like the price.

I didn’t have you pegged as a photographer, so I wasn’t expecting much more than a repeat of all the specs. Great job, I just picked one up myself, huge jump even from the a7ii, which I had.

Hey Lisa, if you've done all your research you'll inevitably end up at the Sony A7iii or one of the variants. I actually considered the Canon 6d Mii and almost pulled the trigger (egads!!!). Then the Fuji lineup had me seduced with all the glorious dials and the jpegs with their film stock secret sauce. I just hadn't done enought research. When I finally focused in on the Sony A7iii everything became clear and I realized that for the discerning photographer there really is no competition to the Sony. Just look how you beam just holding it 😁👍.

I’ve been shooting with this camera for a couple of weeks now - it’s awesome! I still have frustrations with Sony’s menu and lack of native lenses (Sigma and Tamron are releasing options soon) but overall, I’m loving the versatility the A73 offers. It’s also the first camera I’ve ever purchased brand new; I have no regrets! Nice review, Lisa!

Very good review, Lisa. I am still waiting for my A7iii to arrive. I have already bought an aftermarket external dual battery charger for $18. I also have the Sigma MC-11 adaptor for Canon EF Lenses to Sony E-Mount. It reportedly does a very good job with autofocus. It is currently selling for only $149US at B&H.

Great review! There were a few missteps however. There is in fact an after market Z battery available via Amazon (by Wasabi). The Sony retails for $70 while the Wasabi retails for $49. And you don't have to spend $400 on an adaptor to get AF and Eye AF. The Sigma Mc-11 does both for about $200 (used). You can also get that on Amazon. You'd be hard pressed to find the difference in autofocus speeds with the MC-11 compared to native lenses. More specifically with newer lenses. Older lenses, debatable. This is specifically talking to Canon. Nikon doesn't fair as well with adaptors due to the way their lenses focus.

Really nice review, with a lot of sample pictures vs reading a spec sheet as others do. Subscribed! I was researching for a telephoto lens for my a6300 (had the 55-210 but sold it as I did not fancy it). I am torned between the 70-300 and the 70-200f4, I know the differences -constant aperture and internal zoom, etc vs a 100mm extra reach; not sure how they are performing in real life, I understand they are about the same in sharpness and overall performance; I've seen you have used the 70-300 and got good results, I think I will go with that for wildlife casual shooting (it is a hobby and not for professional use, as I would go for 100-400 with the 1.4x extender, but oh well, it is out of my budget). But now I am thinking that I should get also the FF A7III..oh gosh, another 2k...but probably it will be a better pair for this lens than the a6300 in terms of the picture quality, not to speak of the lens body ratio. What's your opinion on that? Thanks, keep up the good work!cheers

Articulate, knowledgeable, you get people up to speed, you seem to know how to have fun, and you like to get out, what's not to like? As great as this video is, one thing you touch on, but don't get into much in this video, is switching from accessing the media captured on the A 7 3 to its webcam feature, and back. Both processes are relatively simple to make happen, but it's not so straightforward with how to get either function set up, and both have become essential for digital cameras, and Sony hasn't really provided a great, easy solution for how to switch from one to the other, let alone simply making the media accessible when the camera is used as a webcam.

The sales seem to be off the charts. I just don’t know how many amateurs really make that many prints. Then it’s a question of whether the crop frame cameras are good enough. But this camera has been a lot of fun to watch. Wasn’t there a time when super high resolution painting realism was the norm and then everyone went to impressionism? This is sort of a look.

C'mon Lisa, don't make me regret even more not snagging one of those for myself on the recent trip to Japan... xD Honestly though, even if it is cheaper than professional grade cameras, I still couldn't justify buying one... because I'm not actively using a standalone camera for anything right now. I might regret it if I get a job that requires one, but there were other priorities on the trip, so there's that. My poor abandoned Canon T2i and glasses will tell you. :P But yes, I'd definitely recommend at least testing one of those beasts (which I could in stores) for those who are looking for alternatives, or looking into entering the world of photography. Very good entry level option, not because it's dirty cheap, but because of how much it offers for the money. I'm not too sure I'd recommend for people going on trips wanting to get only family photos and whatnot though... of course, a camera like that takes waaaaaay better photos than even the best of smartphone cameras, which are taking great shots by themselves these days, but you gotta consider workflow, management, care and all those things that you usually don't consider when taking simple smartphone snaps. It's part of the reason why I ended up not buying the Sony... I was traveling with another 7 family members and simply did not have the time required for backup, editing and even taking time for better shots. It was rushed, I had to plan and pay attention on the family and not on taking photos. If I was going by myself then I'd definitely have gotten one. Be aware though, it's not going to be "only" 2000 bucks. This is why I ended up saving the money for other stuff. I know enough of photography and of myself as a photographer that I'd be looking more towards some 4 grant or more because lenses, a grip, class 10 sd cards, a good case, etc. Still... it really is an incredible camera. Took everyone by surprise too, it's been quite a very long time since I've seen such a consensus on how good a deal one camera is...

Hi Lisa, nice and good detail with Sony A73 review. While you have invested those good lens-a-year, any plan showcasing lens letting lights to A73 sensors comparing with similar range of prime or zoom lens from other make either with metabone or none costly one? Honestly, this is not price so "affordable" for Nikon D300 owner here using 18-200 mm.
