I have a suggestion for this list. Dexter Lumis for king of the ring. Now follow me for a second. He wins and finally speaks. He's eloquent and kind but the instant things don't go his way he snaps. Drew winning KotR would be nice, as would a heel run (provided he gets some meaningful wins), but I'm still holding out hope for a shift to Raw at some point where he can go after the US Title & become a Grand Slam Champion. I think more should be done with the idea of Grand Slam championships: it has an air of exclusivity that few achieve, & it also elevates the midcard titles to being something more meaningful.

I agree with most of this list. If we go to the original KOTR tournament, the winner was an upper middle-card wrestler of who you needed to watch in the next year. IE: Bret Hart, Brock Leaner, Kurt Angle, Edge, Stone Cold winning their one of their first WWE titles within that time frame. Keep it a mid-card tournament. With Gable, Gunther, Gargano, Sami, IO, Dakota, and even Liv using the win to elevate themselves in the company. If the prize of the KOTR and QOTR was a title shot at SummerSlam that is a great incentive to include former champions. Charlotte, Bayley, Drew, Becky and Bianca don't need the win or a push. However, if the winner gets a title shot, that could put KOTR and QOTR on the same level of importance as the Royal Rumble.

My picks for KOTR and QOTR are Gunther and Raquel Rodriguez. Gunther is pretty much self explainitory - he's riding high right now and WWE may want to keep his momentum going by letting him either win the KOTR tournament or win the MITB ladder match. If he wins the KOTR it will also have his Imperium mates - Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci, his knights of sorts. And as for Raquel - she's been languishing on SmackDown as a bland happy-go-lucky babyface ever since her arrival on the main roster. So why not give her a heel push by winning the QOTR tournament?

Sami and Kevin have both been so good, they could and should be KOTR. BUT, I really do think he and Kevin should hang around the tag division. Once the Bloodline collapses, we need to keep the tag division nice and strong. Having two legitimate main eventers like KO & Sami at the top for a while will do that. My pick, a returning Tomasso Ciamp. The guy needs something to make an impact on the main roster. For Queen, I want Nikki Cross. She makes the most of her minutes. Every time she's on screen, she does little things to make it engaging. She's earned it.

I think you focussed about half the list on people that are just the step above the traditional KOTR level. I think Chelsea would be DYNAMITE, Dakota, Liv, or Candice could benefit. Doudrop or Raquel could be good. I wouldn't have Drew or Finn in there... Jey if they're goiing HEAVY storyline, sure... otherwise I'd add King Woods, of course, to the tournament.
