Just replaced my 2000 Civic coupe with a 2012 CR-V after having a baby. Needed a mom mobile as coupes and kids don't mix too well. I'm really enjoying the ride, space, styling and leather seats. The cargo space is outstanding. It has plenty of acceleration for my taste and makes me want to go out and do things! My husband thinks it's "relaxing" to ride in.

A nice laidback review making some great points regarding driving, refinement and ride. I have been looking to get a new vehicle and this is the one for me. The review doesn't show the way the seats fold and the size of the trunk etc. but I can watch a review that covers this. I have had CRVs and RAV 4s and I think the CRV definitely is better for me. better build and more upscale. Thanks.

Thanks for the compliments. I hope you find just what you are looking for. This was one of our very first reviews. We definitely have improved (I think) since we filmed this. I typically try to make sure we show off the storage in the back in more detail now. This usually includes messing with the seats. We recently did a 2012 Pilot that's related to the 2012 CR-V in this review. You may like that video as well. Thanks a ton for watching!

Hope you get one you love. If shopping used we recommend 2012-2014s. In 2015 they switched to a cvt transmission that is much less enjoyable to drive. Thanks for watching!

Hi, love this review. I'm looking at a 2012 CRV AWD Touring model with 91,000 miles for $14,300 USD. Has all the maintenance records included and is in pristine condition. Seem like a reasonable price?
@DriveItOut
@DriveItOut 2 жыл бұрын
Seems like an ok price for these days if it is in good shape. When used car prices are up it makes alot of sense to buy something with a good reputation for lasting a long time. These 2012-2014 CR-Vs definitely have that good reputation. Once 2015 comes around the CR-V got a CVT transmission and becomes less desirable. Good luck! Thanks for watching!

CVTs are not desirable. They don't last as long as traditional torque converter automatics. They also drive in a sluggish and squishy kind of way, and tend to be quite a bit louder than regular automatics. Most have a droning sound. The reason cvts are common now is because they are slightly more fuel efficient. But you sacrifice driving feel and longterm reliability. If you drove a traditional automatic and a cvt automatic back-to-back the cvt would feel like it's put together with rubber bands. It's obviously not, but it feels that way in comparison. This is why I tend to only recommend CRVs 2014 and older. Thanks for watching!

I Damn sure hope they don't go to a cvt transmission. that cars live would be cut in half. No point in such a great engine if it's can't use after 100k miles.

They switched to CVT in 2015. I often recommend the 2012-2014 crv for this reason.

The newer honda cvts are great as long as you keep up with maintenance and dont modify them. The only recorded problems have been with the 2.0t accords with people who tune them. Also, suprisingly subarus and toyotas cvts have been solid as well. The only reason cvts have a bad name is cause of nissan. I personally will never own any car without gears(manual or paddle shifters), but being a mechanic, i see no problem with well built cvts.
@DriveItOut
@DriveItOut Жыл бұрын
The dislike for cvt's is twofold. Reliability is questionable, but also they tend to provide a less desirable driving experience. I agree with you that Nissan has been the biggest contributer to cvt's poor reputation. You definitely hit the nail on the head there. But, in addition to questionable longevity of cvt's, the operation of a vehicle equipped with a cvt can be unsettling. They are always hunting for the proper ratio. This makes them feel very unsettled when driving them. They are like driving with a spastic and nervous passenger. They are especially annoying when pushing a car hard. Subaru seems to allow you to hit fixed ratios with the paddle shifters on cars like the WRX to mimic a real automatic. This helps a little. But CVTs still tend to be more noisy and rough to drive when pushed. My understanding is they don't handle power or punishment well. Honda keeps the power down to make cvts last longer. And, I believe Toyota is starting to equip their cvt's with a fixed 1st gear to handle torque on take-off. This is because cvt's on their own tend to be more fragile. The CVT provides slightly better fuel economy so some manufacturers force them on us. Then we have to deal with the less desirable driving experience and the reality of them not lasting as long as traditional autos. I applaud manufacturers like Mazda who refuse to use cvts and keep their quality high. As a mechanic, how much more often would you say cvt's seem to meed serviced as opposed to torque converter autos?
@adamdistortion8810
@adamdistortion8810 Жыл бұрын
@DriveItOut on a cvt, i would change the fluid every 3 to 4 oil changes, so about 20k. This will keep them running well for as long as you keep the car and drive like a normal human. It is tedius, but on most cars, i do that anyways. Clean fluid in everything is best always. I totally agree with your conclusion as far as how they feel, not as nice as a regular auto. Toyota hybrid cvts are awesome in my opinion though, they dont use belts like normal cvts, they actually have the 2 electric motors in the trans driving the gears. This does cause them to be alot more expensive if they do go bad, but as long as you keep the fluid redish, they will treat you well. And of course, we all know toyota quality is as good as it gets, so i have yet to see one go bad. I mean, youd probably go through 2 to 3 sets of hybrid batteries before you run into tranmissiom problems on a prius 😅 and that like after 250k miles or more.

Thats good info. I always lean on mechanics unique view into different vehicles and how they are holding up. CVTS are a different tech that alot of people simply don't know anything about. Sounds like you are like me though. I like shifting my own gears.
