There is direct injection on 2 strokes engines. Why it's not a standard thing nowadays ?

A few reasons. Direct injection requires MUCH higher fuel pressure and a much more complex injector than regular EFI. Both of those things add cost and weight. It also means that oil inection is mandatory because premix no longer works; more cost and weight. And, because sophisticated direct fuel injectors don't like to be fouled with carbon spooge, that oil injection usually needs to be efficient, feeding bearings etc directly rather than just spraying oil into the intake port. It's an expensive set of technologies to add to an engine that most people value for its light weight and simplicity. And for all that trouble, the gains compared to a carb are mostly in emissions and fuel economy, rather than power. Lastly, most of the technology and know-how for two-stroke direct injection is held by marine and snowmobile companies like Mercury and Rotax, so most motorcycle companies would have to either develop their own system, which takes outrageous time and money, or pay to license it from one of these other companies. All that said, direct-injected two-strokes really are the better mousetrap.

+JETZcorp Thank you. I know that direct injection gas cars run at about what were running idi diesel,wich is 130 150 bars. It's not that big,it could be used on 4 strokes quite easily.

michaelovitch Yeah, the technology isn't really a,problem, it's all cost and weight. A fuel injection system running 150 bar, isn't that complicated, until you compare it to a gravity-feed hose into a carb. Lol.

+JETZcorp Yes. They could at least use it on road bikes,and massively on cars,it could be a huge improvement for emission and economy. It's like if the manufacturers always kept 20 years of reserve for improvement. my 1980's bmw bike have fuel injection,while it was mass equipped in 2000 something on all brands ! It's crazy. The same for honda ,if i remeber correctly,wich produced a fuel injection system in the early 80's but never sold it. When you think direct gas and diesel direct injection was used in 1912 already ! and massively during ww2

I'd wait if I were you, KTM is working on a direct injection setup for thier future two strokes. They are the best handling bikes on the market right now as well, they're also noticeably lighter than this 250lb beast.

To any of the new 300rr owners, Does the title specifically say "for offroad use only" or is it titled like a regular motorcycle? Or does it only come with an MSO? this seems easy to get a plate for as long as you don't have the title restriction. Trying my best to not buy an 300exc.

yes they are reknown to be able to ride them on the road. I got mine registered over here in the uk. Absolute animal and have not regretted having one of these over a ktm

hello, I bought this bike and I'm looking for the solution to a problem I noticed. In the maintenance manual it says that when you start the bike you should see turned on the mixer oil light on the bottom left of the odometer for 10 seconds as a "check". To me this light does not come on. I have read that not all models do. I would like to know if this warning/check light comes on for you. I hope you answer. thank you

+confettihunterminus1 Depends on your state. California is a big no because it's 2-stroke. Otherwise "This being an enduro bike, the 300 RR comes stock with a brake/tail light, street-legal Michelin enduro tires, a horn, a speedometer, a running light, a headlight and a high beam. The lights are all controlled by the master switch that is good quality and nicely designed. The only things that it doesn’t have are turn signals, but the control switch is already wired up for them." You'd also have to add a mirror.
