I'm impressed that a young man with your experience with sport bikes can appreciate a Harley. I have a Road King. There are faster bikes, there are other bikes that do other things well, but a Harley is fun. Fun at any speed. Isn't this what is all about? Gerry in Calgary.

@@javitotitoHopefully you’ve gotten your dream bike. I’m sure that dream has moved to another bike by now. We always need a “dream” bike to strive for. Older you get, the more bikes you get, the harder it is to have that feeling. So you put a big bore kit in what was your dream lol

DukeOfDC - My last bike was a Wee Strom, a bit under powered but fun as could be. Did some traveling on it, 20k miles in 5 years, not really all that much. If I go back to that I'm not sure what I'd get? I may wait till the 2017 VStrom 1000 comes out or take a look at the Tenere? One bike I've always admired is the R1200RT. I plan to go test 2013 and 2017 variants next week. Lots of choices and shopping it's the best part..

Just a note - not sure if it has already been said, but the Milwaukee-Eight 107 is not a redesign, it is a NEW design. I test rode a 2017 Ultra Limited and I really liked it. The price is a little steep for me, so I'll keep riding my Kawasaki Nomad 1600 for now, but Harley has done a really nice job with the engine and suspension. I wish they would stretch the frame a little because I always feel like I am jammed into the gas tank on a Harley, and I wish their heel-toe shifter had more room for my foot like my Nomad does. I hope the engine will be durable and dependable. Time will tell.

Hey there, this may sound rediculous but if i want to ride a harley like this in the future, what bike should i learn to ride on? I mean there are so many different types of bike and idk if a starter bike has to mimic what you want in the future and i cant really find any info on what to start on. Any help would be brilliant, thanks
@DukeOfDC
@DukeOfDC 7 жыл бұрын
Not ridiculous at all! I think you should start on a harley! Maybe a Sport 750, or something a little more powerful but lighter than a full on road glide or street glide. Weight will play an important role in learning things easily and more importantly, correctly.

The BMW K1600 is probably not a good bike for Harley fans to compare their bikes to. The K1600 has a six cylinder engine which stands at the cutting edge of German engineering and harnesses the benefits of years of modern motorsport R&D. The BMW also puts out 160 hp and 129 ftlbs of torque. To be fair to both bikes, Dyno runs have placed the hp of the BMW at 143 hp (160 advertised) and the Milwaukee 8 at 81 hp (none advertised). That's a massive difference. So it's all about the torque ? Well the K1600 has 129 ftlbs, the Milwaukee 8 has 111 ftlbs. So, much less hp and less ftlbs while weighing 62 pounds more than the BMW. Thats quite something since the BMW is larger and has a lot more technology built in. You however don't have to be a physics major to make those sums and thd impact they have on rideability. So why is it important to a rider that abides by all the rules ? Power to weight ratio does not only effect 0 to 60 times or top end, it has a significant impact on drive quality. If it did not, you would have the same drive feel from a Toyota Corolla as you would have in a BMW M3. I liked your review, you are knowledgeable however I get the feeling a little biased. The HD Streetglide is nowhere near the motorcycle that the BMW K1600 is. Better to compare the HD to Indian or Victory to be honest. Steer away from the BMW as a comparator. But I guess that you do really, actually know that. Harley Davidson is an American icon (no argument there), and the innuendo of Harley Davidson ownership are the two and only things the Harley has over the BMW. Just keeping it real.
@mikejohnson7202
@mikejohnson7202 7 жыл бұрын
Yes although you missed his point. The BMW K1600 is not as fun to ride as the 107 Street Glide. In other words German engineering can not compete and that is why Harley Davidson of Germany is so popular.

No doubt. And let's just be straight here. I don't hate Harleys, nor those who choose to buy them however they appeal to a different market for a different reason. The BMW K1600 stands at the forefront of current touring motorcycle technology with regards to a number of elements influencing ride quality and even if you dispute that, it can't be denied that it develops much more power and weighs less. We all know what that brings right ? No physics lessons required ? It's not a competitor advisable for Harley fans to compare their bike to. Rather steer well clear of that comparison.

I just can't get past the whole lifestyle thing. I was out yesterday and the perfect example of it was going on. Two guys on Street Glides (basically the Camry of bikes in New England, they are everywhere), both with open headers blasting away to annoy everyone around them. The whole "I'm an angry drunk and I'm here to piss everyone off around me" just isn't the image for me. Southpark had it dead on. They've definitely improved the bikes but the closest I've ever come to owning an HD was when Buell had the XB12X years back.

they don't do it to annoy everyone around them, they do it because they enjoy it. they aren't hurting anyone so no one has the right to try and take that away. if you want to enjoy something, go enjoy it. stop worrying about what other people do or think, focus on your own life

Harley stock been in a steep nose dive last 7 years. People are fed up pouring money into these engines which are designed to fail. People not paying 20 to 30 thousand dollars for new bikes... I predict this company will be bankrupt inside of 5 years from now..... We have access to company balance sheets, showing the company way over extended on existing loans and credit to the tune of almost 500 million dollars. This motor company not have that kind of cash to pay back..........Is only a matter of time now, before banks start calling these notes back over-due for payment............

Hi from one dc rider to another. Just FYI this is a street glide special (same bike I have) just so people are surprised that the standard street glide doesn't have the gps or touch screen. The standard also doesn't have abs or linked brakes ( I think). Also the flake colors(they are called hard candy flake colors) like this and my purple (mystic purple)only come on the special. I love the new engine. They also upgraded the suspension from 2016 to 2017. I was coming from a 2011 Harley softail deluxe and it took me a little getting used to BUT I love this bike. Also not sure why neutral was blinking it shouldn't do that. When you are neutral on a harley it is a solid light. And the cracking when you turn it off is a thing.

Hello, I am from Fort Worth, Texas. I have the standard and you are correct that it doesn't come with ABS, but ABS is and option for $795 dollars. The bike does come standard with linked brakes though. The only other difference is that while the security system comes standard on the street glide special, it is a $395 dollar option on the street glide standard. Both the street glide special and street glide standard are the same bikes across the board except for the noted options. Both are great bikes.
