This is Honda's ultimate replacement for displacement. Using a smaller much more fuel efficient engine and turbos instead of vtec. Can't say I won't miss the vtec rush, but the car overall becomes more refined and usable for everyday.

well there was a 2 year hiatus and while there is a a new engine and has more torque and better gas, it has the same HP and they took out V-Tec (the SI was literally known for its VTEC). I would rather have a detuned Type R 2.0l engine in it that a supped up 1.5t.

Craig Cole I love your reviews and this one is no exception. I just had to say though that I think it is great that this car is fuel efficient although in my humble opinion that is not what I am looking at when looking at an Si or any other car in this class. It is a sporty car. If you want mileage by the EX-T or another comparable car. Also, the fact that you would prefer a GTI is telling considering they have been out since 2012 and this Si is technically not even available to find in dealers yet (at least I can not)

Why is the volume knob such a big deal. You have a volume control where you're left hand holds the steering wheel.
@oldtwins7 жыл бұрын
exactly. in my accord I can count the number of times I've used the knob. the steering wheel controls are very effective and quick in Hondas. So much safer to keep your hands on the wheels. I guess it's the same people whining about it are the ones who demand to have more cup holders and food trays installed on their dash so they can eat a five course meal while driving on the road.
@waseemsells53787 жыл бұрын

I really wanted to hold out on the Si but I ended up getting a '17 Focus ST. Its starting price is about the same as the Si but it can climb to 30k if you're not careful. But there's something about 270 ft lbs of torque (252hp) that just pulls this car with such authority and vigor, it's easy to forget its "shortcomings". Anyway, I'm looking forward to an Si/GTI/ST comparo soon!

Take off the rose colored glasses for a second. First off this car is probably underrated from the factory. It also has more power, more luxury features, better fuel economy, better safety features, weighs less and costs almost 10k less than a Prelude when you factor in inflation. The Prelude was a great car but not really when you consider it cost 36k (in todays dollars) and weighed over 3000 lbs (2001 SH).
@gleekthageek7 жыл бұрын
John Pang I think you are right and they already have tuning programs to wake up the car a lot already and just released. Also all these people complain about the hp don't realize that a good car with less hp is better on insurance than per say the high hp advertised car, so I think Honda underrates some of there cars to help you save money in the long run too which is nice. Because who wants to get ripped off on car insurance when it's not necessary.

the vague clutch complaint has become an journalistic trope. We're in the era of light weight flywheels and hydraulic clutches. take a spin in anything with a cable actuated clutch and you will forgive any amount of seat time it takes to be accustom to such a seamless clutch pedal. A slave cylinder typically only extends about an inch to 1.5" and it's not as if each gear grabs at a different location. I actually think it is much easier to feather the clutch than past Honda's that had excessively high clutch pedals. No more having to actually lift your leg during gear changes.

After Honda made us wait soooo long for this redesign, it would be very hard for this car to NOT be a little bit of a disappointment. it doesnt really matter. Honda specifically made each model/trim of the civic as a bait and switch to lead you to the next trim level up, at no point giving you exactly what you want and no more than you need, at the price you can deal with. This SI is very much bait for people to wait and get the type R civic; and spend more and more money. Big props to this reviewer for not kissing Honda's butt and 100% raving over the car in general (Honda pro Jason), and the clutch more specifically. "Lower base price than many of its rivals". Yes ! Lower base price than its "closest" rival, the Honda Civic sport touring hatchback. Funny how that worked out, right Honda ?

So they slap a turbo on it, but you still have to rev it to 3500 rpm to get a response out of it like a naturally aspirated engine? So what's the point, higher repair bills?
@B1ackTheRipper7 жыл бұрын
More torque down low my friend. Easier to drive in traffic.
@mountainhobo7 жыл бұрын
More torque down low would have meant response at lower rpms, but Craig clearly said, until it hits 3500 rpm, nothing happens. So apparently the torque curve is not what you think it is.
@skirmich7 жыл бұрын
The torque curve even when its in the middle-high range is still shit loads better than any of the previous Si´s Engines which means once you hit the 3500RPM it will pull and leave behind any other Civic except for the Type-R. You seem to forget this car is not a commuter, This is meant for Track-Sport duty and last time I checked you will be riding the high end of the RPM in those situations.
@maximus94017 жыл бұрын
If you look at dyno sheets of regular Civic turbos, you can see that it's a progressive build, then flat torque all the way across. There's a good bit torque down low. The difference being that the Si turbo impeller is set up for higher rpm flow (9 blades versus 11) so it has to give up just a bit down low. There's still plenty torque though, it's not bad at all
@crispinsugita93987 жыл бұрын
Previously, you had to rev it to about 5,000 with Vtec.

There is always a common misconception about FWD under steer. These so called 'sports' cars under-steer because their front suspension does not keep the wheels perpendicular to the road when cornering (i.e. the front wheels do not gain negative camber with body roll). The under-steer is not due to the front tyres being overpowered by the engine's torque. A very simple fact, which most motoring journalists simply do not understand.

Very odd that a sporty car with a turbo engine has no torque. Turbo engines are usually pretty torque-aggressive. I expect that if it's got no guts under 3500rpm, it's going to feel a lot slower than its full potential in daily driving. So, it probably won't be as much fun commuting as it could be. If it's only fun out on a track, it seems like Honda missed the mark to me as most Civic Si will be driven predominantly on the street. That's a pretty big flaw. How does it compare to the likes of the Elantra Sport and Sentra Turbo? I'm hearing the Elantra Sport drives great. It's also cheaper and better warrantied.
