Thank you Toyota for continuing on focusing on what matters most in a vechile. Reliability, Reliability, Reliability. I dont care if a truck has twin turbo what good is it when its broken down on the side of the road. And if a truck gets 2 miles more per gallon. Id rather have a safer and more reliable truck that looks amazing and fit and trim is second to none. Repairs cost more than gas I will take the reliable one. Former dodge, ford , chevy money pit owner.

Tony Bertalan These 2nd gen Tundras break down quite a bit too. Just go look at the Tundra forums out there. $1000+ air injection pump failures, valve covers that leak oil, center support bearing vibrations, rear diff failures, slipping transmissions, water pump failures, rear main seal leaks, electrical gremlins, vibration from front diff, bad wheel bearings, frame rot, etc.

I have been a loyal toyota truck owner for years, 2 Tacomas, t-100 supercharged, 01 tundra limited, and now my 08 tundra double cab. I agree they aren't getting any prettier and it dosent have all the fancy gadgets but when your getting over 350,000 to 1,000,000 miles on a proven drive train why change it? it's 2017 and the only thing I have replaced on my tundra was the radiator and that was thanks to a metal rod kicked up by another vehicle. Auburn gear makes a great limited slip for these truck's and it works great. just my opinion.

I just hit 900 000km's last week on my 2005 Land Cruiser 120 Prado D-4D. Had ONE water pump replacement, 1 set of injectors replaced due to bad fuel over here, 1 alternator... and.. that's pretty much it. No gasket failures, no leakage, turbo doing just fine, no smoke, no exhaust failure, nothing! Not. A. Thing! It's all pretty much the same as it came out the factory. I hope it stays that way till I hit the million mark ;) Meanwhile people bitching about the minor facelift items on the trucks... well go grab your GM products or Ford products and enjoy staying without your vehicle more often than with it. I just have to say Thanks Toyota, for making the most reliable and capable offroad vehicles out there. Kudos, keep up the great job!

Surprisingly there are more Toyota Tundra haters than any other company . But yet Toyota is all over the world providing reliable power train to most of their vehicle all over the world. Nothing wrong with traditional motor . So what, if it don't have eco-boost like ford or 5.7 hemi like dodge. Motor last for ever in tundra that's all matters to Toyota buyers. No we don't care if cabin has video player in dashboard. And here his one good advice for people nagging about gas price : "don't buy pick up truck or full size SUV if you sad about gas milage or gas price".
@guyproulx1660
@guyproulx1660 7 жыл бұрын
Jet Ski Well said, "sadly a lot of truck buyers in America want their toys to play with while driving, some love a remote tailgate, others rather have fake V-8 engine sounds than a real V-8, some need a trailer backup assist because they can't drive ect....." over a proven and reliable Tundra, useless bells and whistles that are prone to fail and cost a fortune to repair are more important than reliability for a lot of truck buyers, go figure
@THEDESTROYER711
@THEDESTROYER711 7 жыл бұрын
Jet Ski why not give the consumer options reliability is one thing but every truck is damn reliable nowadays they can't expect that to win a consumer offer a diesel with 25mpg plus. Like Ram does and ford is going to do. I mean hell my dads Ram 2500 megacab 4x4 with cummins gets 22-26 mpg unloaded all the time and can get 13mpg towing 16k at 80 mph. 12-17 mpg doesn't cut it anymore that's a joke.

If you don't want bells and whistles buy a base model truck from any other manufacturer for less money. or buy a fully loaded Tundra and have the same options as a base model truck but spend a lot more because it's "reliable". Give me a break look at your sales compared to everyone else's and see what the consumer wants they don't want your old ass truck. We've had toyotas in the past and our Ram trucks are just as reliable if not more.
@hardtofind67
@hardtofind67 7 жыл бұрын
THEDESTROYER711 let me explain you something that is best of my knowledge. Toyota is Japanese owned company but vehicles are built in United States. Toyota have super awesome 3.0 liter twin turbo diesel and 5.0 twin turbo d4d diesel in other parts of the world running in land cruisers and other suvs . Toyota is not able to convince Govt of United States to let them bring those motors here because if it does come to USA it will slow down the small diesel sales of ford/ gm / dodge which have a pretty strong control in govt decisions. Second is emission laws about the Toyota diesel which Toyota is not able convince us govt. over all USA will not allow diesel from Toyota (which is awesome motor made by Toyota) . What USA govt wants to do is buy American diesel from company like Cummings or ford / international and use them in Toyota . Just like they forced Nissan to do it with titan hd (cummins 5.0) . So while other people in different part of the world are enjoying diesel toyotas we will have to wait and see what Toyota and USA govt can come to an agreement. As far as my understanding I think Toyota wants to use their own diesel motor like other countries . But USA govt of course won't let it happen for cheap since they are not using American diesel. And again when it comes to American diesel gas mileage I would say one thing : go to Asian countries and drive a Toyota diesel land cruiser / or other Toyota diesel suvs for some time and see it for yourself are they Milage efficient enough or not . I bet you won't get disappointed .

Nick Dovie looks are in the eye of the beholder, personally i think it looks much better than the Ram, i agree they are all too big now, Toyota would keep it simple and basic but unfortunately they have to add a few bells and whistles to try and be competitive in the U.S truck market and keep spoiled Murican truck buyers happy, i prefer a column shifter, i really hate a dial shifter like in the Ram, what a stupid idea, and i also prefer a key

David Robles I hear you man but we know toyota if its not broken dont fix it. I am pretty sure if majority of consumers wanted it and need it they would have upgraded the engine but in todays market its really just dodge and ford pushing the mpg on full size trucks but we all know the reliability on those things. even Chevy gets about the same mpg as the tundra. ill take reliability and almost no maintenance over enginuity any day. I would like to see a diesel on this bad boy though.

That's funny the only reason I didn't buy a tundra when I was truck shopping was the lack of a locking rear diff. That coupled with the mileage, and the cab configurations kept me away. I love the reliability of that thirsty engine, but they need to change a couple other things
@christopherellis2273
@christopherellis2273 7 жыл бұрын
You could have added the rear diff. ARB locker or Auburn LSD are the options. Knowing what I know now, I would have just factored that into the cost of the truck. I love the cab configurations. I have the double cab and it is the smallest cab that I could set the front seat where I wanted it and still get in the back seat. The F-150 extended cab was too short and the crew cab was too long. For me, this was just right. The mileage sucks, but it isn't bad for the power and reliability. I considered the eco-boost, but the reliability isn't at Toyota level.

Another reason why the tundra has the best resale value of any full size truck because they don't change the engine and frame of their trucks but every 15 years. It's actually a good thing for the consumers of the tundra as the newer models with a new engine and 8-10 speed tranny doesn't cause the previous models to depreciate as quickly.

Why is everyone hating on the truck and its fuel economy? You don't buy a truck to save on gas. And nobody, I don't care what you say, even needs a truck this size! So if you're so desperate to feel manly and drive around a big rig, why not just get a full-size F-150 with that little 2.7 L EcoBoost engine? That way you get the best of both worlds: 1) better fuel economy and 2) more importantly you still get to feel manly and take care of your small man syndrome!!!!

Why change the power train when it works? Look at Jeep when they got rid of the straight six 4.0 engine. The 3.7 they put in is junk. Look at Ford six cylinder turbo charged motor in a 1/2 ton truck-nothing but engine problems. Ford parted ways with International (or vice versa)they haven't built a decent diesel motor since. Ram has Cummins and GM has Duramax for how many years! Cause it works. Point being why change when it's working.

Cant say i'm not a little disappointed. I own a 08 tundra 4x4 and its been a great truck. Only thing i've replaced so far is the battery and brakes. Love it but its time Toyota to upgrade the powertrain. Not asking for huge hp or torque improvements but a little would be nice. An improvement in fuel economy is needed the most. Also why Toyota keeps saying there isn't a demand for a rear locker in the Tundra is driving me insane! Not going to be rock crawling but as a avid outdoorsman a locker would be great. Take out the ATRAC and give me a rear locker!!! Since a 2018 still has the same heart beat as my 08 looks like I wont be upgrading any time soon. Please Toyota do something soon before I get to old to enjoy my new future Tundra!!! :)

Take care of it the truck will hold up its value then in 2020 if they do a major change go new. I would still prefer a tundra over the competition. When looking to buy new in the configuration that we would need and capability I find myself looking at ford super duty. But with all the bad experiences I've had in the past with ford I never pull the trigger! I do like the idea of a crew cab & full size bed with a diesel engine! I guess if we wait on Toyota the dream may never become reality!!

Kevin Pretty easy to nail reliability when they barely sell any of them and the truck's design and powertrain hasn't changed in a decade. Funny thing is, the problems with the Tundra never get fixed either. The cam towers still leak, the front diff still vibrates, the wheel bearing failures continue, the ball joints still suck, the frames still rust rot, etc.

If they put a 50+ gallon fuel tank on it so you're not like me in my 2005 GMC with a 25 gallon tank going every 250 miles before you have to stop then gas mileage wouldn't be a big thing. It'd be great to be able to drive all day and never have to stop for gas. If you're pulling something heavy and only getting 8-10 miles per gallon, and you have a 25 gallon tank, you can realistically only want to use about 20 gallons of it just so you don't get stranded in the middle of no where with no gas stations around. If you're going 70 MPH you're stopping for gas every 3 or so hours, that's dumb. Put a 50 gallon tank on there, fill it up wherever you can for as cheap as you can and you can drive all day, or drive around town all month and get the best price of gas as it fluctuates.

Having owned (and sold) a '16 Tundra, my 2 biggest complaints were the god-aweful gas mileage and the hyper-sensitive traction control. Oh yeah, there's nothing like having a little fun accelerating through a corner and have the engine completely shut down for 2 seconds even though I never lost traction. The audio system was really bad too. I don't care how many people say it's so reliable blah blah, unless you've owned one and drove one every day you have no idea how clunky and unrefined the Tundra is compared to Ford, Ram, and Chevy.

I remember TOTALLING an 07 F-150 that was high centered on a drain (no clay backfield around it so 3ft of snow) ripped that piece of s**t off that cap in REVERSE and bent the frame of the shi**y domestic joke of a truck. I am current shopping between a Tundra and a Tacoma. There are several reasons I'm leaning towards the Tacoma but with out a doubt the biggest reason is the lack of a locker in the Tundra. I just bought a 2014 Thundra for 30k used and it's already having issues with the transmission. I call Toyota and they told me that they can not do anything about it because the power trans warranty is 5 years or 60k miles. Yes, its a little over 60k miles but it's still very low (70k) and it's only 2 and 1/2 years old. The truck looks brand new but the transmission is bad. Toyota is not the same anymore. All my cars are Toyota brand and I never have this kind of problems. I'm very disappointed and because my 30k is on the line and heading down the drain....Any suggestion and please help.

Dear Toyota, if you're listening, I'am a 2016 Toyota Tundra Platinum owner. I am looking to upgrade within a year and it is disappointing to learn there are very little changes for 2018. The window dressing updates are getting tiring! I felt this in 2016 before purchasing my 2016 Tundra, however, I gave the brand the benefit of the doubt! By in large, I like my Tundra truck. For the investment made, I want to love my truck! There are a few glaring missing pieces in my opinion, particularly around innovation. There has been VERY little in 10 years with respects to this truck! Why not at the very least upgrade your transmission from 6 speed to 8 speed? It just seems like the truck has to unnecessarily work xtra hard when accelerating. I WANT the Lock diff. I want better fuel economy!!! I consider myself financially blessed to afford whatever truck I want, however, it's doesn't mean I should be financially irresponsible a piss money away on fuel "just because"! Especially, when the overall truck power has nothing special regarding POWER! I appreciate the Toyota reliability, However, the reality surrounding "Quality" is that the "quality gap" has closed amongst the competition. I strongly suggest you show some innovation in this product category. You're falling way behind! I am sad to say, unless I see a change, I'm strongly considering other brands for my next truck purchase in 2019.
