elantra has a major design flaw. I have the 2018 Elantra and The grille has no mesh and is wide open. I've only owned the car for 2 months and my AC went out and their trying to make me pay 800 dollars for repairs because a rock hit the unprotected condesner and it's not covered under warranty because an object came through the wide open grill and hit it. So now every few months I'm supposed to pay 800 dollars??

@@derekpohjolainen2953 It clears the low bar of being better-looking than the frowning catfish Sonata by comparison. It's cheaper than a Civic while having cooler-looking (IDK if it actually offers more features, but nobody will care) tech than a Corolla. The 2021 Nissan Sentra is the better car in every way...except reliability, which is the most important aspect of a compact commuter car. The USDM VW Jetta is dated, probably not long for this world, and not stellar on reliability either. I really think Hyundai knocked it out of the park here, and the target buyer couldn't care less what the car looks like as long as it's marginally tolerable, which it is. The only question is whether the Hyundai badge and the fallout from the Theta/Nu engine fires will sink it anyway. My guess would be yes. Nobody cares about the car under the hated Hyundai badge, or which specific engines are good/bad, except internet fanboys like us who won't buy one new.

May not know this, but for Hyundai, the Elantra is the testbed for consumer experiments to see what works and doesn't before they implement it into their main fixed lineup. It's what keeps Hyundai at the head of the industry when it comes to adapting fast to changes in the market.

@@o_o-fk7ym What keeps Hyundai at the head of the industry is all the work hours put in by their overworked engineers. Can't imagine the amount of stress pulling off a redesign in 2 years. Thankfully I don't have to work in that kind of environment.

I just traded in my 2016 Elantra for a 2021 Elantra SEL . The new car has less cabin noise and it has a better ride on rough roads and bumps. The CVT is very good in the car and I find it to be better than the old 6 speed auto. Going from and older Elantra this new update is a step up. And non of the other manufacturers are going to give you 5/60 ,10/100 warranty and 3/36 free services.

Yes, it's fun to get their perspective on those. Mark does a good job of evaluating cars in terms of who actually buys them. This is a reasonably priced entry-level commuter car, or a good city car. It doesn't need to be quick or handle twisters well, just be a pleasant, comfortable place to spend time in. Hyundai nailed that. I hate the side creases, but otherwise don't mind the styling. It's better than the bland previous model.

Just a few points to add to this: The CVT in this vehicle uses a steel chain which is why it is superior to the belts used in other makes. The smart cruise control feature on these is outstanding and so is the lane centering. With those features you could basically drive drunk on the highway and appear sober (not a recommendation). Excellent commuter car for those with a longer highway commute.
@alexs1640
@alexs1640 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. I was able to eat a sandwich recently during rush hour traffic because the car basically drives itself with lane centering and cruise control break and go. Only issue I had was the pesky keep your hands on the steering wheel warning, lol. And all for a little over $20k. Didn't think you could get this kind of tech at that price point.

Its weird, but here in Peru people think that the Elantra is a sports sedan (maybe because of the styling), because 90% of the Elantras you see on the road drive like they have BMW's , they overtake at any time, tailgate at 5cm from you and start flashing you, and in the highway they go crazy. Its very common to see elantras with spoilers, custom bumpers, stickers, exhaust, etc. For some reason people really think its a sports car. Great review as always!! you are my favourite yt channel!!

I'm turning 16 in a few months. Is a veyron a good first car? I figure it's safe with the awd and when I outgrow it I can get a chiron

May not know this, but for Hyundai, the Elantra is the testbed for consumer experiments to see what works and doesn't before they implement it into their main fixed lineup. It's what keeps Hyundai at the head of the industry when it comes to adapting fast to changes in the market.

Add to that the very good warranty and you have a winner. Great value, warranty, and a very functional interior - Hyundai/Kia is getting more market share. They're on the right track for sure.

2017-2018 Elantra design was peak Hyundai. Change my mind. As someone who has always been pro-Hyundai, the latest designs from them hurt my visual sensibilities.

I owned the Kia Forte, same chassis and port injected 4 popper for 9 months, it was a pleasant car, surprisingly roomy and well built. I did some upgrades with larger wheels & tires, rear sway bar, but then discovered you cannot fully disable stability control. No Scandinavian flick allowed!

Sure wish Hyundai made the 1.4T from the Eco model as the standard engine with the CVT; seems like it'd be a much better fit.

An interesting and helpful content addition would be to offer suggestions for speaker replacements when a car’s OEM audio is subpar. Perhaps a lower trim level model with a good replacement speakers might match or top the audio performance of the more expensive top trim model. Maybe I’m just showing my age where in my youth I’d replace terrible paper-cone speakers with Jensen or Panasonic 6x9’s.

Looks nice. I like everything except for the 'big screen' dash. I like that the info screen looks a bit more integrated, but I'd prefer a gage cluster that isn't a flat screen like that.

Found a certified 19' awd Mazda 3 sedan with the Bose stereo and 9k miles for sale locally for $18,650. I'm not in the market but I feel like that's a fantastic buy... certainly more so than shelling out more for a new Elantra like this.

I have an 18' with white pearl. Nothing but paint peeling problems and Hyundai painting panel after panel (won't do the whole car), A/C smell problems, and poor QC with a few other small issues.... Always drove Japanese, never this many problems. Going back to Toyota or Honda after the Elantra.
