I don't understand people who thought they would bring back the 2JZ, it's a 30 year old engine that hasn't been produced since the early 2000s, and nobody can bring up the 1UZ because it has been continuously update since its introduction. The 90's are dead and we killed it. Btw, this has no real relation to the video, besides maybe the bit about instant boost being not a part of the character of the Supra or whatever.
@זהסודי-ה7מ3 жыл бұрын
Yea. The only reason the Supra was ded, is because nobody bought it. nobody was interested in a 78 grand Toyota. That's why the Lexus IS300 2JZ and SC300 2JZ sold way better than the MK4 Supra
@doabarrellroll693 жыл бұрын
@@זהסודי-ה7מ this. The MK4 was a old man's car, you had lots of leather, not very stiff suspension (on the lower trims that is) and a heafty price tag, but it was still a Toyota. The SC300/400 on the other hand, sold relatively well, and it was what the Supra was based on. I imagine in the 90's, if someone wanted a sports car, they probably would have bought a Corvette instead, or a RX-7.
@renzorevilla12103 жыл бұрын
I mean, people didn't want the 2JZ back, they wanted a modern i6 Toyota engine (probably a collab with Yamaha and be based on a Lexus platform) and what they got is a BMW "collab" where the car is basically a BMW Z4 tuned by Toyota; BMW made the entire car from the mechanics to the interior, there's so much BMW in this car even the key fob is BMW. With that being said, I'm not gonna say it's a bad car, you've probably watched the reviews, you've probably watched Papadakis make a 1000hp B58 and I agree with this comments that say it was a sales failure. As a car for what it is, is pretty good car, but legacy-wise is a failure.

@@E9X330 Neither the RCF, nor the LC500 are Supra sized sports coupes. Honestly, they're closer to being sedans, and the reason they got produced, was because much of their structure came from sedans (the RCF can trace its lineage to the IS, and LC500 comes from the Lexus LS). The reason they got made, was because they didn't need to make a completely new, coupe chassis for them. As for the Yaris GR. That's a hatchback. So which is it? Do you want a 100% Toyota made Supra, that's based on a hatchback, or a lardy sedan? The A90 is - or at least should be - a lesson. What people can learn from this car, their perceptions and disappointment of this car and the car industry at large are a few things: curbing and checking your expectations, observing more (the state of the industry), not overhyping something and placing it on a pedestal, and the need to actually educate yourself about cars and the automotive industry. I have never seen RCR succumb and battle with such strong cognitive dissonance before. This is what the modern sports car is like. All modern sports cars are like this car. Everything in this car are common of modern cars. The current 2021 Supra would of been like this (or even worse) regardless of whether Toyota put the nameplate on a 15 year hiatus or not. It is not the fault of the car or the brand that you had such unrealistic expectations, its not the fault of the car or the brand that US JDM Bros (and JDM Bros in other western countries) looked at a with car rose tinted glasses, fetishizing and overhyping it to the point where it gathered a literal cult-like following (many of its followers hardly know anything about cars or the industry either), retroactively putting it atop a pedestal and giving it god-like status. As a little aside, this cult around the vehicle (and a few others), along with JDM Bros in general, also have a habit of ruining the many specimens they vaunt so much, making the drift tax what it is. Your expectations and fetishization and resulting cognitive dissonance and disappointment are yours. Your fault, your problem and your responsibility. The A90 Supra is like Cyberpunk 2077 - except in this case the car is perfectly fine and is actually a decent sports car, and that Toyota did absolutely nothing to market or hype the vehicle to be more than what it actually is.

What will irritate everyone even more (aside from a paywall for features) is that Toyota partnered with BMW in an attempt to make the Mk5 profitable on its own vs the BRAAAAAAND carrying the cost over to other models. Compared to the new Nissan Z car, where Nissan did go it alone and admitted the new Z car will likely not be profitable and will need to rely on others model sales to shoulder the cost. It was most likely mainly a balance sheet move to partner with BMW.
@Bones43x2 жыл бұрын
Nissan is also carrying a lot of parts over from the 370z to cut costs. Toyota didn't really have another car to do that with. People would have criticized them if they had re-styled/recycled the RCF or nearly anything else...too big, too heavy, the Supra didn't have a V6 or V8, etc. A lot of the purists just need to admit that nothing would have pleased them. In order to build the car that would, in theory, please them, it would be $100k+, and they would complain about the price. Most people that are complaining about BMW reliability couldn't afford a new Supra or BMW. They're most likely potential 2nd or 3rd owners, because most people that buy $50k sports cars (or any new care for that matter) either don't keep them outside of warranty or they don't drive them enough for them to have real reliability issues.
