I had a 2019 Jetta SE and my wife had a 2020 Passat as a rental for work. After driving that I had to head to my dealer and check out one out as my lease was ending soon. I ended up going home with a 2022 Passat SE. The ride is so smooth on 18” wheels. The space inside is amazing, fuel economy is great, remote start, car net, and home link. It’s not the sportiest but it’s nice. I’m happy with it

@@jakepatchogue9478 compared to my 19’ and 15’ Jetta’s I’d say it’s not as stiff. Not that it’s like a boat but it definitely feels more loose. And hitting a pothole with my winter tires is not as bad as my all seasons with the 18” wheels. So it all depends on what wheels and tires too

I still love my 2014 Passat 1.8 TSI manual, it's the best daily driver I can think of. I've driven across Canada and did 1200 km's with one tank with all my stuff in back and was able to fold the backseat and sleep in it! For the size, price and the driving dynamics I think it's a great car. It never gave me issues since day one and it's still going strong. I bought it new! Unfortunately i won't be able to replace it with another Passat. VW did not keep it up to date, they simply wanted to kill it for the market and that they did.

I had a 2021 Passat Trendline while my GTI S was being serviced. I found the suspension to feel really floaty (like a boat basically), the brake pedal was indeed very assisted and hard to brake smoothly. The interior felt really cheap compared to the GTI. The problem is that the better options are also reliable. If I wanted something boring and reliable, why not just go directly to the Toyota lot? Heck even the current gen Camry is a nice and more interesting vehicle. The Accord also similar interior space. The Mazda6 is on a similarly aged platform, but at least they updated the interior and features to keep it competitive. Mazda also recently topped CR’s reliability charts. Unfortunately this car makes no sense unless you’re a VW fan.

Can you please expose this issue with the 2020/19/18 Camry (non-hybrid). There’s a post about it. Make sure the car is on, all windows up so you can hear, no AC or music on. It needs to be really quiet. There’s an annoying buzzing, static, electric frequency sound when you press and release the brake pedal. It’s a little loud and annoying. Toyota said it’s normal but very annoying and haven’t offered to fix it. There’s a great write up on the issue which was difficult to find. The write up has pictures from the findings of the specialist from Toyota stating normal. It’s the SE Camry. Not hybrid. Have a 16 R line, used to drive 130 miles a day before lockdown. Great comfortable car if you need to commute and have a family. Space is huge inside and you are all but invisible to cops. 30+ mpg, 400+ miles per tank is nice also. If I were to get the 21 I would ask for old 19 inch wheels, these new ones are ugly.

@@thomasmacgruber6701 you know my car is over 21 years old here in germany. i average about 47mpg, although most of the time i drive on the autobahn to work, combined about 22miles. i sometimes measure consumption at higher speeds out of curiosity, normaly i drive around 60mph, at that time i drove around 93mph which is about 150kph and my cars mpg was around 40. over 20 years later what really has changed in the automotive industry? not much. possibly even got worse. not a personal attack on you btw.

@@accelerator5524 Our cars tend to have larger displacement engines and more horsepower, thus less mpg. On top of that, we drive larger vehicles on this side of the ocean, especially pickup trucks. Vehicles in Europe are usually smaller with tiny engines which means better MPG. Different preferences between North Americans and Europeans lead to different standards of "good MPG".
@accelerator5524
@accelerator5524 3 жыл бұрын
@@kevinnorris6558 1.8L, 2L and even 3L is kinda default displacement size even in the us nowadays. yes there are more cars in the us which are over 3L but even cars closer to 2L are, for whatever reason, stagnating in fuel consumption for 2 decades or such. but i mean you guys should slowy start with changing how you think about mgp. 30mpg is not nice nor is it ok. in 2020, for the american citizen only commuting to work and doing other basic things, mpg should be considered nice when its at least 45mpg

The Passat sedan will also be discontinued in Europe, leaving the wagon the only bodystyle that will live on.

Get a camry hybrid and you will feel that you don't need anything else for a while. Base 4 banger is an easy choice too. Don't buy this model since it's going to be dropped in the near future (getting parts usually is hard and expensive on a VW for some reason)

The vw may last to 100k without issue if you get lucky. The Camry 300k. You can't beat Toyotas reliability.

If they'd ramp up their appeal...maybe the sedans (dare I say a 2 door ) would sell better. I can't stand driving a bulkmobile (SUV/CUV/TRUCK). Too heavy and not very nimble in handling. Still like a low center of gravity and light car. Passat offers a terrific range and room. Handles better than it looks. Really, the big thing, would be a more responsive engine. IMHO, the 1.8 was better. They've a perfectly good 2.0 with 200+ hp. Why not use that engine in the Passat? GTI always comes across as expensive to me. Not that it is a bad vehicle, but it seems pricey. I'm not sold on the hatchback look. I had a CC and a Passat at the same time. I liked the Passat better: it's braking was better and was more tossable. The CC's brake pedal went to the floor (nearly) before you felt braking. That scared me a bit and in one incident on U.S. near Canton, MI almost resulted in me rear ending someone. But, the CC's driving nannies were much less intrusive. I would have preferred a merger of the two. The CC's looks and interior with the conventional automatic (over the DCT) and the larger fuel tank and better brake pedal operation.

It feels like a failure compared to the competition. The interior is just dated, the exterior is nice but other than not an eye-catcher. For the price your better off with an Accord, Camry, and Mazda 6 since they are up to date with tech. I am not saying that it is a totally awful car just not a good value anymore in my opinion to the competition.
@persiashahdi5215

I'd actually say the interior is a high point for this car. It's old fashioned but nice and clean. Exterior agreed. And also agree that I'd take an Accord, Camry or Mazda 6 over this.

I mean it isn't bad but can't help but think it feels a little dated, also the ride they should have upgraded that in my opinion. Just is not class leading anymore but I think that's because they plan to discontinue this model.
