So you’re saying that Checo only having 3 podiums since Canada in this RB is good? Besides Latifi/Ricciardo no driver is as far off in terms of pace as Checo is to Max. Nobody will beat Max in the same car over a season but Checo has been abysmal in so many races. He produces a really good race once in a while and goes missing the next 5-6. Let‘s be real the RB was much faster than the Ferrari if even Checo can beat Leclerc by that much in Singapore. Without the quali fuckup Max would‘ve probably won by like 20 secs+. So all things considered Perez certainly is the worst out of the 6drivers in the top 3 teams and there‘s a couple of better drivers in the other teams aswell.

@@Reaz399 Checo is P3 (almost P2) in the championship. That is extremely good when you consider that he has more points out of #2 drivers of the top 2 teams (ahead of Sainz). He is competing with Sainz, not Verstappen, and that is how you measure him in this specific situation. You don't measure him to his teammate as you do with other drivers because his teammate is freaking Max Verstappen.

Giving Max a D, same as Hamilton, is utterly ridiculous. Lewis made big mistakes that cost him 6 places from his starting position, while Max gained 1. LeClerc also lost a position and then did absolutely nothing but follow Perez, and you give him an A. Max was by far the fastest in qualifying, but qualified P8 rather than P1 through no fault of his own. Yes, he had a bad start (anti-stall, not necessarily Max' fault), and was too anxious to overtake Norris after the safety car, but after that he was on fire on the red tire, his comeback from the back was so strong, it was amazing, he did 10 of the 16 overtakes in the race, and many fastest laps, giving us more entertainment than any other driver. Also, by finishing P7, he ensured he only needs 8 more points than Leclerc and 6 more points than Perez on the next race, so if he finishes P1 + fastest lap he will be World Chamption, regardless of what LeClerc and Perez do, so Verstappen completely has it in his own hands next weekend in Honda's home country, couldn't be better.

Red Bull only wanted a second driver to support Max and score the odd win here and there. Checo is doing exactly that and Red Bull will easily win both championships. Not sure why he was getting so much criticism throughout the season, nobody can compare to Max and that's especially true when the team build the car around Max. Perez is consistently doing what Albon and Kvyat couldn't do--being a great #2 driver who can win races.

That Vettel drive through penalty was different circumstances though, really. Perez was just going a bit more slowly at some points to help with keeping tyre and break temps in the right zone - and always closed right back up again. Vettel was intentionally backing the whole pack up prematurely. The two incidents shouldnt have the same penalty IMO.

I personally want Checo to surpass Max and I'm rooting for him, but i know it's very very difficult. That doesn't mean I should hate Max. And Max's lockup and bad start were one of the very few mistakes he has done this entire season. Credit has to be given where it is due. While the investigation that loomed over the race was definitely really annoying, I still prefer the thorough and long investigation vs. making wrong snap decisions. How many times have you watched a game in a sport where they don't take as much time to make sure the calls are right, and it undermined the legitimacy of the entire game? That said, the FIA def should get faster / better, but basically it's always going to be a difficult balance between having better calls, vs having timely calls IMO

Max doesn't deserve a D, like sure it wasn't his best race of the year. But if you look at just how many l people he passed and how many places he made up after dropping to like 13th off the line, fighting his way to 5th behind Lando, dropping to last, then fighting back up to 7th deserves more than a D. Especially if you look at why he was in 8th to begin and he probably would have been on pole if it wasn't for Red Bull messing up during Q3

F1 needs to take a look at WEC for safety cars and VSC. WEC has put many things in place to make sure the entire point of yellow flags or safety cars is safety comes first. Formula 1 however, all teams see safety cars as a chance to gain massive advantages on other teams.

The only thing that sometimes happens with football is that they elevate a yellow or red card from a player. But the result of the game still stays the same. Which might be a bit mire difficult in f1 since it is also an individual sport and elevating a 5 second penalty will change the end result. Still they should decide quicker what the penalty is, and off course sometimes it is a hit or a miss, but then drivers can also react to it.

Full wet will still be needed in weather like Brazil 2016. It wasn't nearly that wet in Singapore this time. It probably doesn't work in Singapore because of the number of slow corners, which prevents the tyres from properly heating up.

This was better than 2020 imo. I mean yeah he won in a racing point and it was a shock. But this was checo in complete control the entire race. No misfortune for others, no lucky safety cars to mix up tyres. Just checo dominating. Sure 2020 was more exciting but this was easily his best performance

The reason why the stewards decided Checo's penalty after the race was because it was a tough and wet race. In these tricky and risky scenarios, the stewards have been known to take that into account. So it probably made sense to talk to the driver after a race, especially after the decision is to overturn a win of all things.

Gonna say it, perhaps it isn’t the car that is that hard on tires as much as it charles not being able to manage them! Leclerc was faster than checo, but in the end before he got in drs he had already killed his tires and then when he actually had drs, bc of the dead tires, he kept locking up and missing apexes and checo was able to pull off slowly even though he too had locked up…

I've seen plenty of people say that the FIA statement contradicted itself. I first saw it from non-native English speakers, so I chalked it up to a translation/reading comprehension error. Why is it so difficult to understand? The document says: "Although the track was wet in parts, we do not accept that the conditions were such as to make it impossible or dangerous for PER to have maintained the required less than 10 car length gap. Nevertheless, we took into account the wet conditions and the difficulties highlighted by PER as mitigatory circumstances for this incident and, accordingly, determine that a reprimand ought to be imposed." In other words: It was possible and it would not have been reckless to keep the mandated distance, but taking into account the conditions, the infraction wasn't that severe. Now, I'm not saying the FIA didn't fuck this situation up, but the statement does not contain a logical contradiction.

37:39 I disagree. Considering the humidity, putting them out on full wets on a track like singapore would be a death sentence for every driver. The spray would remain in the air and make it virtually impossible to see. Drivers had explained this after the race that in the first laps, visibility was terrible. And that was in conditions after they let it dry a little. But none of the onboard cameras do it justice how bad visibility was. Edit: 40:07 thanks Katy

The process of talking to the team and the driver is because there might be something like a temp issue that raises a safety issue in which case he’s allowed to go more than 10 lengths. I agree that they could just ask the team but then the driver needs to asked if there were other incidents that have caused him to not be within the limit.
