We have owned several Lexus cars over the years. 2 LS400s 2 IS300s 2 IS250s 1 CT200h 1 ES300h currently a 2005 LS430 and a 2004 GX470. The LS430 to me is the best car ever built and the 2019 ES300h was an amazing vehicle 50mpg and very good comfort and space. You could hide 2 bodies in the trunk. Why they didn't carry that over to the LS I don't know. I have also worked for Lexus for over 30 years and while things aren't like they used to be I still believe Lexus makes the best cars in the world!

The Lexus LS typically caters to an older age demographic. I recently purchased my second LS (2022), and age 48 I truly believe I was the youngest customer in the dealership. The average LS buyer loves the vehicles simplistic interior and somewhat basic functionality. LS purchasers remain loyal to this sedan for its reliability, comfort & smooth ride. Not an abundance of personal settings, multiple infotainment features or niche gadget's (I haven't viewed/changed my LS's settings since the first week of purchase.) Although I miss the V8, the twin turbo V6 has surprisingly quick acceleration and to me most importantly is quiet.

It's appeal to older folks is because they've bought cars over the years and have realized that when you purchase something that significantly depreciates as soon as you drive it off the lot, you want something that is reliable. Only younger folks buy the cars that are pretty and shiny with all the bells and whistles is because they haven't had years of wisdom and experience of dealing with the maintenance on a depreciating product. Older folks know Lexus is a luxurious vehicle that they can drive for a decade with minimal issues. You're not getting that with a Land Rover or a German car.

As the former owner of previous generations of the LS going back decades, I can attest to the truth of the Car Care Nut's complaints about the current generation. With all due respect to Lexus engineers and designers, as well as die hard Toyota/Lexus fans, I have to say that in this segment of ultimate luxury cars Lexus has never really been an equal competitor to the European models. People who have bought them, did so with value per dollar calculations (and I have to admit there’s a strong case there), but if you take that out of equation, I will say again that Lexus and Mercedes don’t really belong together in a comparison. P.S. I am an owner of a Toyota, so it’s not that I don’t understand the reliability side of it. In fact, that’s the thing that pushed me towards Toyota vs other makes. However, having had the car for two years and 48k miles, I stand convinced that for true driving feel and refinement there are better choices out there…

Interested in an LS(for a second vehicle)so to get a feel for them I test drove a 2012 LS460 with 178,000 miles and it was as tight and solid as the day it left Japan! Amazingly smooth and serene. My salesman and the sales manager told me the new ones are nothing like the older ones. People who trade up to a new one want their older ones back. It’s sad Lexus is going backwards with their flagship. It started everything and now there is no more of the “relentless pursuit of perfection” for the LS😢. Against the competition the LS is barely mid-pack. The older ones are definitely something special.

As owner of an ‘02 LS430 and a ‘20 LS500, I can understand some of the criticisms, but do find the LS500 to be a much better handler than the LS430. As for smoothness and ride, run flat tires are the culprit. You can always swap them for conventional tires as some owners have done. In all we are very satisfied with our LS500. Our LS430 lacks most of the safety features of the LS500 and that is where the current model excels. Power is another area where the LS500 dominates. 442 lb. Ft. of torque at 1,600 rpm is incredible. The 500 is a very fast car.

I think the LS430 was the last car that Lexus used to go after the big European sedans. The LS430 is one of the best sedans ever built regardless of price. However, the market was changing and Lexus changed with it. You have to fish where the fish are. SUV's and CROSSOVERS were growing in sales. Lexus also had a reputation of building boring cars in Europe so Lexus tried to address this with more performance. One of the biggest mistakes Lexus made with the LS 500 is they did not offer a V8 engine. In the LC500 coupe you got a 5.0 liter V8. This is a great engine. In the LS 500 you could only get a V6. The V8 should have at least been an option. I agree with you. The LS 500 is an after thought. It's a shame because if you look at the LC500 you immediately say, what a fantastic car. This proves that Lexus can make the LS great again they just need the will to do it. Cheers!!!

Absolutely brilliant unbiased review. Thank you. As an engineer of such vehicles, it must not have been easy to write that. I have been looking toward finally, heading towards my first LS. In many markets now only the hybrid is available. I am sold on Lexus for Japanese reliability, that brilliant interior Japanese design, it's smooth engine, quietness and most of all, that stonking good KIRIKO glass only available on top trim. However, ive had to make peace with the fact the hybrid is not silent and not smooth. This is a 7yr old car and Lexus are not pricing it attractively. It makes no sense financially, and at that price point, one shouldnt have to make compromises. I dont favor the other luxobarges because of their poor reliability. Nothing holds a candle to Lexus when it comes to flagship (yes they don't have the latest toys and peerless manmade materials sometimes, but that's reflected in price), but theyre not making it easy. Thank you for helping me decide against this. I'm either going for the top trim ES, or having to jump on a European luxobarge till Lexus are back in form.

Former 2013 Ls460 owner, now belongs to my mom. Current 2019 Ls500 owner, and although I love my 2019……..it does fall short in some areas. The thing we have to remember is, Lexus’s said their original goal was to make the LS an affordable alternative to the European flagships……..that’s why it never had all the bells and whistles the Sclass, 7series and eventually the A8 had. That’s the reason it was always a little more affordable than the euros, Lexus had a price point. I do agree that the ride is not as soft as previous models, and the interior is much smaller. Technology wise it’s definitely still behind the European flagships, but it’s a beautiful car in my opinion. My main gripe is with the V6, Lexus dropped the ball there. I have the F sport model, and they should have at least offered a V8 as an option. They should have put the 5.0, or kept the 4.6 and bumped up the hp with a tune or a turbo. BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Kia and Hyundai all still offer V8’s. The twin turbo V6 should’ve went to the Supra and the Is500.

Like LS430 very much but it was not AWD. I love my 2017 LS460 L. Much better than LS500 because I am not young and need being comfortable. LS500 is more sporty and liked by my son. We need an additional SUV and just ordered an 2024 Cayeen which is a great SUV but I don't know how reliable it will be? Just keep my finger crossed. Other point: LS500 with run flat tires which I don't like. I switched to Michelin conventional tires. Much better.

I've driven is300 & Supra before owing 2012 Mercedes C300 and Mercedes is way way better than any Lexus. From the thumbnail picture I thought it was a ES300. I don't like the direction Lexus is going with the LS. The LS should have been a no-compromise, all-out luxury sedan that defines the Lexus brand, just like it did in the 90's and 2000's. Lexus has a lot to learn from the new Genesis G90.

My buddy has a 2020 Lexus LS500. It's very nice, but for their flagship luxury car it doesn't feel particularly luxury. I think the one premium feeling thing I appreciated in the car was the classy flowing lines across the lines of the inlay on the dash and how they lined up perfectly with the lines in the door. It's a nice handsome car, but it's very pedestrian. Felt like a larger ES. The LC500 is a good example of a car that looks and feels every bit as premium as it's price and flagship position says it should. They are both going to be low volume cars regardless, but the LC feels like a flagship unlike the LS. You feel special sitting inside a LC. In the LS you're just another car in traffic. The LS should make you feel something, but it doesn't for me.

Luxury for Lexus doesn`t mean fancy display difficult to understand and a pain in ass to set-up or milions of settings that nobody will never use. I feel this flagship very comfortable, easy to use and maintenance also is very easy compared to german cars. About outside design, it is a 2023 car, the big shaped lines of old LS was good in 1980`s days, nowydays car need to be fuel-efficency having a fluent design like this one. I could prefer the LS of 10yrs ago but I understand that Lexus designers must design a car with 2023 standards and I feel that is a very elegant Lexus flagship.

It's not a timelessly beautiful style. I think that's what a luxury car should be. I like the front flares but still mostly hate the gaudy spindle grill and cheap looking trendy wheels. The interior to me, looks very choppy and should flow more hiding seams and joints like fine furniture. It will be timely to detail all those little crevices. It has genuine leather in most areas and Ultrasuede liner. I wish they used a finer grade of leather rather than the semi-aniline they chose. At least with Lexus you know it will be very quiet and above average reliability. Very nice review.

I bought a 2017 LS460 new… I have gotten these LS500’s as loan cars. I REALLY dislike them. They aren’t as roomy, or refined, the center console is hard material, the seats aren’t as plush, it’s a harsh ride, I’m a tall guy and my hair brushes the ceiling, also they don’t make a true LWB sedan, so the back seat is so cramped. It just feels like it should have had the GS badge on it. I think Lexus really messed up the new LS unfortunately. Oh also, a safety issue! When I had one of the LS500’s I had the trunk opened on sat in the sill of the trunk to change my shoes and the trunk auto-closes after some time 😓 and it really hurts, the trunk lid started to close on me, I had to push back quite hard to get it to stop.

Even at 39:26 he says it feels like a large GS or ES. But hey, ignorance is bliss, I think you know that. Have a good rest of your day, also I hope you watch the whole video he made lol

I have owned 3 LS430s and 2 SC300s. It is sad that Toyota has completely lost its way with design, materials, and durability. It all went wrong in 2007 with the LS but at least it still had a V8 and most engine parts were not made of plastic. This car to me is sort of like the 2003 BMW 745i. Full of technology and everyone keeps saying how nice it looks but the car is a total pig. The dash is a joke on a $100K+ car. They can throw all of the high quality build under the skin at this but in the end, the technology is what will doom this to the junkyard when it is just past warranty and in the hands of owner #2 or #3 who wants to operate on a budget. The 90-06 LS would literally last forever and if you had one without navigation system it was the best of the best. Any sedan buyer should just buy a Mercedes Benz S class instead of this. The 23 update should have been an optional V8 engine but as you said they don’t care about the LS and will probably kill the model well before 2030.

I own the 2023 Lexus ES300h Ultra Luxury trim and love the vehicle. It's the Ultra Luxury trim, which is what we wanted and is the highest trim for the ES hybrid. It is the Cloudburst Gray exterior with Acorn color semi-aniline leather interior. Total Installed Packages & Accessories: 1) Premium Triple-beam LED headlamps; 2) Smartacess Card Key; 3) Premium Paint; 4) Lexus Interface with 12.3-in Multimedia Touchscreen Display; 5) Ultra Luxury Package; 6) All weather floor liners and trunk mat; 7) Door edge film by 3M; 8) The Preferred Accessory Package; and 9) The Dealer added a 5-year windshield protection/replacement coverage package and tinted the driver and passenger windows. MORE: The three-projector headlamp design creates an eye-catching L shape. Adding to this brilliant design, the headlamps feature LED side turn signals, as well as an Adaptive Front Lighting System6 that uses steering and speed sensors to direct the angle of low-beam illumination as the vehicle enters a curve. The Adaptive Front Lighting System monitors steering and speed with a suite of sensors and will automatically adjust the angle of your low-beam headlights to improve visibility on curved roads. Ultra Luxury extras: 1) 18-inch split-five-spoke alloy noise-reduction wheels and Michelin "green" tires; 2) Power rear sunshade with manual rear-door sunshades; 3) Power open/close trunk with kick sensor; 4) 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen display 10.2-inch Head-Up Display; and 5) Intuitive Parking Assist with Auto Braking and Rear Pedestrian Detection, and Panoramic View Monitor. Averaging 43+ MPG City/Hwy driving and I had the oil and filter changed at 1,000 miles for my own peace of mind. Just For Reference: I was not going to wait one-year or 10,000 miles to have the factory installed oil & filter changed. And, I shall be changing the Oil (Liqui Moly 0W-16 Spec V) and Toyota filter every 5,000 miles from now on. Like Scotty Kilmer says, oil & filters are cheap, engines are expensive. LOL.
