2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid review // Still the one to beat?

This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2024 Ford Maverick hybrid pickup truck. The 2024 Ford Maverick hybrid has a 2.5L 4-cylinder with a hybrid system, it’s matched to an eCVT with a combined 191 horsepower. FWD only.
The second 2024 Ford Maverick engine option is the 2L Ecoboost with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Standard AWD in Canada. In the US, both FWD and AWD options are available. We will be focusing on the hybrid in our review.
2024 Ford Maverick hybrid fuel economy is great, 5.6L/100 km, 42 MPG city and 7.1L/100 km, 33 MPG highway. It can tow 2,000 pounds, has a 1500-pound payload and gets 8.3” of ground clearance. If you add the FX4 or Tremor package the ground clearance increases to 8.6” - 9.4”.
The 2024 Ford Maverick hybrid comes standard with an 8” touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, 4.2” driver display, a 6-speaker audio system, manual front seats, cloth upholstery, keyed ignition and FordPass Connect.
2024 Ford Maverick hybrid available features include, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, a power driver’s seat with lumbar support, a manual passenger seat with height adjustment, leatherette upholstery, push button start, a 6.5” driver display, an 8” touchscreen with SYNC3 and wired Apple Carplay and Android Auto and an 8-speaker B&O sound system.
The interior of the 2024 Ford Maverick hybrid is simple with clever storage solutions. I like how Ford used a mix of materials and textures in the cabin as there is quite a bit of hard plastic, but you always have to consider the price point, it’s very good for a hybrid.
In Canada the 2024 Ford Maverick hybrid starts at $35,795 CAD, XLT $38,395 CAD and Lariat $46,195 CAD.
In the US, XL $25,315 USD, XLT $27,815 USD and Lariat $34,135 USD.

My wife and I purchased a 24 Maverick Hybrid XLT about 4 weeks ago. We were not even going to consider a Maverick but we sat in one at the Toronto Auto Show. Everything from seats to space is perfect for us. My wife is the "HYPERMILER". Average fuel economy has been 5L/100km. Last fuel tank lasted 1067 km. The small truck is amazing.

I have the XLT with the luxury package, 2023 Ford maverick, hybrid! I absolutely love this truck. My mpg‘s are 52 miles per gallon since I have purchased this truck with over 7000 miles now. It is the perfect truck for me. Most of my driving is rural to city Driving! Just got back from a road trip to San Antonio Texas and kept it under 70 got 47 miles per gallon. I would highly recommend this truck to anyone. It has definitely served me well!

Yes, and it is no longer the least expensive way to go either. You can pay less now for an Ecoboost AWD than a FWD Hybrid model in the same trim level regardless of being in Canada or the USA.

I like it. I especially liked it when they said that it’d be starting at under $20,000 USD, which quickly became $25,000 USD… which inevitably went even higher. In Canada (at a dealership) recently, I saw one with a sticker price of $48,000 before taxes and add-ons. At that SAME dealership, you can currently buy one hell of a used F-150 or a used Ranger… for nearly $50,000!! I know which one is go for. Thanks for the video.

Took delivery of my XLT hybrid in February after waiting 519 days from the original order. Very glad I waited, it's an amazing vehicle and they've worked all (most?) of the bugs out. Wisconsin here... I didn't have much trouble at all with the fwd Escape that the Maverick replaced, so I'm not too worried about getting stuck in winter. Thanks for another great video.

I have had my Ford Maverick Lariat Hybrid four months and absolutely love it. I drive about 50 miles daily and regularly get 40-50mpg in the warmer weather. The interior is laid out perfectly, the ride is really comfortable and I am able to do all of the trucky things I need to do. I absolutely love this!

I have a 2022 XLT AWD ecoboost and while it doesn't get the MPG's of the Hybrid, I can still get 33 mpg highway with 93 octane and keeping the speed around 70 mph. With 87 octane the mpg drop 1 mpg.

Great review as always. Love Andrea's calm enthusiasm. I have had Toyota pick-ups since the early 80s but was considering the Maverick as I downsize. Nice wee truck, but still a Ford. I was very excited when you mentioned the possible return of the small Toyota truck that would also be a hybrid. My present Tacoma is way too big for town parking, and was way too expensive. How true do you guys think that a new smaller Toyota model is??? Looking forward to your review if it comes. P.S. Keep the "put it in S" thingy.

In such a hyper competitive industry, it is hard to believe that Ford has been the only manufacturer in this category (I don't count the Santa Cruz - too niche) for almost three years now. I feel like the small-truck category is THE biggest untapped market. Waiting patiently for Toyota to _finally_ announce theirs.

3:40 The Santa Cruz is virtually identical in size and specs, and it addresses the need for stiff springs by using an auto-leveling rear suspension as standard, so it can go softer on springs without sagging when under load. It also got refreshed for 2025 so the new interior is miles ahead of the Maverick now.

@@BoopSnoot Power is one of the differences. Here in the U.S. You can get the 2.0L ecoboost on the base Maverick with FWD starting at $26,055, with AWD at $28,275, with AWD + 4k tow for $29,020. To get the turbo in the Santa Cruz you have to start with the black edition which comes with AWD and starts at $38,460 so to get the turbo engine on the Santa Cruz it's going to cost $9440 - 12,405 more than the Maverick.

Sometimes I lament that I didn't buy the hybrid model, but I've only put 14,500km on my truck in 2.5 years and most of my driving is on the highway, where the difference in fuel economy between the hybrid and eco boost is very close. I also really like the eco boost's 250hp power output. This little truck hauls!

Don’t lament. I traded my ultra low mileage Venza hybrid on a gas turbo Toyota Highlander. I did the math. It would take me 18 years to break even if I bought the hybrid. That’s at average US gas prices at $ 3.00 a gallon. The lower MSRP of the Highlander gas, the $ $3700 discount on the gas model. My state charges an extra $ 100 yearly registration fee for hybrids and EVs. That upset me. Go green and be penalized. Rationale. You pay less in road taxes. The turbo 4 is so much more enjoyable to drive than my hybrid.

I have a '23 XL Hybrid with steelies(best trim). I get awesome mileage...almost as good as my last car...a '17 Prius. I live in Newfoundland where we get a lot of snow and I'm fine with the FWD. Just put on some good meats and you're good.

I had an XLT Hybrid Luxury (waited 13 months) but the day it arrived, I ordered a Lariat Hybrid. I would thave ordered it but was not allowed to in Canada at the time. Coming from a loaded F150 Lariat, I really wanted the rear backup sensors and dual zone a/c that are Lariat trim only features. I just took it on its first trip (about 1000 kms) and it is indicating 5.9 L/100 kms. The Lariat is much quieter than the XLT and I like the interior colours. The price really wasn't ever an issue - what sold me was the suitable size of the package, I also have the Ford branded Leer cap which lets me put the baby stroller almost fully erect right in the back with loads of room for shopping. Makes switching things up with my daughter's baby a breeze. I'm keeping an old Ranger for now, but may get rid of it when I see how the Lariat handles the light towing I do occasionally.

The only recalls that affected me have been software fixes for issues that could happen, but haven’t. i have a Lariat hybrid without the lux package. If you get a hard tonneau cover, you give yourself a large, lockable “trunk” for daily use and still have a truck bed when needed. I had looked at SUVs prior to going with the Maverick and sheets of ply would need to be strapped to the roof as opposed to slid into the bed. 37mpg winter, 42 mpg so far this spring and 49 mpg last summer. Also had to go out in the worst snowstorm of the year and made it home safe and sound. Likely easier w/ all wheel but quite doable. Count me as a 5 star owner.

I have a 23 maverick xlt hybrid. It really is all the truck I need living in the city. What they need to change is to add keyless ignition, adaptable cruise control, and awd/4x4 to the hybrid model is the maverick will dominate the market easily.

FWD is fine in the winter. I lived in MI most of my life, and only got stuck once in very deep snow after over 20 inches of snow with huge drifts. Use Low, and I could get up very slippery Hills no problem. I go stuck more with AWD vehicle as I got overconfident.

I’ve owned 4 Mavericks, 3 XL hybrids, and a XLT Tremor. Sold all of them because of not having enough room for 7 vehicles. Also my old Ranger made it irrelevant. I’m surprised you all didn’t buy one. My press rep from Ford told me that’s no word on AWD hybrid. They are struggling with supply chain.

I'd love a hybrid for my business, but it's not enough bed for my needs. The 6ft bed I have now is the sweet spot. The idea of getting 42mpg around town is so enticing though. I'm currently getting 16mpg. The smoothness of the eCVT transmission would also be a lot more pleasant to live with considering 99% of my driving is in the city. I'm really disheartened that Ford arbitrarily raised the base price $5,400. We get nothing more for that money. I can hear the executives in my head. "It's selling extremely well. Let's squeeze consumers for more." *rubbing fat greedy rich hands together* Remember when being a #1 selling vehicle didn't mean the price of a car jumped up thousands for no reason?

The AWD hybrid would be tempting for my neck of the woods. The good old fashioned key is great...don't need some wireless FOB arrangement for thieves to hack and have my new vehicle off to the port of Montreal and out of the country before you know it! : )

I test-drove one at my dealership and sat in the front, adjusted the seat to my liking, and then went to sit in the back. I found the floor was not flat but was somewhat of a bucket. It was recessed about 3 inches downward. I'm 6' and have a normal 10 1/2 foot size. I had to awkwardly maneuver my feet under the front seat to get in and it was cramped. Now this is the real problem, I could not get out. I could not get my feet out from under the front seat because it was like they were in a bucket and stuck. I could not move the seat forward because I could not reach the front seat controls so, I had to ask the salesperson to move the seat forward enough so I could get my feet out and get out of the back. This was not only disappointing but, I thought and said to the salesperson, "What would happen if we were in an accident and the driver was knocked unconscious? The person in the back might not be able to get out." My advice is to check it out. That could be a serious issue if you have back seat passengers.

Just wish it had a longer, 6 foot bed. The larger bed is good for my light duty truck stuff. I would also like NA 4 for longevity, so I can keep the truck for a long time, but it’s not a deal breaker. The Maverick is the best option, but the prices are getting pretty high.

I have had at least 6 Fords over the last 35 years. Have no issue with any of those truck, cars and Suv's. I’m so tires of hearing this doubt about reliability. Yet when I had a Honda, that car gave more problems than most of the vehicles I had.

Toyota’s hybrid technology has been licensed, by Ford, for their Maverick. Toyota has a similar Stout in the works. Will the Stout be priced closer to the Santa Cruz or the Maverick?

Tacoma compared to Ranger was 20k higher. I wouldn't be surprised if Stout is 50k under the 60k just to start price of a Tacoma. It would be shocking if they offer a simple bare frills truck like the old ones of decades past. That'd be the only way they would compete with a Maverick on price. I think they wouldn't bother sticking closer to the Santa Cruz in price, people who want a truck don't really consider that, it's niche and doesn't sell in the numbers Toyota would be moved to compete with. I have a feeling this Stout will be going the premium route like Tacoma. There is just too much money to be made much like the RAV4s. Also can't imagine them selling a truck cheaper than their hybrid crossovers when it's likely going to get feature packed.

had a 22 hybrid and traded it in - for 35k it should def have more features - push start ignition, power driver seat, wireless apple car play - my bed leaked - i think there's 7-8 recalls now - had to replace cv axles at 30k kms - but i do miss the gas mileage

The Mazda trucks sold overseas are badge engineered Isuzu D-Maxs. Doubtful that Mazda would sell the BT pickup here....

Great review guys...This is as you mentioned is a Honda Ridgeline, Santa Cruz alternative . Not body on Frame . To be fair, not in same category at all as Taco or Ranger. On a side note With Car thefts through the roof in Canada , especially In Quebec and Ontario we might see keys coming back. The Key Fobs are convenient for owners but also car thieves !!!

It won't change anything. The key fobs have the same chip that communicates with the anti-theft system and will be hacked the same way. The key fob just uses a different mechanical design to close the circuit to the starter motor.

I sold my Jeep Cherokee 4WD Ltd for the Maverick AWD I show in my videos from Park City. I am still very happy about this decision.

Honestly. The Maverick is no longer a deal. You have to add the lux package to get basic amenities, are still stuck with keyed entry and now paying the same price as a base ranger almost

I love this truck. I do agree about push button. Seems petty on Ford’s part. I’ll be honest i have a hard time rooting on Ford. They seem to have a disdain for affordable vehicles and it comes off as classist. Especially, getting rid of affordable sedans which to this day I don’t understand outside of Fiesta. The Focus and Fusion fell into the same pricing as Maverick but instead of producing 100k/year they were doing 400k/year. The F150 has been about profit margin for well over 10-15 years now but I don’t see why you wouldn’t keep both. Toyota is doing it and doing perfectly fine.

Toyota needed Ford to make their hybrids better. There was a trade in technology that was performed. I bet the Ford hybrid is better. I have a Fusion hybrid and have been getting great gas milage compare to my friend who has a Camry hybrid.

I wonder if they'll ever address the deep sleep issue on Hybrids. Not everybody drives their vehicle every day. Don't leave it at the airport! But at least the engine won't blow up.
