Good honest review. I love my 2022 GV70 3.5 Sport Prestige, purchased after hard shopping against the X3 m40i, GLC43, SQ5 and Jaguar, almost 3 years in zero regrets. That being said I HATE the move to panoramic screens in the GV80's and other models and brands. They are distracting to the driver, puts both the instrument cluster and infotainment screen at a compromised height with no glare protection, a step backwards in ergo design to me. Single screens (Tesla) are even worse, I don't want to go through menus to get to common functions, one big fingerprint trap. Genesis is very progressive, turn signal cameras are brilliant, but panoramic do all screens are a bad move in the industry. The rest of the GV80 is beautiful.

@@bmw1244 Genesis received tons of negative feedback about the 2 spoke steering wheels, people hated them and Genesis slowly is phasing them out. I hope the same thing happens with these stupid panoramic screens. I was planning on trading my 2022 GV70 in 2026 for the latest GV70, not now, will only shop non-panoramic screen models only, maybe a Macan. Love Genesis, hate panoramic screens.

Good review. It’s too bad the GV80 doesn’t quite drive like a bigger GV70, because that car is insanely good. Having said that, your rant against the electrification and people rushing to get to it is frankly inaccurate. Yes, they have fallen flat because of it for now, but that’s because of Tesla tanking the market by dropping their prices to an insanely low point. I don’t think anyone could have predicted that at the time. Sales were actually finally starting to pick up in the EV world when this happened. As someone who drove an Audi e-tron after the Genesis GV70, I can tell you at least in the DC metro area, it was never a problem for me charging wise or in any other way. It was a dreamily luxurious vehicle with every feature you could think of and a ride that doesn’t get much better. Unfortunately I was in an accident and the insurance company decided to make it a total loss. So now I’m driving the new Tesla Model 3. That is for its price an incredible vehicle to drive too. If I could afford it, I would have gotten the electrified GV70 in a heartbeat.
@frederickhaines30807 ай бұрын
Tesla is tanking the market in order to compete in China, where state sponsored (but not necessarily state controlled) electric cars are waaayyy cheaper, and they refresh models annually. Ultimately, for now, electrification favors the Chinese, who have never been good at ICE.

That cousin in the other episode in the hybrid form had a similar color interior for the hybrid. If I’m not mistaken, these are built as a dual purpose platform so they can be either a BEV or an ICE. Not an insider but just seen battery packs underneath GV70s for instance and I know that some of the products have been electrified with a battery shoehorn into a sedan. I’m just not quite sure about the 80. It is impressive that it weighs more than my IONIQ 5 AWD, has similar cargo space by a bag or so but the cabin is not as spacious. If you’re after that driving experience, can you get it by weighing more? Is this the Achilles heel we were told it was and if so why not for ICE. Shouldn’t this be around 4200 pounds without batteries? At least it’s not a Lyric or ZDX. 🤔 17:08

I personally dislike the changes. The prior interior looked MUCH BETTER and more distinctive. The continuous screen trend is tiring and takes away much of the charm of the design. It's like all manufacturers are adopting the same trend for no reason but to, perhaps, save costs for having a single unit? And the exterior, front end looks better, but the rest... wheels are awful and removing the exhaust tips from the rear was a mistake, definitely a step backwards.

Agree on the screen. He says "because that's what the kids want these days" but, there are no kids buying this car. I really doubt anyone's asking for it. They just make the car look cheap, and wait till it dies and you can't see your speed or anything else, while you wait 6 weeks for the new one to arrive at the service center.

Way nicer than the Mercedes GLE and Audi Q5. Every surface you touch was just far better quality in the Genesis, and it also drove more nicely. But don’t take it from me. Go check out Doug De Muro’s review of the GV70 3.5TT when it came out. He said “nothing even comes close to this under $100k, and this is at the level of the Porsche Macan.”

This person intentionally lies or knows nothing. When looking at the sales growth rate and operating profit of each brand over the past decade, no brand can beat the Hyundai Kia Genesis brand. And looking at the number of cars won by developed countries in each continent this year over the past five years, no brand can beat the Hyundai Kia Genesis. Having driven more than 800 Mercedes-Benz, BMW, BMW, Audi, Genesis, Toyota, and Hyundai Kia cars over the past year, the Genesis is more comfortable and better than the Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz as long as it does not exceed 150 kilometers per hour.
@t13287 ай бұрын
@@daniel0223-i8s well said. I haven’t driven anywhere near the number of cars you have, but I am a car nut, former BMW fan boy (in the days when hydraulic power steering was the norm), and Audi fan too (drove a TT, an Allroad, and most recently an e-tron). The Hyundai Motor Group hired the best of the best from Germany from the former head of BMW’s M division, to several exterior and interior designers from the VW/Audi group, and ever since they did that, they’ve had an incredibly remarkable turnaround. Their cars are now frequently the best in their segment. Our other car is a ‘22 Kia Sorento PHEV, and it is phenomenal. Not only are we averaging 86mpg due to mostly short local drives, but it’s luxurious, high quality and drives really nicely, and all cheaper than its Toyota, Honda etc competitors. I also drove a Kia Stinger 3.3 TT for 3.5 years, and it was the most fun car I’ve had since the E39 5-series BMW. You could tell that the folks who designed it, built the engine, steering, suspension, etc, were all former BMW folks because it felt like the BMWs did when they were the “ultimate driving machines.”
