so many times i have been in almost empty parking lots by myself coming out of night appointments, or coming from a friends apartment or a store. to think at any point you can be taken from this world by someone who just looks at you and decides in 5 seconds “yup this is the one” .. is truly frightening.
@nozoto

Parking lots are among the favorite hunting grounds of killers. They only need a basic abduction kit to carry on their agenda (handcuffs, some gag and binoculars to observe the back and forth from afar before leaping into action). Somebody extra familiar with the place even know the dead angles where no camera will film them, if there are any. If more parking lots had dedicated patrolling security agents telling asswipes on stakeout to f*** off, I am certain a dramatic proportion of kidnaping would be thwarted. Unfortunately, making money out of peons like us is more important than crime prevention 😒

I see what you're saying but I refuse to live my life in fear. I conceal and carry. I'm aware of my surroundings. I've done all the things that you have said not to do and I'm still here. I'm not saying I did all of these things voluntarily some were out of necessity but none the less if you're aware of your surroundings there's other steps you can take to ensure your safety rather than power in a corner out of fear or insist on having man escort you because you're incapable of defending yourself. Aware of your surroundings beware of the situation surrounding you. These are simple steps to ensure your safety without having to live in fear. Also Angie Hammond I believe she was killed by the boyfriend. It makes a logical sense. Not to mention he must know nothing about cars because the BS story he gave about his car's transmission is just that, a BS story. I still to this day and shocked that he has not been brought to Justice. I do not believe for one second she was alone in a parking lot at night on a payphone.

@Crazy Sarah in the trailerhood You made VERY GREAT points. I'm with you. You shouldn't live your life in fear, but you gotta be cautious sometimes. Carrying and concealing is being smart. You're not just a "helpless sitting duck" I was actually going to write that in, but my comment is already lengthy as is. You opened my eyes to the Angela Hammond case. You could be right. Her pregnancy may have been a motive for him. It's happened before. Plus if a man really loves his woman, he has a car, he's going to pick her up. You'd think he would much rather see her, than to have her talking on a payphone, at night while he's comfortably laying on his couch. Especially if he lives close by.

I grew up around there and remember this case very well. It was all people talked about for a long while. We shopped at that Venture store all the time. Festus/Crystal City was the main shopping area for many small towns. After this happened the parking lot felt so eerie at night. I think of Diana every time I pass by it as I still have folks in the area.

I live very close as well. Right down 67. Prior to living out here I worked for 2 years in twin City plaza. (next to the Pizza Hut, before it moved.) I'm sure you've heard the same local gossip that I have, I agree with you about Rush. Of all the theories that have been put out there and all the suspects that have had fingers pointed at them he definitely is the one that makes the most logical since. So you lived out here when it happened right? Cuz I transferred into Jeffco in the early 2000s from SoCo and have lived in Festus for about a decade now. But I'm curious as to what 61/67 was like right they're in front of twin City plaza back then. My cousins lived out this way so I know as a kid I traveled it but I just can't remember. I'm sure they expanded you know added lanes and what not but every week when I get off work on Saturday I drive by there and it's usually about 11 at night and its eerily quiet sometimes and there's not a lot of traffic. So of course I'm thinking okay it was like deserted the night she was abducted but then I remember that 55 wasn't built all the waysdown to bloomsdale then, was it? I feel like 61/67 there was the main highway if you were going south. Which if that's the case then there would have been at least some traffic that night, right? Or maybe not. I don't know I just feel like the development of interstate 55 and people's accessibility to his somehow plays into this case. I mean you're probably doesn't but it's a hunch I can't let go of. So since you were in the area at that time and currently you know what it was like then and now. like what's your take on all of that what was the traffic like? And also I know a few years later there was that scandal, for lack of better words, with the police chief of Festus in the deputy and shooting and killing and good ol boy cops so on so forth when she went missing did that good old boy police mentality that existed during the scandal was that like existing then? Sorry about all the questions. But this is one of the three local cases that I think about so often. the other two, there's some evidence with one and the other one though it wasn't legally solved we all know Bryan Westfall killed Amanda. But this one left nothing nothing not even enough to substantiate the most logical of theories. I think about it often and I have so many questions that I'm sure everyone else has and unfortunately will probably never be answered

Right down the sidewalk from this store was another store called peables my friend and I were 12 and 13 (I’m 41 now) and getting ready to walk into the store when a man tried to get us to leave with him. He was very persistent that we show him how to get to Kmart so he could return something (as he showed us a box that was obviously empty) we were terrified and stood there frozen. We kept telling him the store is right down the sidewalk and he kept telling us he needed us to show him,until I finally stopped being scared and yelled at him we’re not going anywhere with you! There are adults all around us but you keep asking us kids!? He panicked and left in a hurry. THEN the adults that were watching from inside the store came out and asked if we were ok. I always wondered if he had something to do with her disappearing. It scared us so much because we had always been told about Dianne and how she’s never been found. I wish that we would have reported it to the police but we were kids and didn’t even think about doing that. I’m pretty sure we never told her or my parents because we were scared they wouldn’t let us walk to the stores from her house anymore.

(Back in the day before the area built-up twin City plaza was the main retail shop mini mall and it is located in Crystal City but right there on the line of Festus.) They originally had been one city, Tanglefoot. At some point they separated and became their own entities. Its kinda Crazy, like our Walmart, half is in Crystal City and half is in Festus. If someone shopping list from there it depends on which exit they go out of as to which Police department is going to respond. Lol
