Just like we cannot pronounce a lot of foreign names. It is human nature.

moul-ri (lree) you have to sound it out and give them examples that they use in their own language. For example: Mao (moul) and ri (lee sounds like li in the word link, the flick of the tounge is used to pronounce ri)

+JediMaster Orion I feel like that would help a lot of bilingual people to say Maori properly. Most people (and Maori's) bless their souls just cant wrap their tongues around a simple sounding vowel. Ah not Aye Eh not Ee Ee not Eye Oor not Oh Eew not You people cant pronounce a simple place name correctly its funny.

Haha so true! I'm pakeha and grew up with a Maori step-dad/family and I was laughing so hard - it was like watching my childhood. Whenever I see Maori things I realise why I never fully feel pakeha - to much Maori spirit in me!!

Cuzzzies, Whanau-Ora, Sooo funny, the tea towels one got me, I redesign tee-towels 25 years ago, & there still little, thin cloths that are expensive & they get wet after wiping just the plates & you got pots, pans, buckets & everything to go. We need a Maori-tee-towel. extra large, extra thick, extra absorbent.

While I'm not Maori the first one is so true I stayed at a marae for a night and it was a nightmare if only I had my own room but I was served and looked after very well. Just thought of wouldn't it be cool if there was a resort like a marae?
